Kia unveiled two electric-vehicle concepts at the 2024 SEMA Show: the EV9 ADVNTR, an adventure-oriented three-row SUV, and the PV5 WKNDR, a modular van concept designed around gear storage and camping. The WKNDR’s standout ideas include an adaptable interior, a sheltered storage area that can double as a mobile pantry, solar panels, hydro-turbine wheels and an onboard compressor. These are concept features, not confirmed equipment for a production PV5.
What Kia unveiled at SEMA
Kia America introduced the EV9 ADVNTR and PV5 WKNDR on November 5, 2024, at the opening of the Specialty Equipment Market Association (SEMA) Show in Las Vegas. Kia says its Kia Design Center America in Irvine developed both as lifestyle concepts focused on capability, utility and outdoor recreation.

Kia did not provide comparable prices, performance specifications or production status for the two concepts in its SEMA announcement.
What makes the PV5 WKNDR modular
Kia describes the WKNDR’s interior as flexible and adaptable, intended to be customized for different uses and space needs. The specific feature Kia calls “Gear Head” is a sheltered off-board storage area for equipment when the van is parked. Kia says it can also serve as a mobile pantry.

The concept also includes an onboard compressor. Kia gives adjusting tire pressure on a trail and inflating a mattress at camp as example uses. The release does not identify a retail compressor or establish that the concept’s equipment is compatible with a production PV5.
Solar panels and hydro-turbine wheels: what Kia says
Kia describes solar panels and hydro-turbine wheels as ways the WKNDR is intended to recharge its batteries in some uses. The announcement gives no charging rates, range added or test results, so the contribution of either feature cannot be quantified from Kia’s published information.

How the WKNDR relates to the production-oriented PV5
The WKNDR is a show concept associated with Kia’s broader PBV, or Platform Beyond Vehicle, program. Kia introduced that business at CES 2024, previewing the modular Concept PV5 as its initial PBV. Its CES announcement discussed planned configurations including Basic, Van, High Roof and Chassis Cab, as well as future PV7 and PV1 models. Those were plans described at CES 2024, not confirmation of a current lineup. Kia’s PBV announcement also framed modularity as a way to provide flexibility and customization.
On February 20, 2025, Kia revealed the exterior designs of PV5 Passenger and Cargo models ahead of its EV Day, calling the PV5 its first dedicated PBV. That announcement marks a production-oriented step for the PV5 program, but it does not say that the WKNDR’s camping equipment or custom configuration will be offered on a production vehicle. Kia’s global PBV overview describes the PV5 as using E-GMP.S, a platform Hyundai Motor Group developed exclusively for PBVs. Kia says its skateboard-style base and Flexible Body System use modular front, center and rear sections to support different body forms. The company lists potential variants such as Light Camper, Prime, Open Bed and Refrigerated Box Truck. That platform approach is not evidence that the WKNDR itself—or its camping features—is a production order option.

Kia’s SEMA announcement does not provide the WKNDR’s range, charging time, motor output, dimensions or tested energy contribution from its solar panels and hydro-turbine wheels. It also does not establish a price, a production date or a production configuration for either concept. Those figures should not be inferred from other PV5 models or estimates.
