But the headline-grabbing total hides a mixed model-by-model picture: EV6 sales fell sharply, EV9 was down for September but nearly even year to date, and the Soul’s reported sales were far lower than a year earlier. The figures are U.S. sales, not global Kia sales, and they do not explain why any model’s results changed.
Are Kia sales up in the U.S.?
Yes. Kia America reported 77,009 U.S. vehicle sales for September 2026, an 18% increase from September 2025. Through September, the company reported 667,386 sales, compared with 636,148 in the same period of 2025. Kia said September and the third quarter set company records. The release was published October 1, 2026. Kia America’s September sales release provides the U.S. model table.
A strong overall result does not mean every Kia model gained. These figures compare September with September and year-to-date through September with the same nine months a year earlier:

“Every Kia except two” is not an accurate summary of this table. The EV6 and EV9 were down in September, while the Soul also recorded no September sales against 4,069 a year earlier. Year to date, EV6 was substantially lower, EV9 was almost unchanged, and Soul was far lower. Many other listed models were higher.

Which Kia SUVs are selling poorly?
EV6: the clearest sustained decline in the comparison
The EV6 had 835 U.S. sales in September 2026, down from 2,116 in September 2025. Its year-to-date total was 6,264, compared with 11,077 through September 2025—about 43% lower. That makes it the clearest substantial year-to-date decline among the models highlighted by the data.
EV9: a weak September, but nearly level year to date
EV9 sales fell to 1,955 in September from 3,094 a year earlier, a roughly 37% decrease for the month. Its year-to-date total, however, was 12,429 versus 12,448, a difference of just 19 vehicles. A single soft month should not be presented as proof of a continuing year-to-date slide.

Soul: a strikingly low comparison without an established explanation
Kia America’s table reported zero Soul sales in September 2026, against 4,069 in September 2025. The year-to-date comparison was 3,480 versus 40,408. Those numbers establish a dramatic drop in reported sales, but the release does not explain the cause. Zero reported September sales by itself does not establish that consumers rejected the model or reveal its availability.
Why are EV6 sales down?
Kia America’s release reports sales results; it does not identify a cause for the EV6 decline. The figures alone cannot show whether the change reflects demand, inventory, production, pricing, model availability, or another factor. Treating any one of those as the explanation would go beyond what the sales table establishes.

Kia America vice president of sales operations Eric Watson described the company’s broader results as evidence of “the strength of its brand, product portfolio and retail network.” That is the company’s characterization of its record month and quarter, not an explanation for an individual model’s sales change.

Separately, Kia Corporation reported 281,984 global sales in September 2026, up 5.1% year over year, and named Sportage, Seltos, and Sorento among its leading sellers.
