Check your vehicle identification number (VIN) and contact a Jeep dealer for its current recall and repair status.
Which Jeep 4xe vehicles are included?
The recall applies to certain plug-in hybrid electric vehicles, not every Jeep Wrangler or Grand Cherokee from these model years. The affected model-year ranges are:
- 2020–2025 Jeep Wrangler PHEV/4xe
- 2022–2026 Jeep Grand Cherokee PHEV/4xe
NHTSA’s December 18, 2025 amended filing lists 228,221 Wranglers and 91,847 Grand Cherokees, for 320,068 potentially involved vehicles. NHTSA’s original November 2025 consumer alert counted 320,065. These are vehicle population estimates, not the number of vehicles confirmed to have defective batteries. Chrysler estimated that 5% of the potentially involved vehicles had the defect.
Model year alone cannot tell you whether your Jeep is included. Check the VIN in NHTSA’s recall lookup or ask a Jeep dealer to check the vehicle’s record.

What is the battery fire risk?
The recall concerns possible separator damage in cells inside the high-voltage battery pack. In rare circumstances, that damage combined with other complex cell interactions may cause a fire. NHTSA warned that a fire could occur while the vehicle is parked or being driven; the amended filing says the defect may not produce a warning.
The December 18, 2025 filing says Chrysler was aware of 19 battery-pack fires as of October 13, 2025, and one potentially related injury. Those reported incidents should not be read as a count of confirmed fires in vehicles covered by the remedy.

What should I do while waiting for the repair?
If your vehicle has not been remedied under this campaign, follow NHTSA’s interim instructions: park outside and away from buildings and other vehicles, and do not charge it until the remedy has been performed. NHTSA says fire risk is higher when the battery is charged than when it is depleted. Its November 4, 2025 consumer alert states: “Owners should park their vehicles outside and away from structures and other vehicles until their vehicle has been remedied.”
Check the VIN and contact a Jeep dealer about your vehicle’s status and next steps. NHTSA advises owners to follow manufacturer interim safety guidance and contact a dealership. Do not treat an earlier repair or the absence of a warning message as confirmation that this newer campaign is complete.

How do I check a Jeep 4xe recall by VIN?
- Find the 17-character VIN, usually visible through the windshield on the driver’s side or on the vehicle’s registration and insurance documents.
- Enter it in NHTSA’s free recall lookup. NHTSA also supports a search by license plate.
- Review the results for campaign 25V-741 or manufacturer campaign 68C, then contact a Jeep dealer to confirm whether the remedy is available and whether the vehicle has been repaired.
NHTSA also offers the free SaferCar app, which can notify users about recalls. A lookup result is not a substitute for confirming repair status with the dealer, especially if the vehicle has already visited a shop or its records may not be current.
Is the Grand Cherokee 4xe recall fixed?
The December 18, 2025 amended filing describes a remedy consisting of a software flash, followed by high-voltage battery replacement if needed. It also specifies an unlimited-years, unlimited-mileage warranty extension for impacted customers experiencing defect-related messaging. The filing records final owner letters as scheduled for mailing during December 2025.

Those details describe the campaign plan in that filing; they do not establish whether a repair is available now or whether a particular Jeep has been repaired. Check the VIN and ask a dealer for the current status. NHTSA says recall repairs are free.

It may. NHTSA says vehicles previously repaired under campaign 24V-720 may be included again in 25V-741 because the earlier software remedy failed to detect some abnormalities. If your 4xe received the earlier repair, check its VIN for the newer campaign rather than assuming the first repair cleared it.

Is the separate 2026 Jeep engine recall the same issue?
No. NHTSA campaign 25V766, manufacturer campaign 78C, is a separate recall concerning certain 2023–2025 Wrangler and Grand Cherokee plug-in hybrids. A March 24, 2026 filing describes possible sand contamination during engine casting, which could lead to engine failure, fire, or unexpected loss of propulsion. That engine issue is distinct from 25V-741’s high-voltage battery-cell concern.
