Jaguar unveiled Type 00 in December 2024 as a non-production design vision; it revealed Type 01 in New York on 6 October 2026. The official record confirms a camouflaged prototype appeared at Goodwood, but does not identify the exact photographs or establish their date, location, or testing context.
What car is Jaguar testing?
It is the Jaguar Type 01, a four-door electric GT that Jaguar unveiled as its next-generation production car. The earlier Type 00 was a concept, not the production model. Jaguar’s official materials describe Type 01 as the first production Jaguar built on its dedicated Jaguar Electric Architecture (JEA).
Jaguar announced the Type 01 name on 13 May 2026 and said prototypes would appear in Monaco in camouflage. On 2 July, the company announced that a Type 01 prototype would make its UK dynamic debut at the Goodwood Festival of Speed. Jaguar unveiled the production car in New York on 6 October. Jaguar’s launch announcement identifies the car as Type 01, rather than Type 00.
Why the Type 00 name is misleading
Jaguar revealed Type 00 at Miami Art Week on 2 December 2024 as a “design vision concept.” The company explicitly states, “Type 00 is a non-production vehicle.” It previewed design ideas for a future electric four-door GT; it was not the finished production car.

The concept had a long hood, sweeping roofline, fastback silhouette, 23-inch wheels, boat-tail rear and distinctive modernist surfacing. Those details describe the concept, not a guarantee that each feature appears unchanged on Type 01. Jaguar says the Type 01 name refers to predecessors and a new generation: “0” represents zero tailpipe emissions, while “1” marks the first car of a new chapter.
What the camouflage appearances establish
Jaguar’s 2 July announcement described the Goodwood car as a Type 01 prototype in its lightest camouflage yet, giving a clearer indication of the design direction. The company also said the prototype would drive the Festival of Speed hillclimb. Jaguar’s Managing Director Rawdon Glover called the name a brand reset and described the “1” as “our first car for a new chapter, a ‘one of a kind!’”

That confirms a public prototype appearance, but it does not verify which particular online images the phrase “spy shots” refers to. Jaguar’s official statements do not tie a specific photo set to a photographer, date, location, or test session. Nor does camouflage establish that any hidden styling detail is final. The production reveal is the stronger reference for identifying the car’s confirmed design.

Jaguar says real-world range can vary with driving style, conditions, load, wheel fitment, accessories, route and battery condition. The range figures are not final certified results. The charging statement is a best-case manufacturer claim; it should not be read as a guarantee of the same charge rate or added distance in every session.

Jaguar expects orders to open in early 2027 and anticipates first customer deliveries in the second half of 2027. JLR says production is due to begin in 2027 at Solihull. These are announced plans, not completed milestones.

JLR says electric drive units and battery packs are planned for Wolverhampton, with pressed body panels planned for Halewood, Merseyside. Jaguar describes Type 01 as designed, developed and built in the UK. The company has not established market-specific pricing or final certified specifications in the launch information cited here.

How to read Type 00 and Type 01 images
- Check the name first: Type 00 denotes the non-production concept; Type 01 is the production-bound electric GT.
- Compare broad design cues cautiously: silhouette, proportions, lighting, surfacing and practical details can be compared, but concept styling alone does not prove a production component carried over.
- Separate confirmed information from inference: Jaguar’s production reveal and specifications confirm Type 01’s identity and announced features. Camouflage photos can obscure final details, and the official prototype announcements do not authenticate a particular image set.
