Jaguar revealed its new electric car, the Type 01, in New York on 6 October 2026. The four-door luxury electric GT is the first production car of Jaguar’s new generation, with orders planned to open in early 2027 from a manufacturer-announced starting price of £130,000.
When was Jaguar’s new electric car revealed?
The Type 01 world premiere took place in New York at 20:00 EDT on 6 October 2026. That was 01:00 BST on 7 October in the UK, so the announced reveal date differed depending on the time zone. Jaguar confirmed the premiere after the event.
What is the Jaguar Type 01?
Type 01 is a four-door luxury electric grand tourer and, in Jaguar’s description, the first production car of its new generation and the first production Jaguar built on its bespoke Jaguar Electric Architecture (JEA). Jaguar says “Type” refers to the marque’s predecessors, “0” signifies zero tailpipe emissions and “1” marks the first model in the new generation.
Jaguar Managing Director Rawdon Glover called it “the foundation of this British brand” and described it as a luxury grand tourer for a new era. That is the company’s positioning; the announcement does not establish how the car performs in independent road testing.

Price, orders and planned production
JLR says orders are due to open in early 2027, with a starting price of £130,000. This is the manufacturer-announced starting price, not a confirmed local-market price or an on-road total. JLR plans to begin production in 2027 at its Solihull operations.
JLR says the electric drive units and battery packs will be made in Wolverhampton, while pressed body panels are planned for Halewood, Merseyside. These are the company’s stated manufacturing plans. JLR’s announcement gives the price, ordering and production details.

Jaguar says real-world range will vary with conditions. Charging time also depends on factors including battery condition and the charger, so the 13-minute claim should not be read as a guaranteed result for every session. JLR’s specification release describes the battery, power and range estimates; its charging announcement sets out the rapid-charging claim and its qualifications.

Design and cabin details
Jaguar describes the cabin as four individual spaces divided by a full-length central spine, with a 24-inch OLED driver display. It also reports a drag coefficient of 0.23 and says the project has generated more than 360 patent applications; that figure is applications, not granted patents. These are manufacturer claims about the car’s design and development, not independent assessments. Jaguar’s Type 01 overview covers its design claims. The published figures do not amount to independent confirmation of range, charging speed, acceleration or real-world efficiency. Jaguar labels its range figure an estimate subject to homologation, and no independent road test or like-for-like comparison with rival luxury EVs is established in the launch information. In particular, a future comparison should use the same market and range-test cycle rather than treating EPA and WLTP figures as interchangeable.
