Italdesign’s Quintessenza is a four-seat electric concept that blends GT styling with pickup and sport activity vehicle utility. It made its world debut at Auto China 2024 in Beijing; the 777-hp figure is a reported concept claim, not a tested output or specification for a retail vehicle.
What is the Italdesign Quintessenza?
Quintessenza is an Italdesign showcar conceived as a multi-role performance pickup and sport activity vehicle. The company presented it as a design and engineering concept, not as a production pickup announced for sale. Its world debut took place at Auto China 2024, held April 25–May 4 at the New China International Exhibition Center in Beijing. Italdesign’s event announcement described the vehicle’s planned debut and positioning.
The name refers to a fusion of elements. In Italdesign’s February 2024 Auto China preview, Head of Design Joaquin Garcia said: “Quintessenza means to be precisely the fusion of all five elements, and it is sure to captivate the media and everyone attending the event.” The preview introduced the showcar ahead of the event.
How much power does the concept claim?
Italdesign’s April 2024 technical table gives estimated output of 580 kW. That converts to approximately 778 mechanical horsepower, while Car and Driver reported 777 hp when covering the concept at CES 2025. The sources do not explain the small difference, so the figures should be treated as closely aligned concept claims rather than evidence of a measured, finalized output. Italdesign’s table labels its technical figures as estimates; Car and Driver’s 2025 report also identifies Quintessenza as a concept.
The company describes an all-wheel-drive layout with one front electric drive unit and two rear in-wheel motors. Italdesign’s 2025 sustainability report says the in-wheel architecture was developed with Elaphe. That is the company’s description of the concept’s powertrain collaboration, not independent verification of vehicle performance. Italdesign’s 2025 sustainability report also notes the use of natural-fiber laminates for the fenders.
What are the stated battery, range and performance figures?
The figures below come from Italdesign’s 2024 concept specification table and are explicitly estimates. They have not been established as independently tested results or production-vehicle specifications. The official technical release lists:

Car and Driver separately reported a claimed 0–60 mph time of under three seconds. That is a different measure from Italdesign’s 0–100 km/h estimate, and neither figure is an independent test result. Car and Driver’s report identifies the output and acceleration claims in its CES 2025 coverage.
How does its pickup design work?
Rather than a conventional pickup layout alone, Quintessenza combines a 2+2 passenger cabin with configurable rear seating and cargo-oriented features. Italdesign’s project description says the rear seats rotate 180 degrees, allowing an alternate position for panoramic views or stargazing. The rear also has an electric tailgate, and the project includes a smartphone-based interface. The Quintessenza project page describes the seating and interface concept.

The press material also shows a removable hard roof and mentions a soft-top alternative, along with adjustable ground clearance. These are proposed concept features; their appearance in the showcar materials does not establish that the mechanisms were validated for production. Italdesign’s release outlines those design elements.

The available descriptions identify Quintessenza as a showcar and concept intended to demonstrate Italdesign’s design and engineering capabilities. Car and Driver characterized it as a concept for prospective clients, rather than a retail vehicle announcement. No production approval, consumer price, or sales availability is established in the cited material. Nor do the cited sources state a charging rate, towing capacity, or payload rating, so those figures should not be inferred from its pickup-inspired design.

In practical terms, Quintessenza is best understood as a design study: its headline power, range, and acceleration figures communicate the intended ambition of the concept, while its unusual cabin and body features show how Italdesign imagines combining GT character with pickup/SAV versatility.
