Islamabad’s motorcycle M-Tag rollout was announced for February 20, 2026, and a later report said the installation deadline was extended to March 5. Those dates have passed. Reports confirm the bike phase was introduced, but the available official and news sources do not establish the current enforcement position, fee, or service-center arrangements. Riders preparing to register should take the motorcycle’s registration card or book and the owner’s CNIC, and verify current instructions with official channels before traveling.
Is an M-Tag mandatory for bikes in Islamabad?
Islamabad expanded its M-Tag program to motorcycles in a second phase. HUM English reported that registration for motorcycles would begin at 10 a.m. on February 20, 2026, and described the requirement as applying generally to motorcycle types. HUM English reported the rollout announcement on February 18, 2026.
On February 28, Dawn, carrying an APP report, said the motorcycle installation deadline had been extended to March 5, 2026, as a facilitation measure. This is a historical deadline, not confirmation of the rule or enforcement process in October 2026. The sources available do not establish whether bike-specific penalties are currently being applied, so check with Islamabad’s official administration or police channels for the latest position before riding on the assumption that an untagged bike will be allowed. Dawn’s February 28 report.
What documents should you take?
APP reported that applicants need the motorcycle’s registration card or book and the vehicle owner’s computerized national identity card (CNIC). Officials said the tag is issued after verification at designated registration points. Bring the original documents for inspection; the report does not establish whether copies, additional paperwork, or a particular applicant procedure are required today. How Islamabad says the system works
A written answer by the Minister of Interior in the National Assembly says ICT Administration executes the system in collaboration with FWO under the Ministry of Interior’s direction. It says FWO issues tags for two- and four-wheel vehicles, operates RFID readers at e-Naka points, and has integrated tags with Safe City cameras and systems. The stated objective is to enroll vehicles in Islamabad’s Safe City security system; the answer says a motorcycle with an E-Tag can be tracked by law-enforcement agencies through Police/Safe City systems.

That is the government’s description of the system’s purpose and infrastructure. It is not independent evidence that motorcycle tagging has reduced crime, improved road safety, or shortened travel times. The National Assembly answer and annex.

Neither set of figures measures the program’s effect on crime or traffic. Islamabad Capital Territory Police later reported that 44,078 vehicles, motorcyclists, freight vehicles, and public transport vehicles were penalized for traffic-law violations during August 2026; that police update does not say those penalties were for lacking an M-Tag.
