Yes—Toyota vice president Yuki Nakajima said the company was making a Celica, according to an Autocar report from Rally Japan on 25 November 2024. That is meaningful evidence of development intent, but it is not a launch announcement: the cited report and Toyota materials do not establish when the car will be revealed or sold, what it will be called in production, or what it will be like.
What Toyota has said about a new Celica
At Rally Japan, Toyota vice president Yuki Nakajima was quoted by Autocar saying: “We’re making the Celica!” The report, published on 25 November 2024, is the clearest evidence in the cited material that Toyota is working on a successor.
The remark supports the conclusion that the project is more than speculation. It does not explain how advanced the engineering is, however. The report provides no development milestone, prototype details, or production timetable that would make “pretty far in development” a measurable status. It should not be read as proof that the car is nearly ready for showrooms.
When could the next Celica come out?
No reveal date, production start, or on-sale date is established by the cited sources. Nakajima’s statement confirms intent to make the car, not when customers will be able to see or buy it. Toyota has not provided a schedule in the cited material, so a specific arrival year would be speculation.

What is known about the future car’s specifications?
The cited sources do not confirm the next Celica’s final production name or configuration. They also do not establish its engine, whether it will be hybrid or fully electric, transmission, drivetrain, power output, dimensions, price, or sales markets. Toyota’s Integrated Report 2024 describes a company-wide multi-pathway approach to vehicle development across different powertrains and silhouettes. That corporate strategy is context, not evidence for a particular Celica specification.
Why older Celica specifications do not answer the question
Toyota UK’s 1999 Celica launch pack documents the seventh-generation model. Its specifications describe that historical car, not the one Toyota is now reported to be developing. Until Toyota releases details for the new project, carrying over the old Celica’s layout or equipment would be an unsupported assumption.
