It pairs a 644cc single-cylinder engine with electric start, long-travel suspension and 21-inch front/17-inch rear wheels. Its compromises are just as concrete: a 34.8-inch standard seat, 366-pound curb weight, a 3.4-gallon tank (3.2 gallons in California), a carburetor and five-speed transmission. Suzuki’s US base MSRP for the 2025 model was $7,199 before fees; that is not a current out-the-door quote.
Who should consider the DR650S?
The DR650S is aimed at riders who want one motorcycle for ordinary road use and some trail riding, rather than a highly specialized off-road bike. Suzuki lists street lighting, passenger grab handles, dual-sport tires, generous suspension travel and ground clearance, and says the engine is tuned for low-to-mid-rpm performance. Those specifications support the bike’s dual-purpose positioning, but they do not establish how comfortable it will be on a particular highway commute or how capable it will feel on a particular trail.
It may fit a buyer who prefers a conventional single-cylinder package and does not require fuel injection, more than five gears or a large electronics suite. Riders who prioritize those features should compare alternatives directly. The DR650S’s published specifications alone cannot determine which motorcycle will suit an individual rider or route.

How do the seat height and weight affect fit?
The 34.8-inch seat is tall enough that riders should assess it in person rather than assume they can comfortably plant both feet at a stop. Suzuki’s genuine accessory lowering kit reduces the seat height by 40 mm (1.6 in.), to about 33.2 in. (845 mm), and includes a shorter side stand. Suzuki says a dealer performs the adjustment; see its lowering-kit information. Lowering changes the fit, but it does not make the motorcycle small or light.
At 366 pounds curb weight, the bike’s mass is also worth evaluating at low speeds and when maneuvering it off the motorcycle. If possible, sit on a stock bike and arrange a supervised test ride before deciding. A seat-height figure by itself cannot tell you how the motorcycle will feel with your proportions, boots and riding experience.

What does the bike’s design mean for everyday use?
Engine and transmission
The 644cc engine is a four-stroke, SOHC single with a Mikuni BST40 carburetor, electric start and a five-speed transmission. The carburetor and five-speed layout are defining choices to weigh against a competing model’s fuel injection or additional gears. The available product information does not establish comparative maintenance costs, reliability, fuel economy or highway comfort.
Chassis and tires
The DR650S has a steel semi-double-cradle frame, telescopic front fork, link-type rear suspension and single-disc brakes at both ends. Suzuki lists 260 mm (10.2 in.) of travel at each end and 265 mm (10.4 in.) of ground clearance. The 21-inch front and 17-inch rear tube-type wheels are part of its dual-sport configuration; tire choice and riding conditions will matter to how it works on pavement and dirt.

Fuel capacity and range
The listed tank holds 3.4 US gallons, except on the California model, which holds 3.2 gallons. The sources do not provide a measured fuel-economy figure or range test, so those capacities should not be turned into a promised distance between fill-ups.
How much does the 2025 DR650S cost?
Suzuki’s US base MSRP for the 2025 DR650S was $7,199, excluding taxes, title, license, registration, freight, dealer fees and options. In July 2025, Suzuki announced a $7,299 MSRP for the 2026 DR650S. These are manufacturer suggested prices for different model years, not verified dealer offers or current inventory. - A frame guard that allows the rider to both protect the frame of the motorcycle from wear as well as adding more grip to the bike, to hold onto. Outer plastic is durable polycarbonate while the inner plastic is durable yet pliable and offers incredible grip.
As a dated comparison, Dirt Bike Magazine’s 2025 dual-sport guide listed the Honda XR650L at $6,999 and the DR650S at $7,199. That guide is a 2025 snapshot, not a current price check or a full independent test. Suzuki’s July 2025 announcement also listed the 2026 DR-Z4S at $7,999. Before choosing between models, check each bike’s current official specifications and compare the factors that matter to your riding: out-the-door cost, weight, seat height, fuel capacity, fuel system, suspension, electronics and intended pavement-to-trail use. Suzuki’s 2025 brochure states a 12-month limited warranty with unlimited mileage. It says longer coverage with other benefits may be available through Suzuki Extended Protection. Warranty terms, exclusions and eligibility should be confirmed with a participating dealer. Suzuki also lists a cargo rack and skid plate among genuine accessories, in addition to the lowering kit.

What should you check before buying or riding?
- Confirm the model year, California or non-California tank configuration, availability and written out-the-door price with the dealer.
- Check whether the 34.8-inch stock seat works for you; if considering the lowering kit, ask a dealer about the adjustment and included shorter side stand.
- Assess the motorcycle’s 366-pound curb weight and carbureted, five-speed configuration against your experience and intended routes.
- Read the owner’s manual, inspect the motorcycle before riding, wear a helmet, eye protection and protective clothing, and follow local laws and land-use rules.
- Consider a Motorcycle Safety Foundation skills course if you need training; Suzuki’s brochure recommends one.
Suzuki’s safety recommendations appear in its 2025 DR650S brochure.
