What Volkswagen Group’s results do—and don’t—tell buyers
Volkswagen Group reported weaker first-half results in 2026. Its July 24 results release put revenue at €158.1 billion, near the prior-year level, and operating result at €5.9 billion, down 11.6% year over year. Operating return on sales was 3.8%, while vehicle sales totaled 4.0 million, down 8.4% from the first half of 2025. On September 18, Volkswagen updated its full-year outlook to an operating return on sales of up to 1%. The company cited challenging market conditions, particularly in China, restructuring costs and a Porsche AG goodwill impairment; it said around €10 billion in special effects were expected to weigh on operating profit. Its adjusted operating-return estimate was about 4%. Those are company forecasts, not measures of U.S. dealer inventory or an individual buyer’s bargaining power. The company’s July 24 release quoted CFO and COO Arno Antlitz saying, “We must accelerate efforts to structurally lower our cost base and improve our earnings quality.” That statement describes the group’s business priorities; it does not mean dealers have been instructed to cut retail prices.

Volkswagen: a current Tiguan bonus, with conditions
Volkswagen of America lists a $3,000 customer bonus for the purchase or lease of a new, unused 2026 Tiguan, excluding SEL trims, from September 1 through November 2, 2026. It applies through participating dealers. The offer excludes fleet and dealership sale program vehicles, and the bonus cannot be combined with discounted Volkswagen Financial Services special lease or Wells Fargo special APR offers. The official offers page also lists a Costco Auto Program incentive for eligible 2026 Atlas, Atlas Cross Sport, Tiguan and Taos vehicles: $1,250 for qualifying Executive members or $1,000 for qualifying Gold Star or Business members. Membership, registration, delivery timing and dealer participation requirements apply, so this is not an automatic add-on to the Tiguan bonus. Audi: recheck rather than rely on expired examples

Why global delivery declines don’t guarantee a local deal
Volkswagen Group’s July 10 delivery report recorded 95,000 Audi deliveries worldwide in the first half of 2026, versus 101,400 in the same period of 2025, a 6.3% decline. A brand’s global performance can provide context, but it cannot tell you whether a specific dealer has a particular trim in stock, whether it will negotiate, or what another nearby dealer will charge. Treat each vehicle and offer as its own transaction.

How to compare October quotes
- Match the vehicle. Compare the same model year, trim and key equipment. Record the VIN where possible so each quote refers to the same car.
- Request the full price in writing. Ask for the selling price, each eligible incentive, taxes, title and registration charges, dealer fees, and any add-ons. Compare the total out-the-door amount—not just the advertised price or monthly payment.
- Compare financing separately. Ask for the APR, loan term and total amount paid. A customer bonus may not combine with a special APR or lease offer; have the dealer state which option produces the lower total cost for your circumstances.
- For a lease, compare the complete terms. Include the amount due at signing, mileage allowance, lease term, recurring payment and residual value. A lower monthly payment can depend on more cash due up front or different mileage limits.
- Keep the trade-in separate. Get the purchase quote with and without your trade-in, then compare trade offers independently. This makes it easier to see whether a strong trade figure is masking a higher vehicle price.
- Verify eligibility before signing. Confirm the offer’s end date, location, trim, vehicle status, membership or financing requirements, and whether it can be combined with other incentives. For the Tiguan bonus, confirm that the exact vehicle qualifies and that the chosen financing or lease option does not conflict with the terms.
Is October a good time to buy?
For an eligible 2026 Tiguan buyer who can use the $3,000 bonus and finds the vehicle at a competitive out-the-door price, October offers a concrete incentive to consider before the stated November 2 end date. For Audi, verify live local offers because the examples with September 30 expiry dates have passed. For Porsche, request current dealer pricing rather than assuming the brand’s global delivery decline means discounts are available. In every case, the written vehicle price and full financing or lease cost matter more than the automaker’s corporate headlines.
