For a family, those features could reduce the compromises of a compact camper: separate sleeping space for children, cooking options inside or outside, and a bathroom onboard. The trade-off is the reported price and the need to tow a large trailer. The cited 7,500-pound GVWR is a maximum loaded rating, not a statement of the trailer’s actual travel weight or a guarantee that a particular tow vehicle is suitable. Check the trailer’s current specifications and your vehicle’s towing, hitch and payload limits before buying.

What does the Cube Series offer—and what are its limits?
The Cube Series is a truck camper rather than a family travel trailer. Truck Camper Magazine reported the 2024 model at a 1,206-pound base weight, with an 88-inch floor length, 78-inch interior height when raised and 52-inch collapsed height. The low collapsed profile can help with storage, but “garage-friendly” depends on the full loaded height of the camper on your truck, the garage opening and any roof equipment.

Truck Camper Magazine reported a $43,509 base MSRP for the 2024 Cube Series in a 2023 article. It is a dated base figure, not an assurance of today’s price. Options and dealer pricing may change the total; use a Cube Series camper price listing as a starting point and request a current quote from a dealer.
Can your truck carry a Cube Series?
The 1,206-pound figure is the camper’s reported base weight, not necessarily its weight ready for a trip. Water, batteries, options, cargo and passengers all matter when checking a truck’s available payload. Before purchase, compare the camper’s current weight and fit requirements with the payload rating on the specific truck’s certification label, and account for occupants and other cargo. Also verify bed dimensions, tie-down and center-of-gravity requirements with the camper maker and truck manufacturer. A general truck class or an advertised towing capacity alone does not establish compatibility.

Hard-wall versus soft-wall pop-up campers: what changes?
Both products in this comparison use hard walls when raised, but pop-up campers as a category can also use fabric sides. In its manufacturer-authored comparison, Alaskan Campers describes soft-wall pop-ups as lighter and less expensive, while hard-wall designs tend to be heavier and offer more insulation, noise reduction and weather protection. Treat this as a manufacturer’s perspective rather than an independent comparative test.
For the Cube Series specifically, Alaskan’s comparison table lists about 1,200 pounds and calls it four-season ready. Truck Camper Magazine separately reports a 1,206-pound base weight for the 2024 model. The Cube Series general manager, Randall Pozzi, told Truck Camper Magazine: “There is a 19,000 BTU furnace, so there’s a ton of heat for the living area and basement. It’s ready for winter camping.” The magazine also reports a heated basement and thermal-pane windows. These features indicate cold-weather equipment, but they do not establish that every trip or occupant will be comfortable in every winter condition.

Which one is the better value for a family?
“Smartest” is a matter of fit, not a measured award. The Capax makes the stronger case when five-person sleeping capacity, separate bunk space, a bathroom and multiple cooking areas matter more than purchase price, trailer size and towing demands. The Cube Series makes more sense for buyers who want a pickup-mounted camper, can travel with three sleeping places, and prioritize a lower reported base price and compact collapsed height.
- Consider the Capax if your family needs more sleeping capacity and distinct living areas, and your budget and tow vehicle accommodate a large trailer.
- Consider the Cube Series if a compatible pickup is already part of your plan, three sleeping places are sufficient, and you prefer a truck camper over a towable RV.
- Consider a soft-wall pop-up if lower weight and cost take priority over the hard-wall advantages described by Alaskan Campers.
