Inside Tom Cruise’s Top 14 Cars: What the List Says—and What’s Verified

Tom Cruise’s “Top 14 cars” is a ranking published by Gadget Review on April 9, 2025—not a verified inventory of cars he owns today. The list includes a Porsche 928 associated with Risky Business and a Bugatti Veyron, but the evidence for those connections differs: Porsche confirms the film appearance, while ownership claims come from secondary reporting.

What are the 14 cars on Tom Cruise’s list?

These are the vehicles in Gadget Review’s April 9, 2025 ranking, shown in its published order from number 14 to number 1. The ranking is that publication’s selection; it is not an independently verified order of Cruise’s cars or a current ownership register.

  1. Number 14: 1949 Buick Roadmaster
  2. Number 13: Porsche 911 (993 generation)
  3. Number 12: 1970 Chevrolet Chevelle SS
  4. Number 11: Porsche 928
  5. Number 10: 1976 Dodge Colt
  6. Number 9: Ford Excursion
  7. Number 8: 2005 Bugatti Veyron
  8. Number 7: 1988 Nissan 300ZX SCCA race car
  9. Number 6: 1958 Chevrolet Corvette C1
  10. Number 5: Porsche 911 (996 version)
  11. Number 4: Saleen Mustang S281
  12. Number 3: 1983 BMW 3 Series E30
  13. Number 2: 2020 Mercedes-Benz S-Class
  14. Number 1: 2009 Mercedes-Benz CLK 500

Gadget Review’s article supplies the ranking and its vehicle claims. British GQ’s July 3, 2020 account also discusses many of the same cars, but magazine reporting is not a vehicle-by-vehicle ownership record. The list should therefore be read as cars associated with Cruise in published coverage, not proof that all 14 are—or remain—in his garage.

Did Tom Cruise own the Porsche 928 from Risky Business?

The film connection is documented; Cruise’s ownership of a particular screen-used 928 is not established by the cited sources. Porsche’s historical timeline says the 928 “stars alongside Tom Cruise” in the 1983 film. That confirms the car’s role in the movie, not that the actor owned the production vehicle.

The distinction matters because more than one 928 was used during filming. Barrett-Jackson’s catalog for Houston 2021 lot 749 describes a particular 1979 Porsche 928 as a film “Hero car” and says multiple 928s were used in production. The catalog identifies that example as a 4.5-liter V8 coupe with a five-speed manual transmission; it does not establish that it was Cruise’s personal car. Porsche’s timeline reports that a Risky Business car sold at auction for $1.9 million in 2020, but that sale likewise does not make it Cruise’s own vehicle.

For a screen-used car, keep four claims separate: a model appeared in the film; a specific vehicle was used in production; that vehicle was designated a hero car; and an actor owned it. The available sources support the first three for the film’s 928s in varying, specific ways—not the fourth for the auctioned example.

What is notable about the Porsche 928?

Porsche says the 928 debuted in 1977 as a modern successor to the 911 concept, with a front-mounted V8 and a rear-mounted transmission. Production ended in 1995, after around 61,000 cars had been made. Those are model-wide historical details; engine output and other specifications depend on the exact year, version, and market, so a figure should not be applied to every 928.

The auctioned 1979 film car’s 4.5-liter V8 and five-speed manual are specifications for that particular Barrett-Jackson lot, not a complete specification for the entire 928 range. For classic-car comparisons, the year and trim, market specification, originality, condition, transmission, and provenance all matter. A documented movie-used example is a different claim from an ordinary road car of the same model.

Does Tom Cruise still own a Bugatti Veyron?

The sources here do not establish whether Cruise owns a Veyron today. Gadget Review places a 2005 Bugatti Veyron at number 8 in its 2025 list. British GQ reported in 2020 that Cruise bought a Veyron in 2005 and recounted its arrival at the Mission: Impossible III premiere. That is a dated secondary report, not confirmation of current ownership from Cruise, Bugatti, or a vehicle-specific record.

Accordingly, it is fair to say that GQ reported a 2005 purchase and that the car appears on Gadget Review’s list. It is not supported to state that Cruise still owns it.

How much of the list is independently confirmed?

British GQ’s 2020 article covers several cars that also appear in Gadget Review’s list, including the Buick Roadmaster, Corvette, Chevelle, Dodge Colt, Porsche 928, BMW 3 Series, Nissan 300ZX race car, Porsche 993, Ford Excursion, Veyron, and Saleen Mustang. That overlap shows the list draws on prior celebrity-car reporting; it does not independently certify a complete collection or present-day ownership.

The official Tom Cruise website documents his filmography, including Risky Business (1983) and Rain Man (1988). The page is not a car registry. The strongest direct, model-specific confirmation in these sources concerns the 928’s appearance in Risky Business; other collection claims should remain attributed to the publication reporting them.
