Find and replace yours safely.Free scan · under a minuteHyundai’s recall 26V034 covers 568,576 potentially involved Palisade SUVs, but it does not mean every 2020–2025 Palisade is affected. The concern is that certain vehicles may not meet a federal requirement intended to limit third-row occupant movement toward the side windows in a crash. Owners should check their vehicle identification number (VIN) and arrange the free dealer remedy if the vehicle is included.
Which Palisades are covered?
Hyundai Motor America’s May 4, 2026 amended recall filing identifies certain Palisades for U.S. sale produced from April 10, 2019, through June 16, 2025. It lists 568,576 potentially involved vehicles and estimates that 100% of that potentially involved population has the defect. That estimate does not make every Palisade from those production dates eligible: the range describes the population under review, and the VIN lookup determines whether a specific vehicle is included. See the NHTSA campaign 26V034 recall record and amended filing.
The practical answer to “Is my 2020–2025 Palisade recalled?” is to check the VIN, rather than relying on the model year or a dashboard warning. The recall filing says there is no warning that alerts the driver to this condition.
What is the third-row airbag issue?
The filing says the vehicles may not meet Federal Motor Vehicle Safety Standard 226, “Ejection Mitigation,” which sets a limit on how far a test headform can move through a side window opening. Hyundai’s report cites a 100 mm limit and says an NHTSA compliance test on a 2025 Palisade measured displacement above it; Hyundai later found exceedances in certain instances in its own testing. These findings do not mean every recalled vehicle was individually tested or failed in precisely the same way.

The stated safety concern is increased injury risk to third-row occupants in certain crashes, including rollovers. The recall concerns ejection mitigation performance involving the third-row side-window area; it is not a report that every airbag in every Palisade is defective.
What repair will Hyundai perform?
For an affected vehicle, Hyundai’s filed remedy is a dealer-installed protective film on the rear quarter-panel window glass. On affected vehicles equipped with dual sunroofs, the dealer will also remove specified foam padding from the headliner above that window. The amended filing says the repair is available at no cost, whether or not the vehicle remains under Hyundai’s New Vehicle Limited Warranty. It also describes reimbursement under Hyundai’s submitted plan for qualifying owners who already paid out of pocket for the remedy. Confirm eligibility and instructions with Hyundai or a dealer before relying on reimbursement.

- Find the 17-character VIN on the vehicle or its registration and enter it in NHTSA’s recall lookup. NHTSA explains that its lookup provides recall information and advises owners to contact a local dealership for the free repair.
- If the vehicle appears in campaign 26V034, contact a Hyundai dealer or Hyundai directly to confirm the recall status and ask how to schedule the remedy for that VIN.
- Follow any interim safety instructions given by Hyundai or the dealer while waiting, and keep records of repair-related expenses if you believe you may qualify for reimbursement.
NHTSA’s amended filing lists May 29, 2026, as the planned date for phased owner notification. A planned notification date does not establish that every owner has received a letter or that any individual vehicle has been repaired. VIN-specific status and repair completion should be confirmed with Hyundai or a dealer.
