The event results confirm the time; Hyundai called it the fastest EV lap at Tsukuba. This was not a record set by an unmodified, road-going IONIQ 5 N.
What was the IONIQ 5 N TA Spec’s Tsukuba lap time?
The official Attack Tsukuba 2025 result sheet lists Taniguchi and the IONIQ 5 N TA Spec at 57.446 seconds. The event took place on February 15, 2025, at Tsukuba Circuit in Ibaraki Prefecture, with dry track conditions recorded on the results sheet. Attack Tsukuba’s official results provide the event classification and time.
Hyundai described the lap as the fastest EV time at Tsukuba, nearly two seconds quicker than the nearest EV competitor. The Japanese Record Certification Association’s page, checked October 8, 2026, also displayed the IONIQ 5 N TA Spec at 57.446 seconds as its Tsukuba EV lap record. The association cautions that record listings can lag updates, so this is a dated status check rather than a guarantee that the mark remains current. Japanese Record Certification Association
How does it compare with the previous EV benchmark?
In a 2026 Hyundai Motor Group interview, Taniguchi recalled the previous Tsukuba EV record as 59.598 seconds. That comparison is within the EV category at Tsukuba; it does not compare the TA Spec with every car class or with the circuit’s all-time lap record. Hyundai Motor Group’s interview with Taniguchi

Taniguchi said the car had already run in the 58-second range during morning test laps, but he was unsure he could beat the earlier benchmark on the official run. His recollection describes the build-up to the lap, not an independently measured account of the car’s performance.
Was this a production IONIQ 5 N?
No. The TA Spec is a motorsport variant developed to showcase the production IONIQ 5 N, retaining key high-performance power electronics while receiving software tuning and extensive track-focused equipment. Power and track equipment
Hyundai lists the TA Spec’s software-tuned maximum output at 687 PS, with rear-motor output increased by 37 PS compared with the standard IONIQ 5 N. The manufacturer’s listed equipment includes:
- Modified N Active Sound+ speakers rated above 120 dB.
- New shock absorbers and motorsport-grade brakes.
- 18-inch Yokohama ADVAN 005 slick tires.
- A high-downforce aerodynamic package.
- A Recaro Pro Racer SPA Hans seat and Sabelt six-point Hans harness.
- A Pikes Peak-specification roll cage and an EV fire suppression system.
These are Hyundai’s specifications for its motorsport build, not a list of confirmed street-legal upgrades or retail parts. Hyundai has also said it intends to bring a DK Edition N Performance Parts package to market for IONIQ 5 N customers; that announcement does not establish current availability or compatibility with the TA Spec. What did Taniguchi say about the car?
Hyundai’s February 18, 2025 release attributed this assessment to Taniguchi: “The IONIQ 5 N TA Spec stops well and handles excellently. Despite the power, the control is outstanding, with great cornering and smooth, stable corner-exit. The event organizer’s classification confirms the driver, car and 57.446-second result. Hyundai and the Japanese Record Certification Association frame it as an EV-category Tsukuba record, with the association’s listing subject to its update warning. The lap demonstrates what a heavily equipped, software-tuned IONIQ 5 N-based motorsport car achieved; it is not evidence that a production IONIQ 5 N can match the time without those changes.
