The Hyundai Genesis Coupe was a rear-wheel-drive sports coupe sold in North America for model years 2010 through 2016. It began with a turbocharged 2.0-liter four-cylinder or a 3.8-liter V6, received a major refresh for 2013, and became V6-only for 2015 and 2016. Kelley Blue Book’s published benchmark for 2016 models ranged from $10,400 to $12,500 by trim, but those figures were stated as valid only through September 18, 2026—not as live quotes or valuations for a specific car.
How the Genesis Coupe changed from 2010 to 2016
Cars.com groups the U.S. Genesis Coupe run as one generation spanning model years 2010–2016. The important distinction for shoppers is the 2013 refresh: it brought revised styling and interior details, stronger engines, and a useful dividing line between early and later cars. Hyundai discontinued the coupe after 2016. The Hyundai-badged Genesis Coupe is distinct from later vehicles sold under Genesis after the brand became a standalone luxury marque.
| Model years | Engines and output | Key changes |
|---|---|---|
| 2010–2012 | 2.0-liter turbo four: 210 hp; 3.8-liter V6: 306 hp, as reported by Cars.com for the introductory model. | Both engines were rear-wheel drive. Cars.com lists a six-speed manual for either engine, a five-speed automatic for the 2.0T, and a six-speed automatic for the 3.8. |
| 2013–2014 | 2.0T: 274 hp; 3.8: 348 hp, according to Cars.com’s account of the 2013 update. | Mid-cycle exterior and interior refresh, with increased output for both engines. |
| 2015–2016 | 3.8-liter V6 only; the 2016 brochure lists 348 hp. | The four-cylinder was dropped for 2015. The coupe’s final model year was 2016. |

What the early trims and 2013 refresh mean
Hyundai’s 2010 announcement for the 2011 model year described a six-trim lineup and added the 3.8 R-Spec. It listed output of 210 hp for the 2.0T and 306 hp for the V6. At that time, Hyundai described the R-Spec and Track trims as having firmer, track-tuned suspension; the R-Spec and 3.8 Track also had Brembo four-piston front calipers and ventilated rotors.

The 2013 update is more than a cosmetic marker if you are comparing listings: the refreshed cars received the higher-output engines and interior and exterior changes. The 2.0T remained available through 2014, while the 3.8 continued through the final year. Confirm a car’s model year, engine, trim, and equipment from its documentation rather than relying on a listing headline.

Kelley Blue Book listed these Fair Purchase Prices for 2016 3.8 models, with figures stated as valid through September 18, 2026. That validity date has passed; treat the values as a recent published benchmark, not a current guaranteed price or an appraisal of an individual car.

KBB describes its figures as based on national averages and typical mileage, and says values can vary substantially with mileage, condition, location, and other factors. The figures do not establish what a different model year is worth, nor do they account for an individual car’s maintenance record, accident history, modifications, or local market. For a useful comparison, match cars as closely as possible on the factors that affect both equipment and price:

- Fitments: 2010-2019 Hyundai GENESIS Coupe ONLY Size:Front Grille: 150mm x 72mm;Rear Trunk: 150mm x 72mm;Steering Wheel: 60mm x 32mm;Rims: 59mm x 59mm
- Model year and refresh era: distinguish 2010–2012 cars from the 2013 refresh and later years.
- Engine: identify whether the car is a 2.0T or 3.8; the four-cylinder was discontinued after 2014.
- Trim and equipment: verify whether the car has features such as the Torsen limited-slip differential or Brembo brakes rather than assuming they are standard across the range.
- Transmission: compare manual with manual or automatic with automatic, and confirm the transmission offered for that engine and year.
- Condition and records: review mileage, maintenance documentation, accident history, and the car’s present condition.
- Location: compare local listings for the same year, trim, mileage, and condition; a national benchmark is not a substitute for local market information.
Cars.com’s road-test coverage criticized the ride as unsettled on rough roads and the manual shifter as imprecise. Those are review observations, not proof that every car will feel the same. The available sources do not establish a comprehensive reliability record or a model-wide failure rate, so an inspection and documented service history are more useful than assuming every example shares a particular problem.
