What the Hyundai CRATER is—and isn’t
Hyundai describes CRATER as an off-road adventure EV concept and a design exploration. The company says it was conceived at Hyundai America Technical Center in Irvine, California, as an expression of capability and toughness. Hyundai presented CRATER at AutoMobility LA in Los Angeles on November 20, 2025. The company linked its design exploration to production XRT models including IONIQ 5 XRT, SANTA CRUZ XRT, and PALISADE XRT PRO, but CRATER itself remains a concept in the official information cited here.
Exterior design: built to look ready for rough terrain
Hyundai calls the exterior language “Art of Steel” and frames its shape around “The Impact of Adventure.” The concept uses a compact monocoque architecture, sculpted body sides, prominent fenders, and a wide protective skid plate. - Roof platform: Hyundai describes it as a mounting point for auxiliary lighting, storage, and other accessories.
- Limb risers: Cables running from the hood to the roof are intended to help protect against low branches.
- Recovery hooks: Hyundai gives them a playful secondary role as bottle openers.
Cabin ideas focus on utility and playful tech
The interior is presented as a functional, rugged space rather than a confirmed production cabin. Hyundai shows a roll cage, grab handles, wraparound seats, and a squared steering wheel with a central display. Buttons suggest Snow, Sand, Mud, Auto, and XRT modes; their presence in a concept does not establish the final features or operation of any production vehicle.
Other concept details include a removable Bluetooth speaker, a first-aid kit, and a fire extinguisher. Hyundai also shows removable side-mirror cameras that can double as flashlights. These elements communicate the design team’s utility-focused ideas, not equipment available to order.

What is known about the electric powertrain?
Hyundai’s official descriptions support calling CRATER all-electric. They do not specify battery capacity, range, charging speed, motor count, horsepower, torque, or a final production drivetrain. Without those figures, CRATER cannot be assessed as a retail EV or meaningfully compared with production electric SUVs on specifications. Hyundai’s brand journal on CRATER
The same caution applies to off-road capability: the tires, protective details, and body proportions establish the concept’s intended character, but the cited materials do not report independent tests or production performance measurements.

Can you drive CRATER in a game?
Yes. On October 7, 2026, Hyundai announced that CRATER was introduced in Season 11 of The Crew Motorfest, Ubisoft Ivory Tower’s open-world racing game. Hyundai says the game update includes the concept along with a new winch feature, vehicle customization, Custom Show, and TrackForge. Hyundai’s game announcement and brand journal describe a digital experience, not a real-world vehicle launch. Seeing or using CRATER in The Crew Motorfest does not mean Hyundai has put the concept up for sale.

Will Hyundai sell the CRATER?
The official materials cited here do not announce that CRATER will enter production, and they provide no price or sale date. Hyundai’s description of CRATER as an exploration of the next evolution of its XRT design direction is not a production commitment. Until Hyundai announces otherwise, treat it as a concept rather than an upcoming model available to reserve or buy.
