Hyundai has not announced a production version of the CRATER Concept, a release date, or a saleable model. The company calls it a concept vehicle and says it is “not available for sale.” That leaves open whether Hyundai might build a related vehicle in the future, but there is no confirmed CRATER buyers can order today.
What Hyundai has confirmed about CRATER
Hyundai Motor America unveiled the CRATER Concept at AutoMobility LA in Los Angeles on November 20, 2025. Hyundai describes it as a compact off-road SUV concept conceived at Hyundai America Technical Center in Irvine, California, and as a design exploration of the next evolution of its rugged XRT styling. Hyundai’s debut announcement frames the vehicle as a concept, not a production announcement.
Hyundai’s U.S. CRATER page describes it as all-electric and labels it: “Concept vehicle shown. Not available for sale.” The company had previewed it on November 17, 2025, as a “compact off-road SUV show vehicle,” ahead of the planned reveal. The teaser announcement likewise presented a show vehicle, not a launch plan.
Why the CRATER looks production-adjacent—but isn’t confirmed for sale
Hyundai places CRATER’s design in the context of its XRT models, naming the IONIQ 5 XRT, SANTA CRUZ XRT, and PALISADE XRT PRO as production vehicles that express the XRT spirit. That makes the existing lineup useful context for the styling direction; it does not establish that CRATER shares their platform, components, or engineering.

Hyundai Executive Vice President and Head of Hyundai and Genesis Global Design SangYup Lee said: “CRATER began with a question: ‘What does freedom look like?’ This vehicle stands as our answer.” The statement describes the design intent, not a commitment to manufacture the concept.
What is—and is not—known about a road-going CRATER
The official materials reviewed establish CRATER as an all-electric concept, but do not publish production specifications for range, battery capacity, charging, power, or off-road capability. They also do not give a production schedule, price, or announcement that the concept will enter showrooms. Concept imagery should not be treated as evidence of final equipment or specifications.

In July 2026, Hyundai reported that CRATER received a Winner title in the Red Dot Award: Design Concept 2026 competition. Hyundai’s award announcement calls it an off-road SUV concept; the recognition is for design and does not indicate a production decision.

It might, but Hyundai has not confirmed that it will. The accurate answer is that no production CRATER, sale date, or road-going specification has been announced in the official sources cited here. That is different from Hyundai saying the project is canceled or will never lead to a vehicle: the available statements establish concept status, not a permanent decision about its future.
