What is VENTRA?
VENTRA is TU/ecomotive’s 2026 electric concept car, developed by a student team to tackle non-exhaust particulate pollution. The team’s project description focuses on particles generated by tire wear, brake wear and road abrasion—pollution that an electric drivetrain does not eliminate. Dutch Design Week also presented VENTRA as an electric concept focused on tire and brake emissions, with an integrated electrostatic particle-collection system.

How is VENTRA meant to reduce tire particles?
The concept uses three complementary interventions: reduce the load that can generate wear, encourage driving that may avoid unnecessary wear, and capture some particles after they are released.

Lightweight construction
TU/ecomotive says the chassis is largely made from carbon-fiber-reinforced thermoplastic composite sandwich panels. It reports a 135 kg complete chassis, including a 45.5 kg monocoque, and a 790 kg vehicle. The team’s stated comparison is an approximately 230 kg chassis made using traditional methods. These are specifications and comparisons published by the project team.
The team gives VENTRA an estimated 290 km WLTP range. That is a team-published estimate, not a range measurement reported by an independent test.

Clean Drive monitors steering, braking and acceleration, then provides feedback meant to encourage smoother acceleration, gentler braking and less unnecessary steering. The goal is to reduce avoidable tire wear. TU/ecomotive does not quantify a measured wear or emissions benefit for this feature.

T.R.A.C.E. is TU/ecomotive’s integrated electrostatic capture concept positioned near the wheels. The team describes particles being electrically charged and attracted to collection surfaces. Dutch Design Week characterizes the approach as electrostatic precipitation in its VENTRA exhibition listing.

According to TU/ecomotive, airflow helps route particles into the system at higher speeds, while active fans draw in air at lower, city-driving speeds. Its project page says simulations route more than 24% of released tire particles into the system at 50–80 km/h. For city driving with active fans, the team reports that the system captures 42% of tire particles. TU/ecomotive’s homepage also carries the 42% headline.
How strong is the 42% capture claim?
The 42% figure should be read as a TU/ecomotive project claim about city driving with active fans, not as a proven result for everyday use. The separate figure—more than 24% at 50–80 km/h—is explicitly tied to simulations. The pages cited here do not provide a third-party test protocol, sample size, uncertainty estimate or peer-reviewed validation for either percentage.

The figures also describe the capture system, not the total reduction in vehicle particulate pollution. They do not establish a fleet-wide emissions outcome or quantify the combined effect of the chassis, Clean Drive and T.R.A.C.E. No measured head-to-head evaluation of the three interventions is reported in the cited project material.
What happens to particles after capture?
TU/ecomotive says collected particles were incorporated into an enamel coating inside VENTRA and describes them as safely encapsulated. That is the team’s account of a material-reuse demonstration. The cited material does not provide an independent toxicological or lifecycle assessment confirming the coating’s safety or the overall environmental effect of this reuse.

Can you buy VENTRA or its particle-capture system?
The sources describe VENTRA as a concept car and exhibition project, and T.R.A.C.E. as an integrated system within it. They do not identify a production version, retail price, sales channel or consumer-compatible capture kit. TU/ecomotive’s press and media listing includes a VENTRA EM11 press package, but that is not evidence that the car or system is for sale.
