Do these 3 things before closing this tab:
1Scan for outdated or missing drivers - takes under a minute2Clear out junk files and repair common Windows errors3Fix the driver behind crashes, sound loss and screen glitchesTo charge a Tesla at a Supercharger, choose a station in the vehicle’s navigation or the Tesla app, plug in, check that charging starts, then unplug when you’re done. Payment is charged to the Supercharging payment method selected in the app. Before setting out, check the station’s location details, availability, current price and fee information. Non-Tesla access depends on the vehicle and station.
Before you go: choose a station and set up payment
For a trip, use the vehicle’s Trip Planner or the Tesla app to find a Supercharger. Tesla’s navigation can route to the property entrance; zoom in on the map or open the station pin for its exact location and any site instructions. Check the pin for current availability and pricing, including on-peak or off-peak rates where shown. Prices and access can vary by station.
Set up payment in advance: in the Tesla app, go to Charging, select Manage Payment, add a payment card and designate it for Supercharging. Tesla requires a payment method to be on file before charging.
How to charge a Tesla at a Supercharger
- Navigate to the station. Select a Supercharger in the vehicle’s Trip Planner or Tesla app and follow the route and any instructions shown for that location.
- Open the charge port. Use the vehicle screen or Tesla app, or—while the vehicle is unlocked—press the bottom of the charge-port door.
- Plug in. Insert the Supercharger connector into the charge port. Confirm the session has started; Tesla says the port light flashes green when charging begins.
- Monitor charging. Check progress on the vehicle screen or in the Tesla app. Charging speed varies with the vehicle configuration and conditions such as battery temperature and state of charge.
- Unplug when finished. Hold the connector handle button to release the latch, then pull the connector out. The charge port closes automatically. Tesla processes payment through the selected method after you unplug.
How long to charge and how much to add
Tesla recommends Superchargers for long-distance travel. The vehicle’s Trip Planner can add charging stops and recommend a charge level for the next Supercharger. The station’s maximum power is not a promise of the rate your car will receive: the actual rate varies by vehicle and battery conditions.

Prices and congestion fees
Supercharging prices are specific to each site and can change. Check the current price in the vehicle navigation or Tesla app before charging; some stations show different on-peak and off-peak rates. Tesla may also apply congestion fees at busy sites once the vehicle reaches the applicable threshold or after charging ends. The threshold and applicable rules are not universal, so review the fee information shown for the site and move your vehicle promptly when the session is complete.

Using a Supercharger with a non-Tesla EV
Some Supercharger sites accept non-Tesla vehicles, but access is not available at every station. Tesla identifies Tesla-only sites, sites with a Magic Dock adapter at the post, and NACS sites that open to vehicles by manufacturer. Check the Tesla app or Tesla map using your vehicle details before routing to a location. Some vehicles require a NACS adapter supplied by their manufacturer; NACS-equipped vehicles do not need one. Follow your vehicle maker’s guidance and do not assume a generic adapter will work.
Start a session in the Tesla app
- Install the Tesla app and create an account.
- Choose Charge Your EV, enter your vehicle details and add a payment method.
- At a participating site, follow the app prompts and select the stall identifier shown on the post.
A limited number of sites offer card, mobile payment or text-to-pay directly at the station; do not count on a payment terminal being available everywhere. The app displays site prices, and an optional membership may reduce the price for eligible non-Tesla charging at select locations.
