To keep a high-power Corvette cool on track, start with the track-preparation guide and owner’s manual for your exact model year and configuration. Chevrolet’s current Corvette Academy track-preparation guide calls for a 40% DEX-COOL and 60% clean, drinkable water mixture, and gives conditional airflow-preparation steps for certain vehicles. Those steps are not universal: confirm applicability in your manual and ask a Chevrolet dealer about procedures that require component removal.
How do I keep my Corvette from overheating at the track?
Prepare the car to its own specifications, keep the cooling system in sound condition, and follow Chevrolet’s track guidance for the vehicle’s configuration. The current Corvette Academy guide is useful, but it does not replace the model-year owner’s manual or a dealer’s procedure for removing parts.

The current guide specifies 40% DEX-COOL and 60% clean, drinkable water for track use. Treat this as Chevrolet’s track-preparation guidance, not a blanket specification for every Corvette year and configuration. Check the owner’s manual and service information for the exact car, and ensure the coolant is in suitable condition.

Should I remove the Corvette’s front screen or aero covers?
Only follow removal guidance that applies to your specific model and equipment. Chevrolet’s current guide sets out distinct, conditional steps rather than one front-end preparation routine for all Corvettes.
- Optional front mesh screen heat-exchanger guards: For vehicles equipped with these guards, Chevrolet says to remove them for track events when ambient temperature is 90°F (32°C) or higher. The guide directs owners to a dealer for the complete procedure.
- Front license-plate/bracket and front aero cover: The surfaced guide applies these removal instructions to named high-performance versions: Z06, E-Ray, and ZR1/ZR1X. Do not assume they apply to other Corvette models, or attempt a procedure without checking the instructions for your car.

Can turning off the A/C help?
If you experience reduced performance during a track event or competitive driving, Chevrolet says turning off the A/C may help engine performance. This is an operating adjustment, not a repair or a way to diagnose a cooling-system problem. If a warning appears or temperatures remain abnormal, stop pushing the car and consult the owner’s manual and a qualified Chevrolet dealer or Corvette specialist.
Why not use an older Corvette temperature limit?
Track-preparation guidance and temperature cautions can be specific to a model year, powertrain, and configuration. Chevrolet’s 2017 guide warned about overheating risks for certain Z06 configurations above 85°F ambient, including a specific warning for a 2017 Z06 with an 8-speed automatic at 86°F (30°C) and above. Those historical cautions do not establish a safe ambient-temperature limit for newer Corvettes or other models. Use the manual and current guidance for the car you will drive.

What cooling features are specific to the ZR1?
Chevrolet’s 2025 ZR1 release describes a seven-stage dry-sump oiling system and model-specific cooling airflow: air passes through the intercooler heat exchanger and exits through the flow-through hood, while side ducts and fresh-air intake ducts serve additional cooling needs. These are descriptions of factory ZR1 engineering, not instructions or evidence that owners of other Corvettes should modify their cars.

Do not continue aggressive laps through a warning or recurring temperature problem based on an older guide or a temperature threshold from another Corvette. Follow the warning and stopping instructions in the exact car’s owner’s manual. If the issue recurs, have the vehicle assessed by a dealer or Corvette specialist rather than treating A/C-off operation or parts removal as a fix.
