Start with the tire placard on your specific Land Cruiser and confirm its details in the owner’s manual. The right replacement depends on the vehicle’s year, trim, market and wheel package, as well as the load and road conditions you expect. Without those details, no single tire size or model is a safe recommendation.
Identify your Land Cruiser’s approved tire fitment first
Before comparing tread patterns or brands, record the information for your particular vehicle. A tire advertised for “Toyota Land Cruiser” is only a starting point: fitment listings may cover more than one year or configuration, and a tire that matches one listed dimension is not necessarily appropriate for your vehicle.

- Read the tire placard on your vehicle. Record the specified tire size and recommended cold pressure. Check the owner’s manual as well; Toyota’s U.S. manuals provide guidance for their stated model years, but specifications can differ by year, trim, wheel package and market. See Toyota’s 2025 Land Cruiser tire guidance and 2025 tire-information section.
- Confirm the vehicle identity. Note model year, trim, country or market, and wheel size. If wheels have been changed, check that the wheels and tires are approved for the vehicle rather than assuming the original placard describes the current setup.
- Record the complete tire specification. Include size, load index and speed symbol, not just width and wheel diameter. Keep the placard and the current tire sidewall information available when asking a tire retailer or technician to confirm fit.
- Check the load rating before choosing a different size. Compare the tire’s capacity with the vehicle’s requirements and consult a qualified tire professional if changing size or rating.
A fitment page illustrates why those checks matter. Michelin North America’s Land Cruiser listing includes 265/60R20 112H at 33 psi front and rear among its entries, as well as other sizes; it also cautions that replacement load or speed ratings shown may differ from the original tire on the vehicle label. That listing is an example, not a universal specification for every Land Cruiser. Check the Land Cruiser fitment listing against your own placard and vehicle details.

How to read the tire size and ratings
The full marking on a tire sidewall is a set of specifications, not a shorthand where matching two numbers proves a fit. Toyota’s 2025 U.S. manual explains that the marking conveys tire use, section width, aspect ratio, construction, wheel diameter, load index and speed symbol. Read the full marking and compare it with your vehicle’s approved information.
| Marking element | What it tells you | How to use it |
|---|---|---|
| Tire-use marking | The type or use designation shown in the tire size information. | Check that the complete tire is suitable for the vehicle and intended conditions. |
| Section width | The tire’s stated width designation. | Do not treat matching width as proof of compatibility. |
| Aspect ratio | The stated relationship between the tire’s section height and width. | Compare the complete size, not this number in isolation. |
| Construction | The tire’s construction designation. | Include it when checking whether a replacement matches the vehicle’s specification. |
| Wheel diameter | The diameter of the wheel the tire is designed to fit. | It must suit the wheel, but matching diameter alone does not establish that the tire is suitable for the Land Cruiser. |
| Load index | A rating associated with the tire’s load capacity. | Check load capability against the vehicle requirements; do not choose a lower-capacity replacement without professional confirmation. |
| Speed symbol | A speed-related rating shown with the tire specification. | Compare it with the vehicle’s specified tire information rather than selecting by size alone. |
For the full Toyota explanation, see the 2025 Land Cruiser tire-information section. The table is a guide to reading the marking; it is not a substitute for the placard or an approved fitment check.
For example, Michelin’s listing includes a tire marked 265/60R20 112H. The listing associates that entry with a particular pressure and fitment, but seeing the same string on a listing does not establish that it applies to every Land Cruiser. A complete check considers all the marked elements, the vehicle’s own placard and the wheel setup. The load index and speed symbol matter alongside the dimensions; two tires with similar dimensions can still have different ratings.

Choose a tire category for your driving conditions
Tire category is a practical decision about the conditions you encounter, especially winter weather. Toyota distinguishes all-season, snow and summer tires in its U.S. Land Cruiser manual. The descriptions below reflect that guidance; they are not comparative test results for specific products.
| Category | When it may make sense | Important limitation |
|---|---|---|
| All-season | A general choice for drivers who encounter varied conditions and mostly drive on ordinary roads. | Toyota describes all-season tires as suitable for most winter conditions, but says they provide less traction than snow tires in heavy or loose snow. |
| Snow or winter | Regular travel on snow- or ice-covered roads, or conditions where added winter traction is the priority. | Toyota says snow tires should match the original tires’ size, construction and load capacity, and directs owners to install them on all four wheels. |
| Summer | Primarily dry highway driving in conditions without snow or ice. | Toyota describes summer tires as best suited to dry highways and inadequate for snow- or ice-covered roads. |
These are category-level distinctions, not a guarantee that every tire carrying a category label will perform identically. For product comparisons, evaluate the exact tire’s specifications and independently supported performance information rather than assuming a name or tread appearance tells the whole story. Toyota’s category and seasonal guidance is in its 2025 Land Cruiser manual.
Think about the seasons and surfaces the vehicle actually encounters rather than choosing by the most dramatic condition you might face once. A driver who regularly travels on snow- or ice-covered roads should give winter suitability serious weight; Toyota specifically recommends snow tires for those conditions and says to fit them on all four wheels. If you select all-season tires, understand Toyota’s stated limitation in heavy or loose snow. Summer tires are not an appropriate choice for snow- or ice-covered roads under Toyota’s guidance.
Also distinguish category-level guidance from a product ranking. A category can narrow the field, but it does not answer how a particular tire behaves on dry pavement, in rain, or on a particular unpaved surface. Compare the specific tire’s available specifications and reliable performance evidence for the conditions that matter to you. Do not assume that a tread pattern or product name alone proves winter or off-road capability.

Can you put all-terrain tires on a Land Cruiser?
Possibly, but “all-terrain” alone does not establish that a tire fits or meets the Land Cruiser’s requirements. Treat it as a tread and intended-use description, then verify the tire’s complete size, construction, load capacity and speed rating against your vehicle information. The cited Toyota guidance distinguishes all-season, snow and summer tires; it does not establish a universal all-terrain fitment or make a model-specific off-road performance claim.
If you expect frequent gravel or unpaved-road use, include that use in your discussion with a tire professional. Ask them to confirm the replacement is suitable for your exact vehicle and wheel setup, and weigh the trade-offs you care about—such as paved-road behavior, winter traction, comfort, noise, tread life and cost—using evidence for the actual tire being considered. Do not accept a size match by itself as proof of fit.
Use the same process if a tire is marketed as a highway, touring, mud-terrain or other specialized option: first verify that its fitment and ratings suit the vehicle, then consider whether its intended use matches your driving. The available Toyota category guidance does not compare named all-terrain products or establish that one style is best for every Land Cruiser owner. Be especially careful not to confuse an off-pavement label with a confirmed snow-tire recommendation; Toyota’s winter guidance specifically addresses snow tires and installation on all four wheels.
What load rating do you need?
Do not reduce the Land Cruiser’s required load capability. Toyota’s 2025 U.S. manual gives a specific check for replacement tires: the replacement tire’s maximum load divided by 1.10 must be greater than half of the greater front or rear GAWR. Toyota directs owners to find GAWR on the vehicle certification label and maximum load on the tire sidewall. This is Toyota’s stated check for the covered manual; do not treat it as a universal rule for every vehicle or tire change.

One-click scans. No signup required.
If you are unsure how to compare those values, changing wheel or tire size, or considering a different load or speed rating, have a qualified tire professional confirm the combination before purchase. The necessary rating is tied to your vehicle, not just the Land Cruiser name. Refer to Toyota’s 2025 manual for its load-capacity instructions.
To apply Toyota’s stated check, use the figures from the right places: the greater of the front or rear GAWR appears on the vehicle certification label, while the tire’s maximum load appears on its sidewall. Do not substitute a load index from a different tire listing for the sidewall maximum-load information without confirming the applicable values. If the labels or calculations are unclear, take the vehicle information and proposed tire specification to a qualified professional rather than guessing.
A higher or different rating does not, by itself, settle every fitment question. The entire replacement specification still needs to suit the wheel and vehicle, and an alternate size should be professionally checked. Likewise, a matching size is not enough if the replacement’s load capability does not meet the vehicle requirement. Treat fit, load and speed ratings as a combined check—not as separate boxes where one correct number makes the rest optional.

Set pressure using the vehicle specification
Use the pressure specified for your vehicle, and check it when the tires are cold. The maximum pressure molded on a tire sidewall is not automatically the Land Cruiser’s recommended operating pressure. Toyota presents vehicle tire information separately from the tire’s own markings; use the placard and the applicable owner’s manual to find the correct vehicle specification.
Do not transfer a pressure from another Land Cruiser fitment listing to your vehicle without confirming that it applies to your year and configuration. For example, Michelin’s listing reports 33 psi front and rear with one of its 265/60R20 112H entries, but the listing includes other sizes and is not a replacement for your own placard. See Toyota’s tire-information section and the Michelin fitment listing.
Pressure is a vehicle-specific specification, so an alternate tire or wheel does not give you permission to choose a number based on the tire’s maximum pressure or a different vehicle’s listing. Michelin advises consulting a qualified professional for alternate sizes and pressure. If you are considering either change, have the proposed setup and the appropriate pressure confirmed before driving on it. A pressure gauge is a useful way to check pressure, but the correct target still comes from your vehicle’s applicable information.
Plan for TPMS during tire or wheel work
The Land Cruiser’s tire-pressure warning system uses valves and transmitters that can be damaged if handled incorrectly during tire or wheel work. Tell the shop the vehicle has a tire-pressure monitoring system and ask the technician to take care around the sensors during removal and installation. Toyota’s tire guidance includes this caution.
This is worth raising when scheduling the work, not only after a warning appears. Toyota’s caution is specifically about possible damage to the warning valves and transmitters during tire or wheel work. Choose an installer prepared to handle the system carefully, and mention any wheel change as well as a tire replacement. The tire purchase and installation are linked: a suitable tire still needs to be mounted without mishandling the vehicle’s TPMS components.
Know when an existing tire should be replaced
Toyota says any tire more than six years old must be checked by a qualified technician, even if it has been used rarely or not at all and has no obvious damage. Have tires inspected if you notice any of the following conditions identified in Toyota’s guidance:
- Treadwear indicators are visible.
- The tire has a cut, split or crack deep enough to expose fabric.
- A bulge is present.
- The tire has repeated flats or damage that cannot be properly repaired.
See Toyota’s 2025 tire instructions and 2026 U.S. Land Cruiser tire guidance. Follow the manual that applies to your vehicle, and arrange a qualified inspection when a tire’s age or condition is in question.

Age is a reason for a professional check even when a tire looks acceptable or has spent much of its life unused. Condition also matters: Toyota identifies visible treadwear indicators, a bulge, repeated flats, and certain cuts, splits or cracks as reasons for concern. In particular, the manual calls out cracks deep enough to expose fabric. If damage cannot be properly repaired, replacement is a concern as well. Do not rely on appearance alone to overrule Toyota’s recommendation for a tire more than six years old to be checked.
Independent reader supportYour contribution helps us test, update, and keep practical guides available for everyone.Compare tire options without guessing
Once you have a confirmed fitment, compare candidate tires using the same questions for each option. Start with the exact approved size and the load and speed ratings; then compare the conditions and ownership factors relevant to your use:
Quick wins for a faster PC:
Fix the driver behind crashes, sound loss and screen glitchesFind Drivers →Repair Windows errors before they cause bigger problemsFix Now →- Fitment and ratings: Does the full specification match an approved fitment for your vehicle and wheel setup, and does it meet the load requirement?
- Dry and wet roads: What reliable information is available about the particular tire’s road behavior in the conditions you commonly drive?
- Snow and ice: Is the tire category appropriate for the winter conditions you encounter? Toyota says snow tires are for snow- or ice-covered roads and should be installed on all four wheels.
- Off-pavement use: How often do you drive on gravel or other unpaved surfaces, and is there evidence relevant to the exact tire under consideration?
- Comfort, noise, tread life and cost: Which of these factors matters most to you, and what product-specific information supports the comparison?
These are shopping criteria, not claims that a particular tire wins. Toyota’s manual directly supports the fitment, load and seasonal category distinctions; it does not provide comparative test results for named products. Do not infer a ranking from a brand, category label or tread appearance. When comparing prices, compare candidate tires that first meet the vehicle’s requirements so that a lower price is not mistaken for an equivalent replacement if size or ratings differ.
For an alternate size, wheel or pressure, ask a qualified tire professional to confirm the proposed combination rather than relying on a catalog match alone. For any tire, ask for confirmation of the complete specification—not only the width and wheel diameter. This makes the comparison more useful: you can weigh the performance and ownership factors you care about while keeping fitment and required capacity as non-negotiable checks.
A practical tire-shopping checklist
Before ordering, make sure you can answer each question with information for your own Land Cruiser:
- What model year, trim, market and wheel package does the vehicle have?
- What complete tire size, load index, speed symbol and cold pressure are shown on its placard or in the applicable manual?
- Does the proposed tire meet the vehicle’s load requirement, including Toyota’s stated GAWR check where applicable?
- Is the tire category suited to the roads and seasons you actually drive, including heavy snow or ice if relevant?
- Has a qualified professional confirmed any proposed change in size, construction, wheel fitment or rating?
- Will the installer account for the tire-pressure warning valves and transmitters?
Then compare candidate tires on the factors that matter for your use: approved fitment and ratings, dry and wet road behavior, snow and ice conditions, expected off-pavement driving, comfort, noise, tread life and cost. These are useful shopping criteria, not claims that a particular tire wins on any of them. Do not infer a performance ranking unless it is supported by evidence for the exact models you are comparing.

Frequently Asked Questions
What tire size fits my Land Cruiser?
There is no single tire size for every Toyota Land Cruiser. Check the tire placard on your vehicle and the owner’s manual that applies to its model year, trim, market and wheel package. Listings such as Michelin’s may cover multiple sizes and configurations; treat them as candidates to verify, not proof of fitment.
Can I put all-terrain tires on my Land Cruiser?
Possibly, but the all-terrain label does not confirm fit or load capacity. Verify the tire’s complete size, construction, load capacity and speed rating against your vehicle information, and ask a qualified tire professional to check any alternate size or wheel setup. Compare off-pavement use alongside road behavior, winter suitability, comfort, noise, tread life and cost.
Which Land Cruiser tires are best for snow?
Toyota recommends snow tires for snow- or ice-covered roads and says they should match the original tires’ size, construction and load capacity, with snow tires installed on all four wheels. Toyota says all-season tires suit most winter conditions but provide less traction than snow tires in heavy or loose snow. Confirm the exact fitment for your Land Cruiser before buying.
What load rating do I need for a Land Cruiser?
Use the requirement for your specific vehicle rather than a generic Land Cruiser recommendation. Toyota’s 2025 U.S. manual says the replacement tire’s maximum load divided by 1.10 must be greater than half of the greater front or rear GAWR. Find GAWR on the vehicle certification label and maximum load on the tire sidewall, and consult a qualified tire professional if you are unsure or changing size or rating.
Can I use the pressure printed on the tire sidewall?
Do not assume the maximum pressure molded on a tire is the vehicle’s recommended operating pressure. Use the cold pressure specified on your Land Cruiser’s placard and in the applicable owner’s manual. A fitment listing’s pressure applies only when it matches the relevant vehicle and tire configuration.
When should I have Land Cruiser tires inspected or replaced?
Toyota says any tire more than six years old should be checked by a qualified technician, even if rarely used and without obvious damage. Toyota also identifies visible treadwear indicators, cuts, splits or cracks deep enough to expose fabric, bulges, repeated flats and damage that cannot be properly repaired as concerns.
The Bottom Line
Choose Land Cruiser tires by verifying your own vehicle’s placard, full tire ratings, load capability and cold pressure first. Then select a tire category for your seasons and roads, and compare specific products on evidence relevant to your priorities. Have a qualified professional confirm alternate sizes or ratings, and make sure the installer handles the TPMS valves and transmitters carefully.
