Charge a Zero SR/F from an AC power source: use the EVSE cord included with the motorcycle for a household outlet, or connect to a compatible dedicated home or public AC charging station. The connector and charging rate depend on the bike’s market, model year and installed equipment. Check the owner’s manual for your exact SR/F before buying a cable, adapter or optional charger. The 2020 manual’s charge-time estimates are useful for that model-year configuration, but they should not be treated as universal figures for every SR/F.
Choose the charging method that fits your SR/F
The SR/F uses its onboard charging equipment to take power from an AC supply. For home use, that can mean the supplied EVSE cord and a household outlet, or a dedicated AC charging station where the motorcycle’s inlet and equipment support the supply. On a trip, a compatible public AC station is another option.

There is no single answer to “which charger does the SR/F use?” that covers every bike. The connector differs by market in the 2020 manual, and charging equipment and optional accessories vary by year and configuration. Start with the motorcycle’s model year and market, then confirm the inlet and charging equipment in its matching manual. Zero’s owner-resources page provides manual selection by model and year; a Zero dealer can help confirm a configuration if the manual or bike’s equipment is unclear.
| Charging option | What it uses | What to confirm |
|---|---|---|
| Household outlet | The EVSE cord included with the SR/F, according to Zero’s current SR/F product page. The 2020 North American manual calls this Level 1. | The manual for the bike’s year and market, and whether the available outlet and circuit are suitable. |
| Dedicated home AC station | A Level 2 AC charging station, as described in the 2020 manual. | That the connector, supply and motorcycle’s installed charging equipment are compatible. Charging speed is not determined by the station alone. |
| Public AC station | A compatible public AC charging point. The 2020 manual describes public EV stations as a Level 2 charging option. | The station’s connector and AC capability, plus the bike’s market-specific inlet and charging rate. |
The practical choice is not simply “slow charger versus fast charger.” It is a match between the bike, its market-specific inlet, the available AC supply, and how much charging time you can allow. If the supplied cord and a suitable household outlet cover your normal routine, you may not need to buy an optional charger. If you need a different charging arrangement, verify that the motorcycle’s installed equipment can use it before you spend money on a station, cable or accessory.

Charging at home
Using a household outlet
Zero’s current SR/F product page says the motorcycle includes an EVSE cord for charging from a standard household wall outlet. This is the straightforward choice if the included cord and a suitable outlet meet your needs; it does not require buying an optional rapid charger simply to have a home charging route.
- Identify the exact motorcycle. Confirm its model year, market and Standard or Premium configuration from the bike’s documentation. Do not assume that another SR/F’s connector or charging equipment is identical.
- Check the matching owner’s manual. Use the manual for that model year and market to verify the supported charging connection and any operating instructions. The 2020 manual describes household outlet charging as Level 1 in its North American configuration.
- Use the supplied EVSE cord as directed. Follow the manual’s instructions for your bike and cord. The available source material does not establish a universal button-by-button procedure or dashboard indicator sequence for every model year.
- Allow for the actual supply. The time depends on the power available and the SR/F’s charging equipment. A household outlet may take longer than a suitable Level 2 supply; do not plan from a charge-time estimate for a different model year or configuration.
If you are unsure whether an outlet or circuit is appropriate, have its suitability checked by a qualified electrician rather than assuming that any outlet is interchangeable. For the motorcycle-specific charging procedure, use the corresponding owner’s manual or ask a Zero dealer.
For a rider comparing the included cord with a home station, start by asking whether the existing setup meets the everyday need. The 2020 manual’s Level 1 figures provide a reference for that particular configuration: it estimates 8.5 hours to reach 100%, or 8.0 hours to reach 95%, at 110–120 V for both Standard and Premium models. Those are manual estimates, not a promise about a particular outlet. A different model year, supply or onboard charging configuration can change the result.
There is no verified purchase price or universal home-installation cost to quote here. The sources identify charging methods and some Zero accessory model-year groupings, but not current prices, circuit work, or what a particular home may require. If a dedicated station is under consideration, confirm the station and circuit suitability with a qualified electrician and confirm motorcycle compatibility with the exact owner’s manual or a Zero dealer before budgeting around a particular setup.
Using a dedicated home AC station
A dedicated AC charging station is the Level 2 home route described in the 2020 manual. It can provide a faster charge than the household Level 1 route in the manual’s 2020 estimates, but the station’s label alone does not determine the result: the SR/F’s installed charging equipment and the available supply also matter.
- Verify the SR/F’s inlet and equipment first. Check the matching manual and the motorcycle rather than buying a station or cable based only on the SR/F name.
- Confirm the electrical supply. The relevant manual and a qualified electrician can help establish whether the home circuit and station are suitable for the intended setup.
- Match the connector and charging path. Confirm that the station’s AC connector can connect to the motorcycle as specified for your market. Do not assume a cable or adapter will make an otherwise unsupported setup compatible.
- Use the manual’s operating instructions. Charging controls and indicator behavior can vary; follow the instructions for the exact year rather than borrowing a procedure from a different SR/F.
For the 2020 SR/F, the manual’s Level 2 table shows why configuration matters even when the nominal voltage range is the same. At 208–240 V it estimates 4.5 hours to 100% (4.0 hours to 95%) for Standard, and 2.5 hours to 100% (2.0 hours to 95%) for Premium. That difference is a reason to check the bike’s precise configuration, not a basis for assuming every Premium or later model will charge in the same time. The figures also assume no electrical-infrastructure circuit limits, as the manual notes.

How long does it take to charge a Zero SR/F?
Zero’s 2020 SR/F owner-manual table gives the following estimates for the 2020 Standard and Premium configurations. The manual says the quoted times assume no electrical-infrastructure circuit limits; actual charging also depends on charging equipment and the power-supply rating. These are 2020 manual estimates, not guaranteed times for a later SR/F.

|---|---|---|---|

| Premium | 110–120 V, Level 1 | 8.0 hours | 8.5 hours |
| Standard | 208–240 V, Level 2 | 4.0 hours | 4.5 hours |
| Premium | 208–240 V, Level 2 | 2.0 hours | 2.5 hours |
The Standard and Premium estimates match at Level 1 in that table but differ at Level 2: the listed Premium estimate is two hours to 95%, compared with four hours for Standard. That is why a model name alone is not enough to predict charge time. For a different year, use its own manual and installed-equipment details; the 2020 table should not be carried forward as a later model’s specification.
When planning a stop, distinguish the time to 95% from the time to 100%. The 2020 table lists both targets, and a 100% estimate is longer than the corresponding 95% estimate in each row. These figures describe the manual’s stated configurations and assumptions; they are not a promise of the duration at an individual home or public station.
Use the table as a comparison tool rather than a universal calculator. It shows that voltage/charging level and the motorcycle’s configuration can make a substantial difference in the stated 2020 times. It does not say how long a partially charged bike will take to reach a particular level, establish a charge time for every later model, or guarantee a result at a public station. For those questions, check the matching manual and the bike’s installed charging equipment.
For a simple planning check, first identify which row actually applies to the motorcycle. Then compare the manual’s 95% and 100% estimates with the time available, while remembering that the listed supply and circuit assumptions may not match the real location. If the bike’s year, Standard/Premium configuration, or charging equipment is uncertain, do not choose the shorter figure by guesswork; verify the configuration with the bike’s documentation or a Zero dealer.

Yes, an SR/F can use a public charging point when the point provides compatible AC charging and the connector matches the motorcycle’s inlet. The 2020 manual describes Level 2 as including public EV charging stations. That does not mean every public charger or plug will work with every SR/F.

Connector depends on the market
For its 2020 configuration, the manual identifies Type 1/J1772 under “Rest of the World” and Type 2/Mennekes for Europe. These are the manual’s regional descriptions, not a guarantee that every SR/F sold in a given region has the same inlet. Inspect your motorcycle and check its market-specific manual before setting out or purchasing a cable.
Those labels help narrow down what to check, but they are not interchangeable names for every EV connector. A North American rider looking for a portable spare may see “J1772 portable EVSE charging cable” used as a useful search phrase, but search wording does not confirm that a particular third-party item fits the SR/F. The 2020 manual’s connector information and Zero’s included EVSE cord provide a starting point; the actual inlet and manual for the individual bike remain the deciding reference.
Plan a compatible AC stop
- Confirm the bike’s connector. Use the inlet and matching manual, not a station listing or another rider’s motorcycle, as the final check.
- Check the station connection. Verify that it offers AC charging and that the connector can be used with your SR/F as specified for that bike. Do not treat an adapter as proof of compatibility.
- Account for the motorcycle’s charging rate. A public station’s maximum output does not by itself tell you how quickly your SR/F will charge. The bike’s installed equipment and the available supply affect the result.
- Use a model-specific manual for the procedure. The available instructions do not establish one button sequence, indicator interpretation or fault procedure that applies to every SR/F year. Follow the manual for your motorcycle.
Before relying on a public stop, compare the station’s offered AC connection with the bike’s actual inlet and charging capability. The station’s description alone does not establish that the motorcycle can use it at the station’s maximum listed rate. If you cannot confirm compatibility from the exact manual and station information, choose a charging point whose AC connector and use are clear or ask a Zero dealer for guidance rather than counting on an unverified adapter.

The sources cited for this guide do not establish universal CCS or DC fast-charge capability across SR/F model years. Do not plan a trip on the assumption that a DC fast-charge connector will work; confirm the supported charging method for the exact motorcycle first.
Optional chargers and cables: check the model-year fit
Zero’s US power-accessories listing shows that optional equipment is grouped by model year and configuration. It lists a 6 kW Rapid Charger for 2020–2021 SR/F models, a 3 kW Rapid Charger for 2020–2021 Standard models, and an EVSE Type 2-to-Type 2 cable in a newer model-year grouping that includes SR/F. These listings show that options exist; they do not establish that a particular item fits every SR/F or is available in every market.
Before ordering an optional charger or cable, compare its stated year and configuration with the bike’s manual and installed equipment. If those do not clearly match, confirm compatibility with a Zero dealer. A listing for a different year, market or Standard/Premium configuration is not sufficient evidence of fit.

The product names can sound like universal upgrades, but the listed groupings are specific: the 6 kW Rapid Charger listing is for 2020–2021 SR/F, while the 3 kW listing is for 2020–2021 Standard models. The Type 2-to-Type 2 EVSE cable listing belongs to a newer model-year grouping. Treat each listing as a lead to verify, not as proof that it applies to another year or market. Do not infer that an accessory will raise the charging rate on a motorcycle whose installed equipment does not support it.

For a North American owner searching for a portable spare or travel EVSE, “J1772 portable EVSE charging cable” is a useful search phrase because the 2020 manual identifies Type 1/J1772 in its Rest of the World section. It is not a compatibility certification for a particular third-party product. Zero says the SR/F includes an EVSE cord, and no specific third-party unit is established here as a confirmed replacement. Check the exact bike and product specifications before buying.
No current price, merchant offer, or tested third-party compatibility is established for these charging products. Compare the cost of an optional accessory only after verifying its year and configuration fit, and do not treat a search result or a lower-cost adapter as a substitute for the manual’s compatibility instructions. For many owners, the first question is whether the cord supplied with the SR/F already covers the intended household charging use.

- Applying 2020 timing to a newer bike: use the table only for the 2020 manual’s Standard and Premium configurations and stated voltage ranges.
- Assuming connector type from geography alone: the manual’s regional labels are useful context, but confirm the actual inlet and market-specific manual for your motorcycle.
- Assuming a higher-rated station guarantees a faster charge: the bike’s onboard equipment, supply and circuit limits affect charging.
- Buying an adapter or optional charger before checking fit: accessory listings have model-year groupings, and a listing does not prove universal compatibility.
- Assuming all public charging is suitable: confirm AC capability and a compatible connection; the reviewed sources do not establish universal DC fast-charge capability.
- Using another year’s operating steps: the precise charging sequence, indicators and fault responses are not established here for every model year, so consult the matching manual.
- Confusing a connector search term with a tested product: J1772 is a useful search phrase for the described North American context, not a guarantee that a generic EVSE or adapter is compatible.
- Ignoring the charging target: the 2020 table gives separate estimates for 95% and 100%; use the target that matches the plan, and do not collapse them into one universal time.
Where to confirm details for your motorcycle
Use Zero’s owner-resources page to select the manual for the SR/F’s model year, and compare its instructions with the motorcycle’s market and installed equipment. For connector, charger or accessory questions that remain unclear, contact a Zero dealer before purchasing or relying on an unfamiliar charging setup. The 2020 figures above come from a 2020 Zero SR/F owner-manual table reproduced by English Electric Motor Co.; consult the manual for your own year for current, bike-specific instructions.
Zero’s current SR/F product page is the basis for noting that an EVSE cord is included for household-outlet charging, while Zero’s US power-accessories listing identifies the optional product groupings discussed above. These sources answer different questions: the product page describes the included charging path; the manual gives model-specific operating and timing information; and the accessory listing is a compatibility starting point rather than a fit guarantee. For the final answer on a particular bike, prioritize its matching manual and actual inlet, then ask a Zero dealer if the equipment remains uncertain.

Which charger does the Zero SR/F use?
The SR/F charges from AC through its onboard charging equipment. Zero says the motorcycle includes an EVSE cord for a standard household outlet. A dedicated home or public AC station is another option when the inlet and installed equipment support it. Connector type varies by market and configuration.
How long does it take to charge a Zero SR/F?
The 2020 Zero SR/F owner-manual estimates range from 8.5 hours to 100% on 110–120 V Level 1 for both Standard and Premium models, to 2.5 hours to 100% on 208–240 V Level 2 for the Premium. The 2020 Standard Level 2 estimate is 4.5 hours. These figures are specific to the manual’s configurations and assumptions, not later SR/F models generally.
Does the SR/F support DC fast charging?
The sources cited here do not establish universal CCS or DC fast-charge capability across SR/F model years. Do not plan around a DC fast-charge connector without confirming the supported charging method for your exact motorcycle in its manual or with a Zero dealer.
Recommended Free Tools
Do I need to buy a portable EVSE or rapid charger?
Not necessarily. Zero says the SR/F includes an EVSE cord for household-outlet charging. Zero’s US accessories listing includes optional rapid chargers and cables for specified model-year groupings, but it does not show that every option fits every SR/F. Verify the year, market and installed equipment before buying.
The Bottom Line
The Zero SR/F can charge at home from the included EVSE cord and a suitable household outlet, or from a compatible dedicated or public AC station. Before planning charge times or buying accessories, confirm the bike’s model year, market, inlet and installed charging equipment in its matching owner’s manual. The 2020 estimates are useful only for the configurations and supply conditions they describe.
