To find what you will actually spend, add the quoted vehicle amount to registration and road tax, insurance, applicable levies or TCS, charger and installation, and documented dealer charges. Then model the separate battery payment, charging, maintenance, repairs and financing over the period you expect to own the car.
An Autocar India report dated 28 September 2026 gives entry-trim reference figures of ₹14.49 lakh with BaaS, ₹21.79 lakh with the battery included and ₹5.9 per kilometre as a usage charge. Those figures assume 60 km of daily driving, exclude charging and listed on-road charges, and are not a buyer-specific quote. Use them to understand the calculation—not as a final amount payable at a dealership.

What BaaS changes in the Harrier.ev purchase
Battery-as-a-Service separates the cost of the battery from the car. Instead of paying for the complete vehicle in one quoted vehicle price, you pay a lower vehicle amount and make a separate battery payment under the BaaS arrangement. Autocar India described the structure this way: “Under BaaS, the battery is paid for separately from the car, reducing the upfront price.”
The separation normally means two finance components: one for the vehicle and another for the battery. The battery component is not a fixed universal EMI. It depends on the battery size, your down payment and the loan tenure. If the contract uses a per-kilometre charge, the bill also depends on the kilometres recorded and the agreement’s billing rules. Ask for the battery finance schedule or usage contract in writing before comparing offers.

Published Harrier.ev figures to use as a reference
The following are reported entry-trim figures, not a complete on-road quotation:
| Item | Reported figure | Qualification |
|---|---|---|
| Vehicle price with BaaS | ₹14.49 lakh | Autocar India, 28 September 2026; entry trim; excludes listed on-road charges and charging |
| Vehicle price with battery included | ₹21.79 lakh | Autocar India, 28 September 2026; same entry-trim reference |
| Reported upfront difference | ₹7.30 lakh | Arithmetic difference between the two reported vehicle prices; not a final ownership saving |
| Reported BaaS usage figure | ₹5.9/km | Based on 60 km of daily use; charging is excluded and the figure is not necessarily the battery EMI |
A Tata.ev price page surfaced a Harrier.ev range of ₹21.69 lakh to ₹28.99 lakh when it was crawled about four weeks before 9 October 2026. The page could not be opened for verification, so treat that range only as a cross-check and confirm the current price of the exact variant with a dealer. It should not be substituted for a written local quote.

What “on-road” means in your worksheet
On-road is the amount required to register and take delivery of the selected car under the terms of your order. It is broader than the ex-showroom or BaaS vehicle price. Build the first subtotal from every line that appears in your current dealer quotation.
| Cost line | How to handle it |
|---|---|
| Selected Harrier.ev vehicle price | Use the exact variant and the BaaS or battery-included price shown on the quote. Do not use ₹14.49 lakh for a higher trim without evidence. |
| Registration and road tax | Use the amount for your state, city and registration category. EV concessions or exemptions must be confirmed in writing; do not assume they apply. |
| Insurance | Use the insurer’s current quote for the same vehicle and coverage. Compare like-for-like own-damage, third-party and add-on cover. |
| Government levies and TCS | Add every applicable levy and tax line stated by the dealer or finance provider. The published BaaS figures exclude these items. |
| Charger and installation | Add them if you need home charging and they are not included. Confirm the connector, electrical work, cable length and installation scope. |
| Dealer or documentation charges | Include only charges that are documented in the buyer’s quotation and legally payable. Ask the dealer to explain any unexplained line. |
Your first subtotal is therefore:
Initial on-road amount = BaaS vehicle price + registration/road tax + insurance + applicable levies/TCS + charger and installation + documented dealer charges
For a battery-included purchase, replace the BaaS vehicle price with the battery-included vehicle price. Keep every other line comparable. A lower BaaS vehicle figure does not prove a lower on-road amount if the two quotes use different insurance, registration, charger or dealer-charge assumptions.
Step-by-step method for calculating the complete BaaS cost
1. Freeze the exact vehicle and location
Record the trim, battery size, colour if it changes the price, registration state and city, intended registration type, and delivery date. Prices and taxes can change, and a report’s entry-trim number cannot be applied to another variant. Ask the dealer to mark whether each figure is ex-showroom, on-road, financed or payable at delivery.

2. Obtain two itemised quotations
Request one quote for the Harrier.ev with BaaS and one for the same variant with the battery included. The quotes should show the vehicle price, registration or road tax, insurance, all levies or TCS, charger and installation, accessories and dealer charges separately. Request the battery agreement or lender schedule at the same time; a vehicle quotation alone cannot reveal the total BaaS commitment.

Random freezes, missing sound and display glitches usually trace back to one bad driver. Find and replace yours safely.Free scan · under a minute3. Calculate the upfront BaaS on-road subtotal
Add the BaaS vehicle amount to all delivery-time costs. Do not label ₹14.49 lakh as “on-road”: it is the reported BaaS vehicle price for an entry trim, and the report expressly excludes road tax, insurance, government levies, TCS and charging.
4. Add the battery finance or usage payments
Use the battery lender’s amortisation schedule if the battery is financed. Capture the principal, interest rate, processing fee, down payment, number of instalments, prepayment terms, late charges and any end-of-term amount. If the arrangement bills by distance, record the per-kilometre rate, how kilometres are measured, the billing interval, minimum or maximum usage rules, and what happens if the vehicle is sold.
Do not convert ₹5.9/km into an EMI without the contract. The reported figure is a usage-cost reference based on 60 km of daily driving; Autocar India also says battery EMI varies with battery size, down payment and tenure.
5. Add charging and other running costs
Estimate charging separately from BaaS. Use your expected annual kilometres, the proportion of home, workplace and public charging, and the electricity or public-charging rates you can document. Add scheduled maintenance, consumables, tyres, repairs, roadside assistance and any service package. A BaaS battery payment is not a substitute for these costs unless your contract explicitly includes one of them.
6. Compare over one identical ownership period
Choose a period—such as the number of years you genuinely expect to keep the car—and use it for both purchase structures. Keep annual kilometres, down payment, interest assumptions, insurance coverage, charger choice and treatment of resale identical. If you compare a BaaS usage contract with a battery-included loan, include the financing cost of both rather than comparing only the sticker prices.

A useful total-cost formula is:
Total BaaS ownership cost = initial BaaS on-road amount + all battery payments during ownership + charging + maintenance and repairs + insurance renewals + other documented ownership costs
For the battery-included option:
Total battery-included ownership cost = initial battery-included on-road amount + vehicle-loan payments and financing fees + charging + maintenance and repairs + insurance renewals + other documented ownership costs
Do not count the same finance interest twice. If your lender quotes an EMI, use the total of the scheduled instalments and add fees that are outside that EMI. If you are comparing cash purchases, remove loan interest from both scenarios.
Worked example using the published 60-km assumption
The following is an arithmetic illustration of the reported usage assumption, not a prediction of your bill. At 60 km per day for 365 days, annual driving would be 21,900 km. Over five years, it would be 109,500 km.
| Calculation | Result | What it means |
|---|---|---|
| 60 km × 365 days | 21,900 km per year | Only the report’s stated usage assumption |
| 21,900 km × 5 years | 109,500 km | Illustrative five-year distance |
| 21,900 km × ₹5.9/km | ₹1,29,210 per year | Arithmetic usage amount before charging and other costs |
| 109,500 km × ₹5.9/km | ₹6,46,050 over five years | Illustrative usage amount; verify whether your contract bills this way |
The reported vehicle-price difference is ₹7.30 lakh. It is tempting to subtract that difference from the battery-included price and call the result a saving, but that ignores the separate battery payments. In the illustration above, the calculated five-year usage amount alone is ₹6,46,050, before charging, financing effects, taxes, insurance and maintenance. Your actual distance, contract rate and tenure may produce a materially different result.

BaaS versus battery included: compare the right axes
| Comparison axis | BaaS purchase | Battery included |
|---|---|---|
| Initial vehicle amount | Lower reported entry vehicle price, such as ₹14.49 lakh in the cited report | Higher reported entry vehicle price, such as ₹21.79 lakh in the cited report |
| Battery payment | Separate EMI or usage charge; terms depend on lender, battery size, down payment and tenure | Included in the vehicle financing or cash purchase |
| Upfront on-road total | Vehicle amount plus local registration, insurance, levies, charger and other quoted costs | Same categories of local costs, applied to the battery-included quotation |
| Charging | Separate unless expressly included in the contract | Separate unless expressly included in the contract |
| Maintenance and repairs | Separate from the battery payment unless the contract states otherwise | Separate ownership costs |
| Financing comparison | Potentially two loans or a loan plus usage agreement; compare total interest and fees | Usually one vehicle finance schedule, subject to the lender’s quote |
| Resale or transfer | Check whether the battery contract can be transferred, settled or continued by the next owner | Check the vehicle loan settlement and ordinary transfer requirements |
The useful question is not “Which sticker price is lower?” It is “Which structure produces the lower total payment for my kilometres, financing terms and ownership period after every excluded cost is added?”
Charger and installation can change the delivery-day total
Tata Motors’ June 2025 QWD price announcement listed a 7.2 kW AC fast-charger option at an additional ₹49,000 and stated that charger and installation were excluded from the listed vehicle prices. That is a historical introductory figure, not a guaranteed October 2026 quote. Confirm the current amount with the dealer.
Ask the installer to specify whether the price includes the charger, mounting hardware, cable, earthing, dedicated circuit, protection devices, meter work, civil work and commissioning. Confirm the connector and exact Harrier.ev compatibility. A charger may be technically suitable yet still require electrical upgrades that are not in the vehicle quotation. If you do not require home charging, remove that line from both comparison scenarios; if you do, include the same requirement in both.

Finance details that can reverse the apparent saving
Two buyers can receive different BaaS totals even when they select the same trim. Down payment changes the amount financed, tenure changes the number and size of instalments, and the battery portion may have terms different from the vehicle loan. Record these fields for each component:
Do these 3 things before closing this tab:
1Fix the driver behind crashes, sound loss and screen glitches2Clear out junk files and repair common Windows errors3Scan for outdated or missing drivers - takes under a minute- Cash down payment and financed principal.
- Annual interest rate and whether it is fixed or variable.
- Tenure and instalment frequency.
- Processing, documentation, insurance-bundling and other finance fees.
- Prepayment, foreclosure and late-payment charges.
- Any balloon, residual or end-of-term settlement amount.
- Whether the battery agreement continues after the vehicle loan ends.
When the dealer quotes a monthly amount, ask for the total payable over the full term. A low monthly figure can result from a longer tenure or a separate battery obligation that is not shown beside the vehicle EMI.
Independent reader supportYour contribution helps us test, update, and keep practical guides available for everyone.Taxes, registration and insurance need a local quote
No universal Harrier.ev on-road total can be calculated from the published figures because registration and road-tax treatment depends on your state and city, while insurance varies by insurer, coverage and vehicle details. The report’s BaaS numbers exclude government levies, road tax, insurance and TCS. Obtain a current quote for your registration location and retain the tax invoice or official fee schedule supporting each amount.
Check whether an EV incentive is available in your jurisdiction on the date of registration, whether it applies to this variant, and whether the benefit affects registration, road tax or another line. Do not subtract an incentive merely because it applied to an older purchase or another state. Compare insurance quotes with the same insured-declared value, deductible, add-ons and policy period.
How to request a quote that can actually be checked
- Give the dealer your registration state and city, exact Harrier.ev variant and intended delivery month.
- Request separate BaaS and battery-included quotations for that identical variant.
- Ask the dealer to label ex-showroom, on-road, financed and payable-at-delivery amounts.
- Request the full battery finance or usage agreement, not just a marketing per-kilometre figure.
- Ask which costs are excluded: charging, charger installation, insurance, maintenance, repairs, taxes, TCS, accessories and finance fees.
- Get the charger model, connector, installation scope and current price in writing.
- Ask how battery payments work when the vehicle is sold, transferred, written off or paid off early.
- Check that the written quote’s validity date covers your expected booking and registration.
Common calculation mistakes and how to correct them
Calling the BaaS vehicle price “on-road”
Correct it by adding every local delivery and registration line before describing the result as on-road. The reported ₹14.49 lakh is a vehicle-price reference only.

Treating ₹5.9/km as a guaranteed EMI
Correct it by obtaining the battery schedule or usage contract. The published figure is tied to stated usage and excludes charging; it does not establish your monthly instalment.

Comparing different trims
Correct it by using the same battery size, equipment level and charger requirement in both quotes. Entry-trim figures cannot establish the price of a higher trim.
Leaving out financing cost
Correct it by comparing total instalments, interest and fees for both structures over the same tenure. If BaaS uses two finance components, include both.
Ignoring the sale or transfer condition
Correct it by asking whether the battery obligation follows the car, must be settled by you, or can be transferred to the next owner. A contract clause can materially affect your exit cost.

Warranty and ownership terms require written confirmation
Surfaced Tata warranty information describes terms that vary with model, registration and ownership conditions. The surfaced page states 10 years or 2,00,000 kilometres for Sierra.ev and Harrier.ev, whichever occurs first, while also describing lifetime coverage for certain first registrations and defining lifetime as 15 years. Because the warranty page was not available for direct verification, do not assume those terms apply unchanged to your vehicle. Ask the dealer for the current written warranty applicable to your exact Harrier.ev, including battery coverage, transfer rules, exclusions and the definition of lifetime.
A practical decision rule
BaaS may suit a buyer who prioritises a lower initial vehicle outlay and has a contract whose battery payments remain attractive for the buyer’s expected distance. A battery-included purchase may be easier to evaluate when you want one vehicle finance schedule, own the battery outright and expect high or uncertain mileage. Neither conclusion follows from the ₹7.30 lakh reported upfront difference alone.
Before booking, calculate three scenarios with your written terms: low, expected and high annual kilometres. Keep the same ownership period and financing assumptions in each. If the BaaS contract has a per-kilometre rate, test the effect of driving more than the 60-km-per-day assumption. If it has a fixed EMI, test early sale, prepayment and the remaining balance. Choose only after the total payments, exclusions and exit conditions are visible on paper.
