How Much Will a 992 Porsche 911 GT2 RS Cost? The $478,000 Figure Explained

The $478,000 figure belongs to the GT2 RS Clubsport, not a 992 road car. Porsche priced the previous road-approved GT2 RS at €285,220 in Germany in 2017; a 992 price is not verified here.

There is no verified official price here for a 992-generation Porsche 911 GT2 RS. The often-cited $478,000 figure is real, but it was Porsche North America’s 2018 base MSRP for the track-only 911 GT2 RS Clubsport—not a street-legal 992. Porsche’s prior road-approved GT2 RS was a 991-generation car, priced in Germany at €285,220 in 2017.

Is the 992 GT2 RS officially priced at almost $500,000?

No official 992 GT2 RS price is established by the available Porsche material. Porsche USA’s model overview lists other 911 variants but does not provide a GT2 RS price or listing; that page alone cannot prove that Porsche has made no announcement through another market or channel. Porsche USA’s model overview is therefore not evidence for a $478,000 road-car MSRP.

The accurate answer is that the 992 GT2 RS price is unverified here. Do not treat an anticipated figure, a dealer asking price, or a price attached to a different GT2 RS variant as Porsche’s official MSRP.

Where does the $478,000 figure come from?

Porsche North America announced a $478,000 base MSRP for the 911 GT2 RS Clubsport in 2018, excluding tax, shipping, and import fees. Porsche said deliveries were expected to begin in May 2019. That price applies to the Clubsport, not a 992 road car. Porsche North America’s 2018 announcement

The Clubsport is a separate track car

Porsche Motorsport describes the GT2 RS Clubsport as non-street-legal and intended for track-day and Clubsport events. Its description calls it “the most powerful, non-street legal, GT customer sports car we’ve ever built.” The road-going GT2 RS and the Clubsport may share a name, but they are not interchangeable when discussing price or road-car availability. Porsche Motorsport’s GT2 RS Clubsport page

What did the previous road-approved GT2 RS cost?

Porsche’s June 2017 launch release priced the then-new, road-approved 911 GT2 RS at €285,220 in Germany, including VAT and country-specific equipment. This was a 991-generation car, not a 992. The figure is historical, reflects a specific market and tax basis, and cannot be used as a current US price or as a confirmed 992 price. Porsche AG’s 2017 launch release

That release described the predecessor as “The fastest and most powerful road-approved 911” and listed 700 hp, 0–100 km/h in 2.8 seconds, and a 340 km/h top speed. Those specifications belong to the 2017 predecessor, not a 992 GT2 RS.

Why the prices cannot be compared directly

The headline figure sounds like a simple price comparison, but the cited amounts refer to different generations, variants, markets, currencies, and tax terms:

Figure Generation and variant Market and price basis What it does—and does not—show
$478,000 GT2 RS Clubsport; announced in 2018 US base MSRP; excludes tax, shipping, and import fees Official Clubsport pricing, not a 992 road-car MSRP
€285,220 991-generation, road-approved GT2 RS; announced in 2017 Germany; includes VAT and country-specific equipment Historical predecessor pricing, not a current 992 price or US MSRP
992 GT2 RS Road-car price not established in the cited Porsche material Not stated No official price can be confirmed from these sources

A Clubsport base MSRP and a German road-car price that included VAT are not like-for-like figures. Neither supports calculating a 992 price by currency conversion or extrapolation.

What should buyers use as the price benchmark?

For now, treat the 992 GT2 RS price as unconfirmed rather than budgeting around $478,000 as though Porsche had announced it. A reliable comparison needs to identify the generation, whether the car is the road-approved GT2 RS or the non-street-legal Clubsport, the market and currency, whether taxes and delivery charges are included, and whether the figure is a manufacturer price or a dealer asking price.
