How much is a Mazda RX-7 worth today? The answer depends first on generation, trim, condition and the kind of price figure being quoted. The available reference points range from Hagerty’s $12,667 condition-rated guide for a 1987 FC to CLASSIC.COM’s $40,758 benchmark for an FD base model and $56,050 for FD R1/R2 variants. These are not directly comparable valuations, so use them as orientation—not as a guaranteed offer for a particular car.
RX-7 values at a glance
The RX-7 spans three generations: SA22/first generation (1979–1985), FC (1986–1992) and FD (1992–2002), according to CLASSIC.COM. Values vary substantially within each generation, and the figures below use different valuation methods.
| Reference point | Value | What the figure represents |
|---|---|---|
| 1987 RX-7 (FC) | $12,667 | Hagerty #3 Good condition guide, July 2026; low figure $7,767. Hagerty’s 1987 RX-7 valuation page |
| 1986–1992 RX-7s | $18,900 average sale price | Hagerty’s displayed 12-month data, based on 32 sales on its July 2026 page. This is a generation-wide sales average, not a condition-specific estimate. Hagerty’s 1987 RX-7 valuation page |
| FD base model | $40,758 | CLASSIC.COM Market Benchmark for the US/Canada base variant, accessed October 8, 2026. CLASSIC.COM FD model page |
| FD R1/R2 | $56,050 | CLASSIC.COM Market Benchmark, accessed October 8, 2026. CLASSIC.COM FD R1/R2 page |
| 1991 RX-7 convertible | $11,567 | Hagerty #3 Good condition estimate, October 2026; low figure $6,533. Hagerty’s 1991 convertible valuation page |
| RX-7, all generations | $27,648 average sale price | CLASSIC.COM dynamic database figure, accessed October 8, 2026; the page does not state a publication year. CLASSIC.COM RX-7 market page |
These numbers answer different questions. Hagerty’s figures are condition-rated guides or estimates, while CLASSIC.COM’s FD figures are market benchmarks. A recorded-sale average reflects cars that actually sold in the dataset; it does not set the price of an individual RX-7.
How much is an FC-generation RX-7 worth?
For a 1987 FC, Hagerty’s July 2026 guide puts a #3 Good example at $12,667, with a low figure of $7,767. Hagerty’s page also reports a $18,900 average sale price across its displayed 1986–1992 data, based on 32 sales in the preceding 12 months, with $605,400 in total sales volume. That broader average includes different years, body styles, mileage and models, so it should not be treated as the expected value of every FC.

Completed sales illustrate the spread. On Hagerty’s page, a 1987 coupe with 153,700 miles sold for $12,600 on December 29, 2025. A 1988 Turbo coupe with 18,000 miles sold for $39,638 on September 12, 2026. Those are individual outcomes, not price guarantees; their model, mileage and configuration differ.
Convertible values are a separate comparison
Hagerty’s October 2026 estimate for a 1991 RX-7 convertible in #3 Good condition is $11,567, with a low figure of $6,533. The page also displays a $20,999 completed sale for a 1991 convertible on March 29, 2026. The estimate is for that specific year and body style; it is not a proxy for all 1991 RX-7s.

How much is an FD RX-7 worth?
CLASSIC.COM’s FD base-model Market Benchmark is $40,758, accessed October 8, 2026. The page describes the US/Canada base variant as available for 1993–1995 and specifies a 1.3-liter 13B twin-turbo engine. CLASSIC.COM cautions that the value of a particular car depends on factors including condition.
FD trim makes a considerable difference in the same CLASSIC.COM benchmark snapshot, accessed October 8, 2026:

R1/R2 sales show why a benchmark is not a promise
CLASSIC.COM reports a $59,295 average recorded sale price for FD R1/R2 cars, alongside the $56,050 benchmark. Its recorded-sale range runs from $27,777 on July 28, 2024, to $148,000 on June 9, 2023. The record is an outlier, not a typical R1/R2 value. CLASSIC.COM describes R1/R2 as driver-focused 1993–1995 variants and notes model-year and equipment differences.

- Generation and model year: SA22/first-generation, FC and FD cars belong to distinct eras, and the generations do not share a single value range.
- Trim and body style: Turbo, base, convertible and special FD variants are not interchangeable comparisons. The FD benchmarks listed by CLASSIC.COM vary by trim.
- Condition and mileage: A condition-rated guide provides a different basis from a broad sales average. The FC sales shown by Hagerty range from a high-mileage coupe to a low-mileage Turbo, with very different outcomes.
- Originality and documented identity: Modifications can affect what a car is comparable to, while factory trim should be verified rather than inferred from appearance.
- Valuation method and date: A guide, benchmark, completed sale and all-generation average are distinct measures. Dynamic databases and valuation guides can change, so note when the number was accessed or published.
How to estimate a specific RX-7’s value
- Identify the generation and year. Start with SA22/first generation (1979–1985), FC (1986–1992) or FD (1992–2002), then confirm the exact model year and market.
- Confirm trim and body style. Separate base, Turbo, convertible and special variants. For an FD R1/R2, confirm factory identity and equipment rather than relying on badges or appearance.
- Compare condition and mileage. Match the car to examples with similar condition and mileage; do not compare a condition-rated estimate directly with a mixed-condition sales average without stating the difference.
- Account for originality and modifications. Record changes and documentation, then compare with cars of similar specification rather than assuming a modified example shares a stock trim’s benchmark.
- Label the price evidence. Say whether a quoted figure is a guide, benchmark, average, asking price or completed sale, and give its date and source.
What the record sale does—and does not—mean
CLASSIC.COM reports a top recorded RX-7 sale of $148,000 on June 9, 2023, and an all-model average recorded sale price of $27,648 on its page accessed October 8, 2026. The high sale is historical and not an estimate of what an ordinary RX-7 is worth. The average is a moving database figure, not a current quote for a particular generation or trim.
The available figures do not establish a reliable first-generation RX-7 benchmark, so a specific SA22-era car needs a like-for-like appraisal based on its year, configuration and condition rather than an assumed value derived from FC or FD data.
