The $500,000 figure refers to an estimated tested price for a new 2017 Ford GT—not its exact base MSRP or its value today. For a current reference, Hagerty’s October 2026 guide lists a 2018 Ford GT in #3 Good condition at $788,000, while individual auction results have ranged much higher. The answer depends on which Ford GT generation, model year, condition and type of price you mean.
What did the $500,000 Ford GT cost when new?
The modern Ford GT is the second-generation car, built for model years 2017–2022. Its 2017 base MSRP was $453,750, according to Car and Driver and MotorTrend. MotorTrend listed the 2017 car’s price as tested as an estimated $500,000. That tested figure is a rounded estimate, not an exact invoice or sale record.
Ford’s 2017 technical specifications identify the car as a mid-engine, rear-wheel-drive supercar with a 3.5-liter twin-turbocharged EcoBoost V6 rated at 647 hp, a seven-speed dual-clutch transaxle, and active aerodynamics and suspension. It is a different generation from the original 2005–2006 Ford GT.
What is a modern Ford GT worth today?
A useful current guide reference is Hagerty’s October 2026 valuation for a 2018 Ford GT: its displayed value is $788,000, within a #3 Good-condition range of $771,000–$799,667. This is a condition-specific guide estimate, not a promise that a particular car will sell for that amount. See Hagerty’s 2018 Ford GT valuation.

Recent sales provide another, distinct measure. Hagerty’s 2022 Ford GT page reports 28 sales of 2017–2022 Ford GTs over the preceding 12 months, averaging $855,100. It also lists two 2026 sales of 2022-model cars: $913,000 and $1.1 million. These are reported transactions, not a guaranteed asking price or valuation for every car. The figures are available on Hagerty’s 2022 Ford GT page.
Why guide values and auction prices differ
A guide estimate, an average across multiple sales and an individual auction result answer different questions. Hagerty’s page for the 2018 model lists a $2 million auction sale on August 15, 2026—far above its October 2026 #3 Good guide value. That result shows what one car brought in one transaction; it does not establish the typical value of a 2018 Ford GT.

For a meaningful comparison, match the generation and model year first, then consider condition, mileage, originality and configuration, as well as the sale date and venue. The available figures do not establish a specific dollar adjustment for each of those factors, so a single guide value should not be treated as a precise appraisal of an individual car.

The original modern-era Ford GT is a separate generation from the 2017–2022 car. Hagerty’s July 2026 #3 Good-condition range for a 2006 Ford GT is $466,333–$536,333. That is a condition-based guide range, not a direct comparison with the 2018 figure or a sale guarantee. See Hagerty’s 2006 Ford GT valuation.
