Subaru raised prices by a reported $750 to $2,055 on most of its U.S. lineup in May 2025. Tariffs were part of the economic backdrop, but Subaru did not publicly identify them as the reason for this specific adjustment.
How much did Subaru prices increase?
Car and Driver reported increases of $750 to $2,055, depending on model and trim, across most of Subaru’s lineup. Auto123 separately reported a $750-to-$2,055 range for American-produced Subaru vehicles; that report does not establish an exact increase for every model or trim.
These were changes to vehicle pricing, not a guarantee that every buyer’s final transaction price rose by the same amount. Dealer offers and negotiations can differ from MSRP, so buyers should compare the specific vehicle’s current sticker price with the offer they receive.
Which Subaru models were affected?
The reports describe broad coverage, not a complete, current trim-by-trim price list. Car and Driver reported that most models received increases and identified the Solterra EV as unchanged. Cars.com reported that the base non-hybrid Forester was not included in the May 8 adjustment, noting its price had been raised earlier in February.

Those exceptions are not interchangeable: one source describes the Solterra as unchanged, while the Forester detail is specifically about the base non-hybrid trim and the May adjustment. The reports do not establish a precise May increase for every other model and trim.
When did the new prices take effect?
Cars.com reported the adjustment on May 8, 2025. Car and Driver described the increases as applying to June deliveries. These refer to different milestones—the reported announcement or adjustment date and the deliveries to which the pricing applied—rather than necessarily indicating that every vehicle’s price changed on the same day.

Did Subaru confirm tariffs caused the increases?
No. Subaru’s public explanation, quoted by Reuters, was “current market conditions.” Reuters reported that the company’s statement did not cite tariffs or detail specific price actions. Subaru of America director of corporate communications Dominick Infante gave Cars.com a similar explanation: “Subaru of America has adjusted its pricing in response to current market conditions.”
Auto123 reported an additional statement Subaru gave Car and Driver: “The changes were made to offset increased costs while maintaining a strong value proposition for the customer.” That points to increased costs generally, but it does not identify tariffs as the particular cost driver behind the May pricing change.

Tariffs are relevant context, not a confirmed explanation. Subaru Corporation’s annual report says tariffs on imported vehicles and parts could raise costs and consumer prices, while acknowledging uncertainty about their ultimate impact. That company-wide risk disclosure does not establish that tariffs caused this specific U.S. retail price adjustment. The available reports also do not establish a Subaru-specific tariff cost figure.

What should buyers check?
- Confirm the exact trim and MSRP. The reported range is not a substitute for a current price for the specific vehicle you are considering. Check Subaru’s current pricing information or ask a dealer for the vehicle’s window sticker.
- Compare the written offer with MSRP. A price adjustment to MSRP does not by itself determine a dealer’s sale price. Review the vehicle price and any separately listed charges in the offer.
- Ask about the vehicle’s pricing date and availability. The reports distinguish the May 8 adjustment from June deliveries, so confirm which price applies to a particular vehicle rather than assuming all inventory was repriced at once.
- Check exceptions by model and trim. The reported unchanged Solterra and the base non-hybrid Forester exception do not establish that every trim of those models was unaffected in every pricing period.
Product prices and availability are accurate as of the date/time indicated and are subject to change. Any price and availability information displayed on Amazon at the time of purchase will apply.
