More than five wagon-style models are listed for the 2026 U.S. model year. The count depends on what qualifies: include lifted all-terrain wagons, performance estates and electric Sport/Cross Turismo variants, and the list is broader than a narrow count of conventional wagons. These are model-year offerings, not a count of cars sitting in dealer lots, and ordering availability can change.
Are there any wagons left in the U.S.?
Yes. For the 2026 model year, manufacturer pages and federal model-year listings identify a small but varied group of new wagons and wagon-style vehicles. That group includes the Audi A6 allroad, Volvo V60 Cross Country, Mercedes-Benz E-Class All-Terrain, Mercedes-AMG E 53 Hybrid Wagon and BMW M5 Touring. NHTSA’s 2026 model-year AALA listing also includes Porsche Taycan Sport Turismo and Cross Turismo variants.
There is no single official count because the answer changes with the definition. A recent CarCody roundup counts seven offerings under its own approach, including the Audi RS 6 Avant performance and Mercedes-Benz E 450 All-Terrain. Treat that as a secondary-source tally, not a definitive census: nameplates, trims and wagon-like body styles are not always counted consistently.
These listings establish that models are presented for the 2026 model year; they do not establish nationwide dealer stock or guarantee that every variant is currently orderable. Check the manufacturer’s live page and local dealers for current ordering and inventory status.

Cargo-volume methods can differ across brands, so Audi’s figure is not directly comparable without checking each manufacturer’s measurement basis.
Why does the wagon count vary?
Lifted all-terrain wagons
The A6 allroad, V60 Cross Country and E-Class All-Terrain use wagon bodies with raised, adventure-oriented positioning. Some lists count these as wagons; others group them with crossovers. Their all-wheel drive or higher ride height should not be read as evidence of off-road capability beyond the manufacturer’s guidance.

Performance wagons and variants
Some counts include high-performance estates such as the Audi RS 6 Avant performance and BMW M5 Touring. The Mercedes-Benz E-Class All-Terrain and Mercedes-AMG E 53 Hybrid Wagon can be counted as two saleable models or as versions within one E-Class family. The total changes depending on whether the tally counts nameplates, distinct variants or broader model families.
Electric Sport Turismo and Cross Turismo models
The Porsche Taycan Sport Turismo and Cross Turismo are electric wagon-style variants. Including them broadens the count beyond conventional gasoline wagons. NHTSA’s AALA listing is evidence that the variants appear in the 2026 model-year listing, but it is not proof that a specific version is currently available to order from Porsche.

What about the Subaru Outback?
The Outback is a boundary case. Subaru’s 2026 brochure emphasizes rugged styling, capability and ground clearance, while some wagon roundups include it and others classify it as a crossover or SUV. A count should say explicitly whether it includes the Outback rather than silently treating the classification as settled.
Is the 2026 Subaru Outback a station wagon?
It depends on the classification rule. Its wagon-like shape and cargo-oriented layout support including it in a broad everyday definition, while its rugged styling, ground clearance and crossover positioning lead some lists to exclude it. For a useful comparison, decide whether your list includes crossover-like vehicles, then apply that rule consistently to the Outback and lifted allroad, Cross Country and All-Terrain models.

How should you choose among the remaining wagons?
Set the budget before comparing performance
The cited starting figures range from Volvo’s $53,595 MSRP to Audi’s $73,100 starting price and BMW’s $125,300 starting MSRP. They are manufacturer-listed values and may not include the same charges or reflect current dealer pricing. The AMG and Mercedes-Benz E-Class pages cited here do not establish comparable prices.
Match the powertrain to how you drive
The listed set spans a gasoline mild hybrid in the Volvo, plug-in hybrid powertrains in the BMW and AMG, and electric Taycan variants. A plug-in hybrid or EV makes most sense when charging access fits your routine; compare efficiency, performance and purchase cost using current specifications for the exact version you are considering.

Check real cargo needs
Audi reports 30.0 cu. ft. behind the rear seats and describes 40/20/40 folding seatbacks. Consider the shape of the cargo area, seat-folding flexibility and the space you need for passengers or bulky items; do not assume another brand’s published cargo figure uses the same measurement method.
Distinguish all-weather usefulness from off-road ability
All-wheel drive and raised ride height feature prominently in Audi’s allroad and Volvo’s Cross Country descriptions. Those features may suit rougher roads or poor weather, but they do not by themselves establish a vehicle’s off-road limits. Consult the manufacturer’s guidance for the exact model.
Balance performance against everyday costs
The M5 Touring is positioned as a high-performance wagon, not simply a cargo-first alternative. Consider whether its performance suits your priorities alongside price, running costs, comfort and everyday utility. No comparative road test is established by the cited sources, so a universal “best wagon” verdict would go beyond the evidence.
What does “on sale” mean here?
It means a vehicle is listed or identified for the 2026 U.S. model year in the cited manufacturer or federal sources, not that it is physically in stock at a nearby dealer. Manufacturer build and inventory pages can help shoppers check current options, but listings and ordering windows are volatile. Confirm the exact model year, trim, order status and dealer availability before making plans.
