Jay Leno’s collection was described as having about 210 cars in a May 2025 interview. A separate account published the month before put the count at 212. Those are approximate, dated figures—not a verified live inventory—and motorcycles are counted separately.
Why the reported count is not exact
The May 2025 report by Kerry Eggers gives about 210 cars and 168 motorcycles. In April 2025, battery-charger company CTEK reported 212 cars and 186 motorcycles after a garage visit guided by operations manager John Pera. The two accounts are close on cars but differ on motorcycles; neither establishes a definitive inventory or explains a common counting method. Eggers’s May 2025 interview and CTEK’s April 2025 account should therefore be read as separate snapshots.
Leno also told Visordown in an interview updated May 10, 2024, “I think I have about 90 cars and probably about the same number of bikes, but it changes.” That self-report is substantially lower than the other published totals, and the available accounts do not reconcile the difference. His comment does, however, make clear why an undated exact figure is misleading. Read the Visordown interview.
How the published estimates changed over time
| Report date | Cars | Motorcycles | Source and context |
|---|---|---|---|
| 2017 | 160 | 133 | AARP profile; described the vehicles as housed in Big Dog Garage. |
| 2021 | 198 | 163 | Auto Express report. |
| 2024 | About 90 | Probably about the same number of bikes | Leno’s approximate self-report to Visordown; he added that the number changes. |
| April 2025 | 212 | 186 | CTEK account, citing a garage visit led by operations manager John Pera. |
| May 2025 | About 210 | 168 | Kerry Eggers interview/report. |
These figures come from different dates and sources, so they should not be treated as a precise year-by-year inventory or proof of a particular buying or selling pattern.

What is included in “the collection”?
The figures above distinguish cars from motorcycles. For example, the May 2025 report’s 210 cars and 168 motorcycles add up to 378 vehicles across both categories; CTEK’s April account totals 398. Those combined figures are arithmetic from each source’s separate counts, not independently reported totals. If the question is how many cars Leno has, motorcycles should not be added to the answer.
The collection is also associated with Leno’s interest in automotive history and hands-on work. Auto Express described his choices as partly guided by vehicles that are “no longer in production, fascinating to look at and of technical or historical interest.” AARP’s 2017 profile described mechanics working to get vehicles running at Big Dog Garage. These are descriptions of the collection and its upkeep, not a claim that every vehicle fits the same criteria.
