Jony Ive and his design collective LoveFrom helped shape Ferrari’s first all-electric production car, the Luce—but they did not design it alone. Their credited work spans the exterior, interior and interaction design, within a project Ferrari developed with its own design and engineering teams. The car’s mix of tactile controls and digital displays makes the collaboration visible; whether that design makes buyers want the car is still an open question.
What Jony Ive has to do with Ferrari’s first electric car
Ferrari’s first all-electric production vehicle is called the Luce. LoveFrom’s project archive names Jony Ive, Marc Newson and the collective as designers, with a remit covering “Exterior, interior & interaction design.” Ferrari’s 2025 annual report search excerpt describes LoveFrom as providing creative guidance across the exterior, interior and user experience. LoveFrom’s Luce archive and Ferrari’s 2025 annual report therefore support a broad design collaboration—not the claim that Ive alone designed or engineered the car.
The partnership predates the car’s reveal: Exor and Ferrari announced a multi-year creative partnership with LoveFrom in September 2021. LoveFrom says the cockpit and interface were presented in San Francisco on 9 February 2026, followed by the complete vehicle in Rome on 25 May 2026. The Luce is now a revealed car, rather than a speculative future project. The partnership announcement and LoveFrom’s project timeline document those milestones.
How the Luce’s design combines physical controls and screens
LoveFrom describes the car as “A new electric Ferrari, considered from the bodywork to the smallest point of contact.” That framing matters: the work is not limited to a screen or dashboard. The archive points to a continuous cockpit dashboard, distinct physical controls, a recycled-aluminium three-spoke steering wheel, and mechanical buttons and toggles alongside multifunctional screens. It also emphasizes the tactile character of individual controls. LoveFrom’s Luce archive gives the project’s own design description.

The result is a deliberate pairing of digital information with hardware a driver can see and touch. It differs from a digital-first cabin in which most functions are routed through screens, while avoiding the opposite idea that an electric Ferrari should reject digital interfaces. The documented design choices establish that balance; they do not establish that every control is easier to use or that every buyer will prefer it.
Why this is a Ferrari–LoveFrom project, not an Apple car
Calling the Luce “the closest thing to an Apple car” confuses a designer’s previous work with the identity of the vehicle. The Luce is a Ferrari production car, not an Apple product. Ferrari’s own 2025 Capital Markets Day presentation discusses an internally developed next-generation human interface using digital and analogue elements, alongside in-house software for vehicle dynamics. That context places the LoveFrom work within Ferrari’s product strategy rather than suggesting a transplanted Apple interface. Ferrari’s Capital Markets Day presentation describes that wider strategy.

The distinction is also practical: design direction and vehicle engineering are not interchangeable. LoveFrom’s archive credits exterior, interior and interaction design; Ferrari’s reporting calls its role creative guidance. Neither source says LoveFrom engineered the vehicle or that Ferrari handed over responsibility for the entire car.
What kind of Ferrari the Luce is—and what it is expected to deliver
The Luce is a four-door, five-seat electric gran turismo, not a conventional two-seat supercar. IAA MOBILITY describes Ferrari’s decision to add electric power as another powertrain option for the brand. That body style and role help explain why its design cannot be judged only against the silhouette or cabin layout of a two-seat Ferrari. IAA MOBILITY’s Luce coverage identifies its format and positioning.

Price, deliveries and what is not yet established
IAA MOBILITY reported an expected starting price of around €550,000 and planned first deliveries in 2027. Those are estimates and plans, not a confirmed final price or proof that deliveries have begun. AP reported on 26 May 2026 that US pricing had not been announced. IAA MOBILITY’s report and AP’s 26 May 2026 coverage provide those launch details.
The “secret sauce” idea is an interpretation, not a demonstrated sales result. The available reporting does not quantify consumer desire, purchase intent or orders attributable to LoveFrom’s design. Early reaction has been mixed: AP quoted Autocar editor-at-large Matt Prior saying the exterior “isn’t universally loved” and that the interior is well done but the car does not “shout Ferrari.” AutoPacific’s Robby DeGraff called it “perhaps the most controversial model to bear the stallion on its fenders.” These are attributed opinions, not a measure of what future customers will buy. AP’s coverage of the reveal and reaction reports both the criticism and the disagreement around the design.
Do these 3 things before closing this tab:
1Clear out junk files and repair common Windows errors2Fix the driver behind crashes, sound loss and screen glitches3Repair Windows errors before they cause bigger problemsAP also reported that Ferrari shares fell 8.4% in Milan and US-listed shares fell 5.3% on 26 May 2026. A share-price move on the day of a reveal does not establish that LoveFrom’s work caused the decline, or predict whether the Luce will succeed with buyers.
