General Motors says a production 2026 Chevrolet Silverado EV Max Range Work Truck traveled 1,059.2 miles on a full charge in an engineering-team test. That is not the truck’s normal published range: Chevrolet lists up to 493 miles EPA-estimated for this configuration. GM achieved the longer distance through a week-long, low-speed, efficiency-focused drive on public roads.
What was the Silverado EV range record?
GM reported on August 5, 2025, that its production 2026 Silverado EV Max Range Work Truck covered 1,059.2 miles before the battery was depleted. GM said the result surpassed a 749-mile record it attributed to Lucid earlier that summer. A later account from GM News says 35 employees took turns driving the truck over a week. The route used public roads near GM’s Milford Proving Ground in southeastern Michigan, with the final stretch on Detroit’s Belle Isle. How did GM reach 1,059.2 miles?
GM said the truck’s hardware and software were left untouched, and that the adjustments and driving choices stayed within the owner’s manual limits. The team focused on reducing energy use rather than reproducing ordinary driving.

- They avoided hard braking and quick acceleration, and drove without passengers for most of the attempt.
- The team turned off climate control and ran the test in summer.
- They inflated the tires to the highest acceptable pressure, set the wiper arms to the lowest acceptable position, removed the spare tire and optimized wheel alignment.
- They added an accessory tonneau cover to smooth airflow over the bed.
Those measures made this a deliberately controlled efficiency effort. GM’s account describes public-road driving, but the speed, load, weather and operating choices do not represent a typical trip. How does the result compare with the Silverado EV’s rated range?
Chevrolet lists up to 493 miles of EPA-estimated range on a full charge for the 2026 Silverado EV Max Range Work Truck. The GM-reported test distance is about 2.15 times that estimate, but the figures measure different things: one is Chevrolet’s published EPA estimate, and the other is a single, specially managed test result reported by GM. Chevrolet cautions that actual range varies with ambient temperature, terrain, battery age and condition, loading, vehicle use and maintenance. The record attempt does not establish what owners should expect on ordinary highway or mixed driving, or with passengers, cargo, climate control, different weather or varied terrain.
