Carson Brown is scheduled to race full-time for Richard Childress Racing (RCR) in the NASCAR O’Reilly Auto Parts Series in 2027, driving the No. 2 Whelen Chevrolet. RCR announced the move on August 26, 2026, describing it as the next step in a multi-year development plan. His route there ran through dirt and pavement racing, Late Models, ARCA and TA2—not a single jump into a national series.

What RCR announced for 2027

RCR named Brown its full-time driver of the No. 2 Whelen Chevrolet for the 2027 NASCAR O’Reilly Auto Parts Series season. The seat had been occupied by Jesse Love. RCR said Brown was already part of its development program and framed the promotion as a continuation of his career development. The announcement establishes a planned future-season assignment; it is not a report of results from the 2027 season. RCR’s August 26, 2026 announcement quoted chairman and CEO Richard Childress: “Carson has continued to impress us with what he can do behind the wheel, but just as importantly, he has the character and work ethic we look for in a driver representing RCR.”

RCR also cited a tradition of more than 50 years of identifying and developing young drivers for NASCAR national series. That is the team’s own description of its history, rather than an independent measure of Brown’s prospects. Whelen motorsports general manager Peter Tiezzi likewise welcomed Brown to the No. 2 car and praised his potential; those comments reflect the team and sponsor’s assessments.

Brown’s path through multiple kinds of racing

Brown’s background spans disciplines and series, giving the development story more than one rung. An ARCA preview published May 7, 2026 described experience in dirt racing and noted a Super Late Model victory at Moler Raceway Park in 2023, in Brown’s sixth start there. He also raced in Bandoleros, Legend Cars, Micro Sprints, pavement Late Models and off-road competition, according to Racing America’s report on his NASCAR debut. ARCA’s May 2026 preview and Racing America’s August 2026 report document different parts of that progression.

Late Models, dirt and TA2

Brown’s dirt experience is one element he has said helped him adjust to unfamiliar tracks and disciplines. “My dirt experience has helped me adapt to new racetracks and new disciplines quicker,” he told ARCA. The same preview reported that he won his first Trans-Am TA2 race at Virginia International Raceway in 2025 by 1.748 seconds, after finishing third at Watkins Glen. These examples show range across surfaces and formats; they do not, on their own, establish what results he will produce in a different series.

ARCA results in 2026

At the time of ARCA’s May 7 preview, Brown had made five ARCA starts, all top-ten finishes, with a fourth-place average. That was a dated snapshot, not a current career total. RCR’s later August 26 announcement cited Brown’s first ARCA Menards Series victory, at Phoenix Raceway, as one of his 2026 highlights. It also cited a runner-up finish in ARCA Menards Series East at Rockingham. The two results belong to distinct ARCA series and should not be conflated.

Other wins cited by RCR

In its announcement, RCR also pointed to Brown’s 2026 ASA STARS National Tour victories at New Smyrna Speedway and Five Flags Speedway, plus a CARS Tour West win at Evergreen Speedway in which it said he led all 200 laps. These are results as reported by RCR in support of its signing announcement.

His NASCAR O’Reilly Auto Parts Series debut came with another team

Brown’s first start in the NASCAR O’Reilly Auto Parts Series came on August 8, 2026, before RCR announced his 2027 seat. Racing America reported that he drove the No. 32 Distributor Wire & Cable Chevrolet for Jordan Anderson Racing Bommarito Autosport at Iowa and finished 15th. That debut was not a start for RCR: the No. 32 entry and Jordan Anderson Racing Bommarito Autosport were his 2026 debut team and car, while the announced RCR assignment is the No. 2 for 2027.

Preparation and the development case

ARCA reported that Brown used the GM Tech Center simulator in Charlotte and took part in Wise Optimization, which the preview described as GM Motorsports’ driver-development arm. Brown said simulation helped him work on brake markers, elevation changes, tire grip and track features. That account describes preparation, not proof that simulator work caused a particular finish.

A July 30, 2026 Motorsport.com profile gathered assessments from team owners and crew chiefs who emphasized Brown’s preparation, composure, adaptability and team orientation. Those are interviewees’ qualitative judgments, not measured performance statistics. Taken alongside the varied racing record and RCR’s stated development plan, they help explain why the team announced the promotion; they do not guarantee future results.

What the move means—and what remains ahead

The fast track in Brown’s story is a progression: broad grassroots experience, success in several short-track and developmental settings, a NASCAR O’Reilly Auto Parts Series debut with Jordan Anderson Racing Bommarito Autosport, and an announced full-time RCR opportunity for 2027. The next step is a scheduled season in a national series, not a completed one. Until the 2027 season is run, the announcement confirms Brown’s assignment but cannot answer how he will perform over a full campaign.
