After the January 2025 Los Angeles-area wildfires, automakers announced a mix of community donations, customer payment relief, replacement-vehicle offers, roadside help and temporary EV charging. The programs had different eligibility rules and deadlines; these are historical announcements, not confirmation that assistance remains available in October 2026.
What kinds of help did automakers announce?
The announcements covered two distinct groups: communities and relief organizations, and individual customers affected by the fires. Community support included donations, supplies and help for first responders. Customer programs included payment flexibility, vehicle incentives, towing, repairs and charging access. These were separate offers, not one shared industry program.
- Community relief: contributions to emergency-response, food, family, older-adult and animal-welfare organizations.
- Customer support: payment deferrals or hardship assistance, replacement-vehicle incentives, roadside help and collision-repair assistance.
- Operational support: temporary mobile charging, vehicle loans to responders and expedited parts shipments.
Which automakers announced customer assistance?
General Motors: charging, repairs and financial relief
In a January 22, 2025 announcement, GM said it planned to provide mobile EV charging in the Los Angeles metro region from February through April 2025. The deployment listed three GM HYDROTEC mobile charging units, each able to DC fast charge two EVs at once; three Yoshi Mobility charging trailers, also each able to charge two EVs at once; and one InCharge Energy station with five DC fast chargers. GM also described complimentary OnStar Crisis Assist for equipped vehicles; purchase or lease assistance for customers whose GM vehicles were damaged or destroyed; payment deferrals for affected customers; collision-repair deductible support; vehicle loans to the Red Cross; and expedited parts shipments. GM said financial offers were subject to qualifications and restrictions, so customers would need to confirm the applicable terms with GM.

Genesis and Hyundai: hardship support and a time-limited Genesis offer
Hyundai Capital America announced financial hardship support for eligible customers. Genesis offered qualifying owners or lessees of a vehicle damaged by the fires $2,000 toward the purchase or lease of a new 2025 Genesis. The stated offer window ran from January 7 through March 1, 2025, with delivery required by March 31, 2025; proof requirements applied. Subaru: model-dependent purchase or lease support
Subaru announced $500 to $1,000 toward a new Subaru lease or purchase, depending on model, for customers whose vehicles were damaged or lost in designated disaster areas. The offer was not a general cash payment; affected customers needed to meet the program’s geographic and other conditions. Volvo: new-vehicle support and payment flexibility
Volvo Car USA announced $1,000 toward a new Volvo for drivers whose vehicles may have been damaged or destroyed, along with payment flexibility for qualified Volvo Car Financial Services customers. Ford: Ford Credit customer service
Ford directed affected Ford Credit customers to a customer-service number in its 2025 announcement. The announcement also described Ford Philanthropy’s work with the American Red Cross, Feeding America and Team Rubicon, and contributions from Ford and Ford Philanthropy to the Los Angeles Fire Department Foundation and California Community Foundation Wildfire Recovery Fund. The amounts above are announced commitments, not a verified total of all industry aid or proof of how much was ultimately delivered. They also represent different kinds of support and should not be added together as though they were equivalent customer benefits.
Why the fine print matters
Eligibility varied by company and program. Some support was for customers with a damaged or destroyed vehicle; other programs applied only in designated disaster areas, to specific customers or models, or through participating retailers. Purchase and lease incentives had deadlines and could require proof of loss. Payment relief was tied to eligibility under a lender’s program, while services such as OnStar Crisis Assist applied only to equipped vehicles.

A January 15, 2025 LACar roundup also reported assistance from Honda, Kia, Nissan, Tesla and Toyota, including donations, payment relief, employee pricing for damaged vehicles and temporary Cybertruck use for power or connectivity. The cited programs were announced in January 2025, and the specified Genesis and GM time windows have passed. The announcements do not establish that any of these offers remains active in October 2026. If you need help now, contact the automaker or lender directly and ask whether it has a current wildfire-related program.
