But Honda has not said which production trucks or SUVs will use it. The confirmed plan is for a vehicle category—D-segment and above—not a named Ridgeline, Pilot, Passport, Odyssey, Acura, or other model.
What Honda has actually revealed
At a November 2025 technology workshop, Honda outlined a next-generation hybrid system for large-size vehicles. Its announced components are a newly developed V6 engine, newly developed drive units, and a battery pack. Honda said the system was in development for D-segment-and-above hybrid electric vehicles, with a goal of combining power and towing capability with environmental performance. Honda’s November 2025 announcement describes the technology, but does not identify a production vehicle.
Honda’s May 14, 2026 business briefing added a target launch window: large-size hybrids for North America are planned for 2029. The briefing again depicts a large-size model using the new V6, drive units, and battery pack, but does not name the model or models. Honda’s 2026 business briefing summary is the source for the timing and category.
When is Honda’s hybrid V6 coming?
Honda’s stated target is 2029 for North American launches of large-size hybrids in the D-segment and above. That is a company plan, not a confirmed on-sale date for a particular vehicle. Honda has not provided a month, a model-by-model schedule, or a guarantee that a specific truck or SUV will arrive then.

Which Honda trucks and SUVs will get the V6 hybrid?
Honda has not announced any production nameplates for this system in the materials cited. The category description does not establish that the Ridgeline, Pilot, Passport, Odyssey, an Acura model, or any other specific vehicle will use it. Treat claims naming a future application as speculation unless Honda confirms it.
That distinction matters for shoppers: the 2029 plan points to a large-vehicle hybrid program, but it is not yet a product announcement with confirmed body styles, specifications, or availability. Honda has not published pricing or a production-ready specification.

What performance has Honda targeted?
Honda’s November 2025 announcement set development targets for the next-generation large-size hybrid models, compared with current internal-combustion-engine models in the same segment:
- Fuel efficiency: more than 30% better.
- Full-throttle acceleration performance: more than 10% better.
These are Honda’s targets, not independently verified test results or certified figures for a production vehicle. Honda has not supplied EPA fuel-economy values or a specific acceleration time for the system.

How the V6 plan fits Honda’s wider hybrid rollout
Honda separately plans to begin launching next-generation hybrid models in 2027 and aims to have 15 such models globally by the end of the fiscal year ending March 31, 2030. That is a broader portfolio goal; Honda has not said that all 15 models will use the large-size V6 system. The same 2026 briefing summary describes this wider rollout.
At the May 14, 2026 briefing, Honda CEO Toshihiro Mibe said: “We have made steady progress in the development of hybrid vehicle technologies, where Honda has strengths, based on our belief that hybrid models will continue to be the key to addressing environmental challenges.” The statement refers to Honda’s overall hybrid strategy, not a specific technical detail of the V6 system. American Honda’s briefing announcement carries the quote.

What Honda has not disclosed
The public materials cited so far leave key engineering and ownership questions unanswered. Honda has not stated the engine’s displacement or cylinder-bank angle, the number of motors, battery chemistry or capacity, transmission configuration, towing rating, certified fuel economy, or price. Those details cannot be inferred reliably from Honda’s existing V6 vehicles.
Until Honda names applications and publishes specifications, the useful takeaway is limited but clear: a new V6 hybrid system is under development for large vehicles, and North American launches are targeted for 2029. The production models and their capabilities remain unannounced.
