Yes. Honda’s Prelude concept became a production car: sales of the sixth-generation Prelude began in Japan on September 5, 2025. In the United States, Honda sells it as the 2026 Prelude Hybrid, with a 200-hp hybrid system and a listed starting MSRP of $42,000. The production car carries the concept’s name and sports-coupe idea, but Honda’s announcements do not establish that the two vehicles are identical.
When did the Honda Prelude go into production?
Honda announced that Japan sales of the all-new, sixth-generation Prelude would begin September 5, 2025; that launch date has passed. Honda also set a Japan monthly sales plan of 300 units. That figure is a sales plan for Japan, not a cap on worldwide production. Honda’s September 4, 2025 Japan announcement describes the car as an e:HEV and frames its development around the idea of “Unlimited Glide.”
The concept first made its global debut at the 2023 Japan Mobility Show, then appeared in North America at the 2023 Los Angeles Auto Show. Honda has since introduced the production car, but the cited announcements do not quantify how much of the concept’s design carried over.
What is the U.S. 2026 Honda Prelude?
For the U.S. market, Honda calls the car the 2026 Prelude Hybrid. American Honda lists a starting MSRP of $42,000 on its model page, alongside 46 mpg city and 41 mpg highway. Honda announced in 2025 that the car was expected at U.S. dealerships in late fall of that year. That was the original arrival timing, not confirmation of present-day inventory. Availability should be checked with a dealer.
How the Prelude’s hybrid powertrain works
The U.S. production model combines a 2.0-liter Atkinson-cycle four-cylinder engine with two electric motors. Honda reports 200 hp of combined system output and 232 lb-ft of torque from the traction motor. The press kit lists the traction motor at 181 hp and the generator motor at 143 hp; those component ratings are not additive, so they do not total the system’s horsepower. Honda’s U.S. specifications and press materials provide the figures.

Honda S+ Shift is intended to make the hybrid feel more like a performance car with a traditional transmission. Honda describes simulated dual-clutch-transmission behavior, virtual rev-matched downshifts in S+ mode, and enhanced engine sounds. This is a simulated driving experience layered onto the hybrid system, not evidence that the Prelude has a conventional multispeed or physical dual-clutch gearbox. Chassis, cabin, and equipment
Honda says the Prelude uses Civic Type R chassis hardware, including dual-axis front suspension and adaptive dampers. That describes the hardware Honda identifies; it is not a substitute for independent driving impressions.

For the U.S. 2026 model, Honda’s press kit lists 2+2 seating, a 60/40 split-fold rear seat, a 10.2-inch digital instrument cluster, a 9-inch touchscreen with Google built-in, wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto compatibility, and an eight-speaker Bose audio system. Equipment can vary by market or model presentation, so check the current U.S. trim information when shopping.

Japan’s launch announcement confirms sales began there in September 2025 and identifies the hybrid system as e:HEV. The U.S. model has its own name, pricing, fuel-economy presentation, and specifications. Do not apply U.S. figures to the Japanese car or assume every market receives identical equipment. Current European availability and specifications are not established here.
