The Honda Odyssey Type R is a one-off 2025 SEMA build—not a Honda production model—with a Civic Type R-derived turbocharged engine, a six-speed manual transmission, and a reported 550 horsepower. Bisimoto Engineering and Jordan Distributors created the van, while the production Odyssey remains a 280-hp V6 minivan with a 10-speed automatic.

The Honda Odyssey Type R is not a Honda production model. It is a one-off 2025 SEMA build from Bisimoto Engineering and Jordan Distributors that puts a Civic Type R-derived turbocharged four-cylinder, a six-speed manual transmission, and a reported 550 horsepower inside an Odyssey minivan body.

That output figure needs an important qualification: the available coverage reports or claims 550 horsepower, but does not provide an independently verified dyno sheet, test procedure, or standardized measurement. The more accurate description is therefore a reported 550-hp Odyssey Type R conversion, not a factory-rated specification.

This is a SEMA conversion, not a factory Honda Odyssey Type R

The van debuted at the 2025 SEMA Show in Las Vegas. Bisimoto Engineering and Jordan Distributors created it as a show build and performance exercise; Honda did not announce it as a production vehicle, trim level, or dealer-orderable option.

That distinction matters because the name “Odyssey Type R” can sound like a missing Honda model. There is no regular-production Odyssey Type R that buyers can configure through a Honda dealer. This vehicle is better described as the Bisimoto/Jordan Distributors Honda Odyssey Type R SEMA build or a one-off Odyssey Type R conversion.

How extreme is it compared with a normal Odyssey?

The current U.S.-market Honda Odyssey provides a useful baseline: its 3.5-liter V6 is rated at 280 horsepower and drives through a 10-speed automatic transmission. The SEMA van replaces both the production engine and transmission arrangement.

Item Current U.S. Odyssey baseline Odyssey Type R SEMA build
Engine 3.5-liter V6 Civic Type R-derived 2.0-liter turbocharged four-cylinder
Reported output 280 horsepower 550 horsepower, as reported
Transmission 10-speed automatic Six-speed manual
Vehicle status Production minivan One-off SEMA project

In other words, this is not a lightly modified family van with a tune. It is a heavily re-engineered conversion that uses the Odyssey’s practical shape to conceal a Type R-inspired powertrain.

The engine is based on the Civic Type R powerplant

Reporting identifies the engine as a 2.0-liter turbocharged four-cylinder from the Civic Type R family. In stock Civic Type R form, the engine is described in the coverage as producing 315 horsepower. The SEMA build reportedly adds the hardware and calibration needed to target substantially more power.

  • Mitsubishi Stage 2 turbocharger: The larger turbocharger is reported as one of the major changes from the stock Type R setup.
  • Upgraded fuel system: The builders reportedly added fuel-system upgrades to support the higher-output combination.
  • Custom exhaust: A custom exhaust is also part of the reported engine package.
  • Custom Hondata tune: The calibration is reported to support both E85 and 93-octane gasoline.

The fuel-flexibility claim should not be confused with a universal plug-in solution. The sources do not disclose the complete fuel-system parts list, boost target, calibration file, or the conditions under which the two fuel maps were tested. A Hondata custom tune is relevant to the technical story because the build is reported to use one, but a retail tuning product by itself should not be credited with producing this van’s claimed output or assumed to be compatible with an ordinary Odyssey.

YOSLEAD Cabin and Engine Air Filter Kit for 2023-2026 Honda HR-V (2.0L)
  • Perfect Fit: Designed for 2016-2026 Honda Civic (2.0L), 2023-2026 HR-V (2.0L) , Only for Naturally Aspirated Gas! NOT FOR Type-R, Turbo engine and civic hatchback. This cabin and engine air filter set fits daily commuting and seasonal replacement, helping restore cleaner airflow when old filters clog. Engine air filter replace #CA12051, WA10416. Cabin air filter replace #CF11182, CP182. Confirm fitment before ordering.
  • 5-Layer Filtration: The cabin air filter features a 5-layer structure to solve poor cabin air quality caused by dust, pollen, fine particles, odors, and weak filter support. The pre-filter captures larger debris; melt-blown microfiber helps filter PM0.3, PM1, and PM2.5; coconut shell carbon adsorbs odors and gases; electrostatic fabric improves fine particle capture; the support layer helps resist deformation.
  • High Dust Capacity: Optimized pleat spacing increases dust-holding capacity while keeping airflow resistance low, helping solve weak A/C airflow, reduced ventilation, and filter blockage caused by old or low-quality cabin filters. This design supports efficient filtration and smoother HVAC air circulation, so your vehicle can maintain better cabin comfort without restricting airflow.
  • Carbon Odor Control: The large-capacity coconut shell activated carbon layer is designed to improve odor adsorption and help reduce exhaust fumes, smoke, musty smells, pet odors, and other unpleasant airborne contaminants entering the cabin. It helps drivers and passengers enjoy fresher air during city traffic, family travel, pet rides, long-distance driving, and daily use.
  • Harsh-Condition Protection: Regular replacement helps prevent accelerated engine wear, air intake restriction, heavy dust accumulation, reduced airflow, sluggish performance, and increased fuel consumption. YOSLEAD high-efficiency cabin and engine air filters are built for dusty roads, highways, heavy traffic, and construction areas. Replace every 12,000 miles or 12 months, or earlier in harsh conditions.

Why 550 horsepower is a claim, not a proven specification

The reported 550-horsepower number is the headline figure, but the available material does not include an independent dyno result. It also does not establish whether the number refers to crank horsepower or wheel horsepower, which dyno was used, what correction standard applied, or whether the test was performed on E85 or 93-octane gasoline.

For that reason, it would be misleading to present 550 horsepower in the same way as Honda’s published 280-horsepower rating for the production Odyssey. The defensible wording is “reported to make 550 horsepower” or “claimed 550 horsepower.” No quarter-mile time, top speed, curb weight, or road-test result has been established by the reviewed sources.

The automatic transmission was replaced with a six-speed manual

The engine swap is only half of the concept. The production Odyssey’s 10-speed automatic was removed and replaced with a six-speed manual transmission from the Type R parts family. The conversion is also reported to include a limited-slip differential, which is an important supporting upgrade for managing a much more powerful engine than the stock van was designed to use.

The shift mechanism was relocated into the center-console and dashboard area rather than using the Odyssey’s original automatic controls. The cabin reportedly receives a leather-wrapped shift knob and aluminum pedals, making the manual gearbox a visible part of the sleeper theme instead of a hidden mechanical modification.

Coverage also identifies Acuity shifter cables and Type R-related manual-shifter hardware in the conversion. Acuity Instruments’ Honda manual-swap hardware is relevant as a parts reference because the company documents Civic Type R shifters, cables, bushings, and Honda manual-transmission swap components. However, Acuity’s published application information does not establish that those parts directly fit a stock Odyssey. The SEMA van required a custom conversion, and fitment depends on its exact chassis, transmission, linkage arrangement, ECU strategy, and fabricated mounting work.

Could you duplicate the look with a shift knob?

For readers researching the manual-conversion look, a Honda Civic Type R shift knob is a more relevant accessory search than a generic minivan upgrade. Documented Civic Type R shifter systems support OEM Honda and Acura shift knobs, which explains why the Type R-style detail is relevant to the build.

That is an appearance and parts-reference suggestion, not a fitment promise. The SEMA Odyssey is a one-off, and compatibility for a stock Odyssey—or for another manual-swapped Odyssey—has not been established. Buyers should verify the thread, shifter assembly, transmission application, console clearance, and any adapter requirements before ordering.

What has not been disclosed

The build’s headline specifications do not amount to a complete engineering sheet. The reviewed reporting does not establish:

  • an independent dyno test or whether 550 horsepower is measured at the crank or wheels;
  • the exact boost pressure or turbocharger configuration beyond the reported Mitsubishi Stage 2 unit;
  • the complete fuel-system parts list;
  • the clutch specification and final gear ratios;
  • the final curb weight or weight distribution;
  • quarter-mile performance, top speed, or a standardized road test;
  • the complete ECU, immobilizer, wiring, cooling, and drivetrain-integration details; or
  • whether any of the conversion parts can be installed in a normal Odyssey without substantial fabrication.

Those omissions do not make the project less interesting. They simply define what can and cannot responsibly be claimed about it. It is a documented show build with a reported parts package, not a published aftermarket conversion kit with guaranteed instructions and performance data.

Why the Odyssey Type R works as a sleeper

The appeal is the contradiction. An Odyssey is associated with passengers, cargo, sliding doors, and family duty. This one reportedly combines that silhouette with a high-output Type R engine, a manual transmission, a limited-slip differential, and a driver-focused cabin treatment.

The manual gearbox is especially important to the concept. A powerful engine alone could make the van quick, but replacing the automatic with a six-speed manual turns it into an enthusiast statement. It gives the driver a physical connection to the transplanted powertrain and makes the vehicle feel deliberately built rather than merely tuned.

  • Reusable Design:The reusable High Flow Air Intake Filter uses Non-woven Dry Filter, allows clean air to continue to flow into your engine, requiring cleaning only once every 100,000 miles under normal highway driving conditions.

It also explains why the project cannot be treated as a normal Odyssey accessory package. The engine, transmission, controls, electronics, fuel system, exhaust, shifter, and supporting systems have to function together. The show van’s appeal comes from that complete re-engineering, not from one bolt-on part.

Can you buy one from Honda?

No. Honda’s production Odyssey is not offered with a manual transmission or a Type R engine. The 280-horsepower V6 and 10-speed automatic remain the relevant production baseline, while the 550-horsepower figure and six-speed gearbox belong to this specific Bisimoto Engineering and Jordan Distributors project.

Someone attempting a similar build would need to solve engine and transmission mounting, driveshaft and axle integration, shifter placement, clutch hydraulics, wiring and immobilizer communication, cooling, exhaust routing, fuel delivery, brake and chassis demands, and emissions or registration requirements that vary by location. The SEMA vehicle should not be interpreted as evidence that a comparable conversion is straightforward, street-legal everywhere, or supported by Honda.

The bottom line

The Honda Odyssey Type R is a real one-off SEMA build, and its combination of a Civic Type R-derived turbo engine and six-speed manual makes it an unusually convincing sleeper concept. It is reportedly capable of 550 horsepower after turbo, fuel-system, exhaust, and tuning work, but that number remains a reported claim rather than an independently verified dyno specification.

Most importantly, it is not a factory Honda model and not a configuration available at a dealership. It is a custom Bisimoto/Jordan Distributors conversion that demonstrates how far a familiar minivan platform can be pushed when practicality is combined with Type R hardware and show-car-level fabrication.
