Honda has confirmed a production 400-class inline-four sport bike—but it is called the CBR400R FOUR E-Clutch, not CBR400RR. Honda’s announcement and Japanese sales plan make the motorcycle real; they do not yet establish availability outside Japan. Its closest current comparison is Kawasaki’s Ninja ZX-4R family, although the published figures alone cannot tell us which bike is quicker or better to ride.
From concept to production: what Honda confirmed
Honda showed the CBR400R FOUR E-Clutch concept at the Osaka Motorcycle Show on March 20, 2026, then announced the production model and a Japanese sales plan in July. Honda Dream sales in Japan were scheduled to begin September 18, 2026. The production name is CBR400R FOUR E-Clutch; “CBR400RR” is not Honda’s announced name. Honda’s July 10, 2026 announcement and its March concept announcement establish that timeline.
The July announcement is specific to Japan. It does not confirm a U.S., European, Indian, or other-market launch, so prospective buyers elsewhere should treat the model’s local availability as unannounced.
What Honda’s specifications say
Honda describes the motorcycle as a full-fairing road-sport model sharing a platform with the CB400 SUPER FOUR E-Clutch. Its newly designed engine is a liquid-cooled, four-stroke, DOHC, four-valve-per-cylinder inline-four.

These are manufacturer-published specifications, not independent test results. The WMTC fuel-consumption figure is tied to that test cycle and Honda’s stated one-rider condition; it should not be treated as a guaranteed real-world economy figure.
How the Honda E-Clutch works—and what is standard
Honda says its E-Clutch system is standard and coordinated with throttle-by-wire. It can manage clutch operation when starting, shifting, and stopping without requiring the rider to operate the clutch lever. Riders can still select riding modes. That describes clutch control, not an automatic transmission: Honda lists a six-speed gearbox.

Other standard equipment includes a 5-inch full-color TFT display with Honda RoadSync and a USB Type-C socket. Honda presents the E-Clutch as part of the riding experience; the announcement does not establish that it makes the bike faster, easier for every rider, or superior to a conventional clutch in independent testing. Honda’s design description says the bike “pursues a sport-riding experience that transforms daily commuting into a special moment”—the manufacturer’s intent, not a verified outcome.
How it compares with Kawasaki’s Ninja ZX-4R
Kawasaki’s 2026 U.S. listing identifies the ZX-4R and ZX-4RR. The retrieved official indexed specification for the U.S.-market ZX-4RR gives 56 hp at 11,500 rpm and a $9,999 U.S. MSRP. Kawasaki’s page could not be directly retrieved, so those indexed details warrant more caution than Honda’s accessible release. They are ZX-4RR-specific and should not be generalized to every ZX-4R trim or market. Kawasaki’s U.S. ZX-4R listing is the relevant model reference.

Honda’s 58 PS and Kawasaki’s 56 hp use different units, so they are not directly comparable as written. Nor are the prices a like-for-like comparison: they are manufacturer list prices for different markets, currencies, and models. Honda’s Japanese price excludes some insurance, tax, and registration costs. Neither announcement establishes a direct price comparison for another country.

The confirmed Honda gives riders another modern 399 cc inline-four sport-bike option, with clutch automation as its distinguishing published feature. But specification sheets do not settle how the motorcycles compare in acceleration, handling, comfort, heat management, or everyday usability. No independent head-to-head test is established here, and the available Honda announcement does not confirm sales beyond Japan. Riders considering either model should check local availability, exact trim, and market-specific specifications with the manufacturer or a local dealer.
