Honda has canceled development and planned market launches of three electric vehicles: the Honda 0 SUV, Honda 0 Saloon and Acura RSX. In a March 12, 2026 announcement, the company said launching them amid a slowing U.S. EV market and other business pressures could lead to further long-term losses. The decision covers these three planned models—not all Honda EV development.
Which Honda EVs were canceled?
Honda said it had canceled development and market launch of the Honda 0 SUV, Honda 0 Saloon and Acura RSX, vehicles it had planned for production in the U.S. The announcement described the plans as North American production. None of the three reached production or went on sale.
The 0 SUV and 0 Saloon were part of Honda’s 0 Series. The Acura RSX was a separate planned electric model. Honda’s earlier CES announcement had presented prototypes and outlined North American launches in 2026, with other global markets to follow; those plans were superseded by the cancellation.
Why did Honda cancel them?
Honda cited a combination of market and business pressures. It said EV-market expansion in the United States was slowing, while changing U.S. policy and tariffs were affecting the profitability of its gasoline and hybrid businesses. In Asia, Honda said its products had become less competitive as it allocated resources to EV development and newer EV makers competed with faster development cycles, software-defined features and advanced driver-assistance systems.

Honda’s stated conclusion was that starting production and sales in that environment could deepen losses over the long term. As the company put it, “Honda determined that starting production and sales of these three models in current business environment where the demand for EVs is declining significantly would likely result in further losses over the long term.” This is Honda’s explanation for its decision, not independent proof of a broader market forecast.
What do the financial estimates mean?
Honda’s March 12, 2026 estimates accompanied a broader strategic reassessment, including investment impairments related to China. They are preliminary company estimates for the fiscal year ending March 31, 2026, not a final accounting of the cost of canceling these three vehicles alone.

The figures describe different parts or scopes of the reassessment and should not be treated as three separate bills to add together. Honda did not present the total as a standalone cancellation charge for the 0 SUV, 0 Saloon and RSX.
What is Honda doing instead?
Honda said it would strengthen its hybrid lineup, reallocate resources and streamline its EV lineup in response to North American market conditions. It also said it would continue electrification flexibly over the long term. That signals a shift in emphasis, not an announcement that Honda is ending EV development altogether.

What happened to the planned 0 SUV launch?
Before the cancellation, Honda had planned to introduce the 0 SUV in North America in the first half of 2026 and had identified its Ohio EV Hub as the production site. The 0 SUV was described as the first 0 Series vehicle intended for that facility. Those were historical plans; Honda’s March 2026 cancellation means the scheduled launch will not proceed as announced.
