Honda has announced a new 501cc heritage roadster for India called the CB 500, positioning it in a segment where Royal Enfield is a major competitor. But “just launched” overstates what Honda has confirmed: the announcement names the bike and its variants, while the model’s retail launch date, price and availability remain undisclosed in the cited official materials.
What is Honda’s new CB 500?
Honda Motorcycle & Scooter India (HMSI) announced the CB 500 on July 24, 2026, as part of a 10-product portfolio for India. Honda said seven products in the portfolio were all-new and three were refreshed. It described the CB 500 as “The Honda Heritage Roadster,” with a 501cc single-cylinder, air-cooled engine and an oil cooler. Honda’s stated aims include heritage styling, everyday usability and a torque-rich riding feel. Honda’s portfolio announcement is the source for those details.
Three announced variants
- Alloy
- Spoke tubeless
- Spoke tubeless with graphics
Those are the variant labels Honda announced; the announcement does not provide a complete equipment breakdown for each one.
Has Honda launched the CB 500 in India?
Not according to the cited official materials. Honda said the products would launch in phases and that model-specific timing, pricing and availability would be shared closer to launch. A follow-up HMSI article published on July 30, 2026, also discusses the portfolio announcement rather than confirming a CB 500 retail launch. HMSI’s announcement and its follow-up article do not give a CB 500 showroom date.

That distinction matters for buyers: an announced model is not necessarily orderable or available at dealerships. Honda’s cited announcement also does not state the CB 500’s price, power, torque, kerb weight or full equipment list. Those figures should not be inferred from another Honda motorcycle.
How does it compare with Royal Enfield?
Honda’s announcement makes the CB 500 a plausible competitor to Royal Enfield’s roadsters, but it does not name Royal Enfield or establish a direct head-to-head match. The available figures allow a limited comparison with two different Royal Enfield models: the India-market Hunter 350 and the Guerrilla 450 APEX announced for EMEA markets. They are context, not interchangeable rivals.

The Hunter figures are manufacturer-published specifications on Royal Enfield India’s Hunter 350 page, accessed October 8, 2026, not independent test results. The Guerrilla details and price come from Royal Enfield Media’s April 23, 2026 release, which specifies EMEA markets.
What the comparison can—and cannot—tell you
The CB 500’s announced displacement is larger than the Hunter 350’s, but displacement alone does not establish which bike is faster, more powerful, more comfortable or better suited to a particular rider. Honda has not published the CB 500’s output or weight in the cited announcement, so those comparisons cannot yet be made on an equivalent basis. The Guerrilla 450 APEX is a higher-output, sportier example from Royal Enfield, but its EMEA-market release does not establish Indian availability or make it a confirmed direct rival to the Honda.

Honda’s language frames the CB 500 as a heritage-styled roadster for everyday use. That puts it in competitive territory where Royal Enfield sells roadsters, but the available announcements do not show a Honda claim of targeting Royal Enfield, nor evidence of sales displacement, market-share loss or comparative reliability.

Before judging the CB 500 against a Royal Enfield or deciding whether to buy, look for Honda’s model-specific retail details. The announcement does not settle the questions that most affect a purchase decision:
