The Honda Africa Twin is designed to cover long highway stretches and rougher trails, but the best fit depends on which version you choose. For the U.S. 2025 lineup, the standard Africa Twin leans further toward off-road use with a 21-inch front wheel; the Adventure Sports ES is more road-focused, with a 19-inch front wheel and electronic suspension. Both offer cruise control, and both are available with a conventional manual transmission or Honda’s dual-clutch transmission (DCT).
What the 2025 U.S. Africa Twin offers
Honda’s standard Africa Twin pairs a 1084cc liquid-cooled parallel-twin engine with a six-speed manual gearbox. Honda describes the engine as delivering torque smoothly through the RPM range and as suited to highway cruising as well as off-road riding. That is the manufacturer’s description, not an independent performance measurement.
| Standard Africa Twin specification | Honda’s published figure |
|---|---|
| Engine displacement | 1084cc (Honda Powersports, 2025) |
| Curb weight, manual | 510 lb (Honda Powersports, 2025) |
| Curb weight, DCT | 535 lb (Honda Powersports, 2025) |
| Fuel capacity | 5.0 gal (Honda Powersports, 2025) |
| Front suspension travel | 9 in (standard DCT specification; Honda Powersports, 2025) |
| Rear suspension travel | 8.7 in (standard DCT specification; Honda Powersports, 2025) |
These are manufacturer specifications, not independent measurements of acceleration, top speed, fuel range, or real-world comfort. The 5.0-gallon capacity describes how much fuel the tank holds; it does not establish a riding range, which depends on conditions and consumption.
Is the Africa Twin comfortable for long rides?
Standard Africa Twin
Honda equips all Africa Twin models with cruise control. For the standard trim, Honda highlights a narrow seat and an athletic riding position. Those features describe the intended design, but do not establish that the seat or posture will suit every rider on a long day.

Adventure Sports ES
Honda describes the Adventure Sports ES seat as designed for greater comfort on long on-road rides. The model also has electronic suspension and electronic preload adjustment, giving it a different suspension setup from the standard bike’s off-road-oriented configuration. These are equipment and design distinctions, not proof that one trim is more comfortable for every rider.
Seat reach, rider height, luggage load, and suspension setup all affect fit. The cited Honda specifications do not answer those personal fit questions, so a prospective rider should assess the actual motorcycle and setup rather than assume the published comfort descriptions guarantee a particular experience.

How does the Africa Twin perform off road?
Honda positions the standard Africa Twin as the deeper off-road choice. Its 21-inch front wheel is described by Honda as better suited to off-road performance and deeper travel. Honda also lists selectable riding modes, Honda Selectable Torque Control, selectable ABS, long-travel suspension, and a dry-sump layout among the standard model’s features.
The Adventure Sports ES takes a more road-focused approach, using a 19-inch front wheel, wider rims, and electronic suspension. The wheel and suspension differences help explain the trims’ intended uses; they do not amount to independent proof of traction, comfort, or durability on a particular route. Honda’s feature and frame descriptions should be read as manufacturer information, not as third-party ruggedness testing.

Standard Africa Twin vs. Adventure Sports ES
| Choice | Standard Africa Twin | Adventure Sports ES |
|---|---|---|
| Intended emphasis | Honda positions it for more off-road travel | Honda positions it as more road-focused |
| Front wheel | 21 in | 19 in |
| Suspension | Long-travel setup; Honda lists 9 in front and 8.7 in rear travel for the standard DCT specification | Electronic suspension with electronic preload adjustment |
| Comfort features described by Honda | Narrow seat and athletic riding position | Seat designed for comfort on long on-road rides |
Choose based on the riding you expect to do most: the standard model’s 21-inch front wheel aligns with Honda’s off-road emphasis, while the Adventure Sports ES equipment and 19-inch front wheel reflect its road-oriented positioning. Neither choice settles questions of rider fit or loaded suspension behavior.

The standard model and Adventure Sports ES are offered with a conventional six-speed manual or DCT. The manual uses a conventional clutch and gearbox. Honda’s DCT can shift automatically or be operated manually with paddle shifters, so riders can choose between automatic shifting and manual gear selection without a conventional clutch lever.

The transmission choice is separate from the terrain decision: compare the manual and DCT versions of the trim you are considering, and account for the listed weight difference on the standard model—Honda gives 510 lb for the manual and 535 lb for the DCT, both as 2025 U.S. model specifications.
What to know about tires and puncture preparation
Honda says tubeless tires are standard across the Africa Twin variations and notes that flat repairs are easier with tubeless tires. A tubeless motorcycle tire repair kit may be useful to carry, but check that any kit is suitable for the exact tire and motorcycle configuration. Honda’s statement does not endorse a particular kit.

What the published figures do—and do not—tell you
The 2025 U.S. specifications establish engine size, transmission options, weight for the standard manual and DCT, fuel capacity, and selected suspension figures. Honda’s descriptions explain the intended distinction between the standard model and Adventure Sports ES. They do not provide independent top-speed or acceleration results, horsepower-at-wheel measurements, or a comparative comfort test. Treat claims about speed, comfort, and toughness accordingly: the available evidence supports a description of design and equipment, not a measured verdict on how the bike will perform for every rider.
