Hobby BEACHY 420+: A Four-Berth Caravan That Transforms for Sleeping

The Hobby BEACHY 420+ turns its front seating into two bunks and its rear lounge into a double bed. Here’s what its optional WC wall does—and what the oceanfront-bunkhouse description doesn’t mean.

The Hobby BEACHY 420+ is a four-berth caravan whose front seating converts into two bunks and whose rear lounge becomes a double bed. An optional foldable wall can screen off a portable toilet or create a dressing area. “Oceanfront bunkhouse” is a description of its coastal-inspired style and flexible layout—not a claim that it is built for beach driving or includes a waterfront pitch.

How the BEACHY 420+ converts from lounge to beds

The 420+ divides its sleeping spaces between the front and rear, so the layout can accommodate four people without leaving the front as a permanent bunk area.

Front: seating or two bunks

Hobby describes the front as a two-person face-to-face dinette or sofa that converts into two bunks. The upper bunk measures 1.97 × 0.69 m and the lower bunk 1.93 × 0.79 m. Each has a stated maximum load of 100 kg; a guard and ladder are standard, according to Hobby’s announcement.

Rear: lounge or double bed

The rear lounge can be arranged as face-to-face seating or converted to a U-shaped lounge using its two tables, one of which can become a bench. The seating also converts into the larger sleeping surface: a 2.00 × 1.70 m double bed.

In practical terms, the front bunks make the layout useful when separate berths matter, while the rear bed is the roomier sleeping surface. Whether the front is better left as bunks or returned to a dinette or sofa depends on how the occupants use the caravan during the day.

Does it have a bathroom?

No built-in bathroom is described. The optional multifunction wall can create a temporary WC enclosure, a dressing area, or a partition between parts of the caravan. Hobby says a portable Porta Potti can be stored in the wardrobe/sideboard arrangement. The wall changes how the interior space is screened; it does not turn the 420+ into a caravan with a fixed bathroom.

If considering a portable camping toilet, verify its dimensions and fit for the intended storage space. Hobby’s materials do not identify a specific toilet model or establish compatibility with every portable toilet.

What the launch-era specifications and equipment say

New Atlas reported that the 420+ has a 426 cm body on a 569 cm chassis and a gross vehicle weight rating of 1,000 kg. For comparison, its report gave the standard 420 a 432 cm body on the same chassis length. These are reported launch details; check the specification for the particular model year and market before assessing towing, payload, or storage fit.

New Atlas also described a simple kitchen with a 39 L slide-out electric cool box, a sink supplied by a submersible pump from a 25 L fresh-water tank, a wastewater roller tank, and worktop space. Buyers were expected to bring their own portable stove or grill. Treat those equipment details as launch-report information, not confirmation of the current specification in every market.

Price and availability: January 2025 figures only

New Atlas reported a January 2025 launch starting price of €19,340 including VAT. It listed the optional multifunction wall at €895 and the portable toilet at €343, giving a reported total of €20,578 for that configuration. Those are historical launch prices, not a current dealer quote or confirmation of present availability; check with a local Hobby dealer for current market-specific details. The report said deliveries were expected to begin in June following the January launch.

Who should consider this layout?

  • Families or groups needing separate sleeping places: the front bunks and rear double bed provide four stated berths, subject to the bunk load limits and the occupants’ fit.
  • Travelers who want daytime seating: the front can serve as a dinette or sofa when the bunks are not needed, while the rear has multiple lounge arrangements.
  • Campers deciding about a toilet: the optional wall and portable toilet provide a screened, temporary arrangement; compare that with relying on campground facilities.
  • Anyone assessing a tow vehicle or campsite: confirm the relevant model-year and regional specifications, then check towing limits, payload, storage dimensions, and destination access for the specific vehicle and trip. The “surfy” styling is not evidence of off-road or beach-driving capability.

What “oceanfront bunkhouse” really means

The phrase captures the BEACHY 420+’s coastal design identity and its convertible interior: it can shift between lounge, bunk, and double-bed arrangements, with an optional partition for privacy. It does not mean that the caravan is designed to drive on sand, comes with a bathroom, or includes an oceanfront site.
