What the HIMO H1 is—and what it is not
New Atlas described the H1 as “technically more of a tiny electric scooter than an ebike,” because its 180 W rear motor supplies the drive power and it has no pedal drive. Riders use foot pegs rather than bicycle pedals. That distinction matters: the “electric bike” label in the 2020 headline can lead readers to expect a conventional pedal-assist bicycle, which the H1 is not. New Atlas’s 2020 report is the source for that characterization.
How compact is it when folded?
New Atlas reported folded dimensions of 12.6 × 18 × 9 inches (32 × 46 × 23 cm) and a weight of 32 lb (14.5 kg). Those measurements make the H1 unusually small when packed, but carrying it is still a substantial lift; the dimensions alone do not make it practical to wear like a light backpack. The same 14.5 kg weight appears in the HIMO H1 user guide. The guide lists a 36 V, 7.5 Ah battery.
What performance did HIMO and the 2020 report state?
New Atlas reported a 180 W rear motor, a top speed of up to 11 mph (18 km/h), and more than 18 miles (30 km) of range from a 7.5 Ah battery. Those are reported product figures, not independently verified test results. The user guide lists a maximum speed of 18 km/h and a range below 30 km, with its range estimate based on a 75 kg load, approximately 25°C, a flat road, no wind, and a steady 15 km/h in energy-saving mode. The guide cautions that actual range varies. These differently worded range claims should not be read as a guaranteed distance for every rider or route.

How much can it carry?
The sources give conflicting load figures, so there is no single confirmed limit in the material available here. New Atlas reported a claimed rider capacity of 200 lb (91 kg), while the user guide lists a maximum load of 75 kg. Because the figures differ, check the applicable manual for the exact model and market before relying on either limit; do not combine them into a higher capacity.
Where did the “$500” price come from?
In March 2020, New Atlas reported an Indiegogo early-bird pledge starting at US$469 and an estimated retail price of US$699. These were campaign-era figures, not confirmation of a present-day price or a continuing offer. The available sources do not establish current H1 inventory, regional pricing, or a verified listing for this exact model. HIMO’s distributor information describes the company and direct sales, but does not confirm current H1 stock. HIMO’s “About HIMO” page is not proof that the H1 is currently available.

Is it a practical city ride?
Its small folded size and electric drive may suit a rider prioritizing compact storage over conventional bicycle riding. But it is not a replacement for every city-bike use: it has no pedals, its reported top speed is 18 km/h, the manual’s stated range is conditional, and its 14.5 kg weight remains significant when carried. The user guide also specifies climbing ability below 5 degrees, a relevant constraint for hilly routes. Current purchase availability and local operating rules are not established by the cited sources, so confirm both before making plans around this model.
