There is no defensible performance or value winner in the Hero Xtreme 160R 4V versus Yamaha YZF-R2 comparison yet. Hero MotoCorp publishes a full specification set for the Xtreme 160R 4V, while Yamaha Motor India’s accessed e-shop confirms an “R2” booking listing but does not provide a technical sheet or establish the complete model designation as “YZF-R2.” Until Yamaha publishes the R2’s engine, equipment, price and variant details for the relevant market, treating the two motorcycles as a normal head-to-head would require guessing.
What is confirmed about the Hero Xtreme 160R 4V?
Hero’s official India material documents the Xtreme 160R 4V, including a 2026 brochure. The figures below are manufacturer specifications, not results from an independent road or dynamometer test.

What Yamaha has actually published for the R2 listing
Yamaha Motor India’s e-shop contains an R2 product listing with colors and a ₹10,000 booking amount. The accessed listing does not include a technical specification sheet, complete model name, variant breakdown, retail price or the information needed to compare performance and equipment with Hero’s motorcycle.
#1 Best Overall
- 2 Visors Included: Clear + Smoked and 1 Neck Scarf for Winter Use
- Streamlined Aerodynamic Design Reduces Wind Noise and Drag
- Advanced and Lightweight Durable ABS Shell
- Quick Release Clasp and Strap and Removable Inner Lining Pads
- Meets or Exceeds FMVSS-218 and DOT Safety Standards
That leaves several basic questions unresolved: engine displacement and configuration, power and torque, gearbox, brakes and ABS, suspension, dimensions, kerb weight, seat height, fuel-tank capacity, warranty terms, service requirements and final pricing. A booking listing alone is not enough evidence to infer any of those details.
Do not substitute Yamaha R15 V4 specifications
Yamaha’s 2025 R15 V4 brochure documents a separate motorcycle. It lists a 155 cc engine, 13.5 kW (18.4 PS) at 10,000 rpm, 14.2 Nm at 7,500 rpm, a six-speed transmission, dual-channel ABS and an 11-litre tank. Those numbers belong to the R15 V4 and must not be presented as R2 specifications.

Yamaha’s global R-Series lineage page lists models such as the R1, R7, R3, R25, R15 and R125, but does not list an R2. That omission does not by itself disprove an India-market R2 listing; it simply means the listing needs direct technical confirmation before a comparison can be completed.

- Confirm identity: obtain Yamaha’s official brochure or product specification page showing the complete model name, model year and market.
- Match variants: identify the exact trim, colors and equipment included in each quotation.
- Compare prices in one location: record ex-showroom and on-road prices in the same city, including RTO charges, insurance, registration fees and any current offer.
- Compare mechanical specifications: place displacement, maximum power, maximum torque, rpm, transmission and claimed fuel capacity on the same table.
- Check safety equipment: verify front and rear brake type, ABS configuration, lighting and any electronic rider aids for each variant.
- Check daily usability: compare seat height, riding position, suspension, kerb weight, tank size, pillion provisions and storage practicality from official data and an in-person inspection.
- Price ownership: request written warranty coverage, scheduled-service intervals, labor and consumable estimates, parts availability and the nearest authorized workshop.
- Ride both: a test ride is the appropriate way to assess reach to the ground, clutch effort, gearbox feel, heat, vibration and comfort; published output figures cannot answer those questions.
Price and availability: why a local quote matters
Hero states that its on-road price varies with city, RTO charges and insurance choices. Yamaha’s R2 booking amount does not establish the final purchase price or delivery terms. Stock, introductory offers, registration costs and insurance can change by location and date, so use current written quotations from authorized dealers in the same city. The evidence available here is India-market focused and should not be generalized to another country.
What a buyer can decide today
- The Hero Xtreme 160R 4V is the only motorcycle in this comparison with a documented, current manufacturer specification set.
- The Yamaha R2 listing demonstrates that Yamaha is accepting bookings through its India e-shop, but it does not yet provide enough technical information for a specification, performance or value verdict.
- R15 V4 data cannot fill the R2 evidence gap.
- Do not pay a booking amount or cancel an alternative purchase based solely on an assumed R2 engine or price; ask the dealer for the official brochure, variant code, delivery terms and refund conditions.
Equipment you should verify before delivery
Regardless of which model becomes available, inspect the supplied motorcycle against the written quotation. Confirm the VIN and model year, ABS operation, tire sizes and date codes, lighting, instrument functions, included accessories, insurance policy and warranty documents. For protective gear, choose a properly fitted helmet carrying the safety certification required in your jurisdiction; a generic motorcycle-helmet listing is not evidence that a particular helmet fits every rider or motorcycle.
