The 992.2 is the refreshed version of the 992-generation Porsche 911, introduced for the 2025 model year. Its familiar shape remains, but revised lighting, cooling and aerodynamic details distinguish it from the earlier car. The bigger mechanical change is under the skin: the Carrera keeps an updated 3.0-liter twin-turbo engine, while the Carrera GTS adopts Porsche’s new T-Hybrid system.
What changed in the 992.2’s design?
Porsche’s update is evolutionary rather than a new silhouette. The most obvious changes are at the front and rear, with functional airflow revisions tied to cooling and aerodynamics.

Front: new lighting and larger cooling openings
Model-specific front aprons give the refreshed 911 a revised face. Porsche says all front lighting functions are integrated into the standard Matrix LED headlights, which retain the familiar four-point design and make room for larger cooling vents. On GTS models, vertically arranged active cooling flaps and concealed bypass flaps work with adaptive underbody diffusers. Porsche says these airflow paths close when cooling demand is low to favor aerodynamics and open when more cooling is needed.

At the back, Porsche describes a redesigned light strip with an integrated light arc and PORSCHE lettering, along with a revised rear grille and repositioned license plate. The result is a set of recognizable but updated details rather than a wholesale change to the 911’s proportions.

How the Carrera and GTS powertrains differ
The standard Carrera and Carrera GTS take different approaches for 2025. The Carrera retains a 3.0-liter twin-turbo boxer engine with revised intercooling and turbochargers derived from the previous GTS. The GTS moves to a new 3.6-liter boxer engine and a lightweight T-Hybrid system.
2025 Carrera: updated 3.0-liter twin-turbo
In its May 2024 U.S. announcement, Porsche Cars North America listed the Carrera at 388 hp and up to 331 lb-ft. Porsche quoted 0–60 mph in 3.9 seconds, or 3.7 seconds with optional Sport Chrono, and a 183-mph top track speed. Porsche’s international press kit instead lists 394 PS and 450 Nm, 0–100 km/h in 4.1 seconds (3.9 seconds with Sport Chrono), and 294 km/h. These are market-specific figures from Porsche; keep each set in its stated units rather than combining them.
2025 Carrera GTS: Porsche’s T-Hybrid
The GTS is the first production Porsche to use the company’s lightweight T-Hybrid system. Its new 3.6-liter six-cylinder boxer engine is paired with an electrically driven turbocharger and an electric motor integrated into a strengthened eight-speed PDK transmission. Porsche says the transmission motor contributes up to 40 kW and the eTurbo can generate up to 11 kW from exhaust flow. Both connect to a 400-volt battery with up to 1.9 kWh of gross capacity. Porsche does not present this system as a plug-in hybrid.

The international press kit lists 541 PS, 610 Nm, 0–100 km/h in 3.0 seconds and 312 km/h. Porsche’s 2024 engineering press kit says the system adds 50 kg compared with the predecessor.
Frank Moser, Vice-President of the 911 and 718 model lines, said: “We developed and tested various ideas and approaches to decide on a hybrid system that optimally suits the 911. The result is a unique powertrain that is well-integrated into the overall concept and enhances the performance significantly,” That is Porsche’s description of the system, not an independent assessment.

Porsche’s figures describe its own specifications and performance claims. They do not establish real-world fuel economy, independent road-test performance, ownership experience or reliability. For a buying decision, distinguish the standard Carrera’s revised combustion powertrain from the GTS’s electrified turbo-and-transmission system, then compare body style, drivetrain, equipment and current local pricing.
