These are population-level estimates, not a guaranteed value for a particular car.

Why the published percentages differ
The model-specific page describes an analysis of more than 15 million vehicles and estimates depreciation from new and used prices while accounting for automaker and vehicle segment. The 2026 study uses a defined period of used-car sales and inflation-adjusted 2026-dollar MSRPs to model the difference between MSRP and used pricing. Differences in method and cohort can produce slightly different results.
How the Model 3 compares in the 2026 study
In the 2026 study, the Model 3’s 54.6% depreciation is below the 57.2% average for electric vehicles and above the 41.8% average for all vehicles. iSeeCars Executive Analyst Karl Brauer said, “This recent reduction in 5-year depreciation rates suggests rising used car demand and/or insufficient supply over the past 12 months.”

The model-specific page offers a separate comparison: it reports 53.6% depreciation for the Model 3, 53.8% for its luxury electric compact category, 40.0% for sedans and 41.7% for all cars. Those figures belong to that page’s analysis; they should not be mixed with the 2026 study’s category averages.
How to read the Model 3’s resale-value award
Kelley Blue Book named the Model 3 a 2026 Electric Car Best Resale Value category winner. That award is based on projected residual values for 2026 model-year vehicles in KBB’s January/February 2026 Residual Value Guide. KBB says its projections assume an average-condition vehicle with 75,000 miles after five years. It is a forward-looking projection for a new model-year cohort, not a measured value or promise for any specific five-year-old Model 3.

KBB also projected that an average 2026 model-year vehicle across the market would retain 45% of its value after five years. That is a broad market projection, not a Model 3-specific estimate.

The roughly 54% figure is a useful benchmark, but it cannot establish the value of your particular car. Mileage, condition, trim, equipment and local market conditions affect an individual valuation.
