How do the nine 2025 4Runner grades differ?
Each 2025 Toyota 4Runner grade is aimed at a different balance of price, road manners, cabin equipment, hybrid power and off-road hardware.
| Grade | Available configurations | Launch-price range | What the grade is for |

What does the 2025 4Runner SR5 include?
SR5 is the entry-grade 2025 4Runner and the logical choice for buyers who want the new body-on-frame platform at the lowest launch price. The 4×2 SR5 costs $42,220 including destination, while the 4×4 SR5 costs $44,220. Both use the gasoline i-FORCE powertrain.

The $2,000 launch-price difference between the 4×2 and 4×4 versions is the key decision: 4×4 adds capability and low-range gearing, while 4×2 avoids paying for a drivetrain the buyer may not use.
What is the 2025 4Runner TRD Sport?
TRD Sport is the road-oriented performance grade, available as a $48,700 4×2 or a $50,700 4×4. Toyota distinguishes TRD Sport with sport-tuned suspension and 20-inch machined-finish alloy wheels.
TRD Sport makes more sense for shoppers who want a more distinctive, road-focused 4Runner than an SR5 but do not need the trail equipment of a TRD Off-Road. The 4×4 version costs $2,000 more at launch and uses the same gasoline i-FORCE powertrain.
What does TRD Sport Premium add?
TRD Sport Premium adds comfort and technology to the TRD Sport formula. Launch prices are $54,060 for the 4×2 and $56,060 for the 4×4, both with the gasoline i-FORCE powertrain.
Toyota highlights SofTex-trimmed heated and ventilated front seats, a hands-free power liftgate and an available 14-inch multimedia display for the premium configuration. TRD Sport Premium is therefore the road-oriented choice for buyers who want more cabin equipment without moving to the comfort-focused Limited or the specialized trail grades.

What is the 2025 4Runner Trailhunter?
Trailhunter is the factory overlanding grade, and its 4×4 i-FORCE MAX launch price is $68,350. Trailhunter is intended for buyers who want an integrated platform for extended outdoor travel rather than simply the fastest or most aggressive trail setup.
Trailhunter equipment includes ARB roof-rack hardware, Old Man Emu shocks, 33-inch Toyo Open Country all-terrain tires, rock rails, high-strength steel skid plates, auxiliary switches and a 2,400-watt AC inverter. The equipment list is oriented toward carrying gear, protecting the underbody and supporting a self-contained campsite or expedition-style setup.
Buyers who want to build a less expensive 4Runner over time can review ARB accessories for a 2025 4Runner as a category reference. Compatibility, roof-load limits, installation requirements and current availability should be verified for the exact vehicle before purchase; an aftermarket build is not automatically equivalent to factory Trailhunter equipment.

Which 2025 Toyota 4Runner models are hybrid?

Which 2025 Toyota 4Runner models have four-wheel drive?
Every 2025 4Runner configuration labeled 4×4 has four-wheel drive, while the 4×2 configurations do not. The 4×4 lineup includes the SR5, TRD Sport, TRD Sport Premium, TRD Off-Road, TRD Off-Road Premium, Limited, Platinum, Trailhunter and TRD Pro, although some grades offer 4×4 only.
The 4×2 choices are the SR5, TRD Sport, TRD Sport Premium and Limited. The 4×4 SR5, TRD Sport, TRD Sport Premium, TRD Off-Road, TRD Off-Road Premium and gasoline Limited use the i-FORCE gasoline powertrain. All six i-FORCE MAX configurations are 4×4.
Toyota says the 2025 4Runner is available with 2WD, part-time 4WD or full-time 4WD. Four-wheel-drive models use an electronically controlled two-speed transfer case with high and low ranges, Active Traction Control and an automatic limited-slip differential. An electronic locking rear differential is standard on TRD Off-Road, TRD Pro and Trailhunter.
How do the 2025 4Runner i-FORCE and i-FORCE MAX powertrains compare?
The gasoline i-FORCE is the standard powertrain, while i-FORCE MAX adds electric assistance and more output.
| Powertrain | Engine and transmission | Output | Battery |
|---|---|---|---|
| i-FORCE gasoline | Turbocharged 2.4-liter four-cylinder with an eight-speed automatic | 278 horsepower; 317 lb.-ft. of torque | Not applicable |
| i-FORCE MAX hybrid | Turbocharged 2.4-liter four-cylinder plus electric motor integrated into the eight-speed transmission | Up to 326 horsepower; 465 lb.-ft. of torque | 1.87-kWh nickel-metal-hydride pack |
According to Toyota (2024), the standard i-FORCE powertrain produces 278 horsepower and 317 lb.-ft. of torque. According to Toyota (2024), i-FORCE MAX produces up to 326 horsepower and 465 lb.-ft. of torque. The hybrid’s higher output is available only in the more expensive 4×4 configurations listed above; the dossier does not include independent acceleration, fuel-economy or towing tests.
What capability and standard equipment does every 2025 4Runner offer?
The 2025 4Runner combines a body-on-frame truck platform with standard driver-assistance technology, but exact capability and seating depend on configuration.
- Towing: Toyota says the 2025 4Runner can tow up to 6,000 pounds, depending on configuration.
- Seating: The 2025 4Runner offers up to seven seats, depending on configuration; third-row seating is available on Limited.
- Fuel economy: Toyota’s 2025 product page lists up to 23 combined estimated mpg for the model line, with individual grades and drivetrains differing.
- Safety: Toyota Safety Sense 3.0 is standard on every 2025 4Runner. The suite includes pre-collision assistance with pedestrian detection, lane-departure alert with steering assist, full-speed-range dynamic radar cruise control, lane tracing assist, road-sign assist, automatic high beams and proactive driving assist.
These figures and equipment descriptions come from Toyota’s 2024 4Runner announcement and the official 2025 4Runner product page. They are manufacturer specifications, not independent test results. The all-new 2025 4Runner is built on Toyota’s TNGA-F body-on-frame truck platform, which Toyota also uses across several of its truck and SUV products. Toyota’s April 9, 2024 announcement said the 4Runner would be built at the Tahara plant in Japan and was scheduled to arrive in U.S. dealerships at the end of 2024.

Which 2025 Toyota 4Runner trim is the best value?
There is no single best-value 2025 Toyota 4Runner because the right value depends on whether the buyer prioritizes the lowest price, trail capability, hybrid output, cabin comfort or specialized equipment.
| Buyer priority | Best starting point | Launch price | Why it fits |
|---|---|---|---|
| Lowest purchase price | 4×2 SR5 | $42,220 | Cheapest 2025 4Runner configuration |
| Lowest-cost 4×4 | 4×4 SR5 | $44,220 | Adds four-wheel drive without moving to a higher grade |
| Regular trail use | 4×4 TRD Off-Road | $50,640 | Includes Multi-Terrain Select, Crawl Control, all-terrain tires and a locking rear differential |
| Trail use plus hybrid output | TRD Off-Road i-FORCE MAX | $53,440 | Adds the 326-horsepower, 465-lb.-ft. hybrid powertrain |
| Trail hardware plus comfort | TRD Off-Road Premium | $56,420 gasoline; $59,220 hybrid | Adds premium seating and multimedia equipment to the off-road grade |
| Premium road-focused equipment | Limited or Platinum | $56,850–$64,310 | Prioritizes comfort, technology and available or standard full-time 4WD hardware |
| Factory overlanding setup | Trailhunter | $68,350 | Includes roof-rack hardware, 33-inch tires, protection and campsite-oriented equipment |
| Baja-inspired off-road setup | TRD Pro | $68,350 | Includes FOX internal-bypass shocks, a stabilizer disconnect and 33-inch tires |
For many trail-oriented buyers, the gasoline 4×4 TRD Off-Road is the value benchmark because it supplies the key factory trail hardware at a lower launch price than the hybrid, Premium, Trailhunter and TRD Pro versions. Buyers who want the hybrid’s additional output can compare the $53,440 TRD Off-Road i-FORCE MAX directly with the $50,640 gasoline model; the listed launch-price difference is $2,800.
SR5 is the value choice for buyers who mainly need an SUV and do not need 4WD or specialized trail equipment. TRD Off-Road Premium is the more balanced choice for buyers who want trail capability and a more comfortable daily-use cabin. Trailhunter and TRD Pro are difficult to justify on price alone because their value comes from specialized factory hardware that would otherwise require an aftermarket build.
What extra costs and accessories should 4Runner buyers consider?
The launch prices do not include taxes, registration, financing, dealer fees, options, accessories or market adjustments. A buyer comparing two grades should also compare the cost of adding equivalent equipment later, especially tires, suspension parts, underbody protection, roof hardware and cargo protection.
Toyota’s 4Runner accessory catalog lists all-weather floor liners and cargo-protection products. 2025 Toyota 4Runner floor liners are a sensible ownership add-on for buyers who expect mud, snow, sand, pets or camping gear, but fitment must be checked against the exact trim, seating layout and five-seat versus seven-seat configuration.
Cargo mats and cargo liners are also relevant because the rear seats fold for carrying larger loads. Toyota’s catalog and genuine-parts listings should be checked for the specific cargo-floor configuration, while aftermarket products should be compared separately for coverage, retention and fit. No current marketplace inventory, seller quality or affiliate availability is assumed here.

Choose Trailhunter for factory overlanding equipment and choose TRD Pro for Baja-inspired performance off-road hardware; the two grades are not interchangeable even though both launch at $68,350 and use the i-FORCE MAX hybrid powertrain.
| Decision factor | Trailhunter | TRD Pro |
|---|---|---|
| Primary purpose | Overlanding and extended outdoor travel | Baja-inspired performance off-roading |
| Powertrain | 4×4 i-FORCE MAX hybrid | 4×4 i-FORCE MAX hybrid |
| Launch price including destination | $68,350 | $68,350 |
| Suspension emphasis | Old Man Emu shocks | FOX 2.5-inch internal-bypass shocks |
| Tire and protection equipment | 33-inch Toyo Open Country all-terrain tires, rock rails and high-strength steel skid plates | 33-inch Toyo all-terrain tires and off-road suspension hardware |
| Adventure equipment | ARB roof-rack hardware, auxiliary switches and a 2,400-watt AC inverter | Stabilizer Disconnect Mechanism and electronic locking rear differential |
Trailhunter is the more coherent choice for carrying roof-mounted equipment, protecting the vehicle and supporting a campsite. TRD Pro is the more coherent choice for buyers who prioritize suspension behavior and factory performance hardware on demanding trails. The price is identical, so the decision should follow the intended use rather than the badge.
What should you check before buying a 2025 4Runner?
- Confirm the exact configuration: Ask whether the quoted vehicle is 4×2 or 4×4 and whether the vehicle has the gasoline i-FORCE or hybrid i-FORCE MAX powertrain.
- Separate MSRP from the out-the-door price: Add local taxes, registration, dealer charges, options, accessories, financing costs and any market adjustment to the launch-price reference.
- Verify seating and cargo layout: Confirm whether the vehicle has five or seven seats before ordering floor liners, cargo trays or cargo liners.
- Match capability to use: Select TRD Off-Road for core trail hardware, Trailhunter for factory overlanding equipment and TRD Pro for Baja-inspired performance hardware.
- Check the window sticker and documentation: Towing capacity, equipment, fuel-economy estimates and available seating can vary by configuration.
- Do not assume a newer Toyota page is a 2025 price sheet: Toyota’s consumer pages may roll forward to later model years, so use the dated launch table when comparing the 2025 lineup.
The Bottom Line
The cheapest 2025 Toyota 4Runner is the $42,220 4×2 SR5, while the most expensive launch configurations are the $68,350 4×4 Trailhunter i-FORCE MAX and TRD Pro i-FORCE MAX. Choose SR5 for price, TRD Off-Road for trail value, Trailhunter for overlanding and TRD Pro for performance-focused off-roading.
