Police confirmed the damage was caused by gunfire; the reports did not establish how many shots were fired or how many windows were damaged.
What happened at the Salem Tesla dealership?
Officers responded just before 5 a.m. on February 19 to the dealership at 2755 Mission St. SE, KATU reported. Salem Reporter described the location as the dealership in south Salem. KATU’s report said police confirmed that gunfire caused the window damage. Salem Reporter’s account also described gunshots fired into the dealership’s windows.
The local reports do not give a verified count of shots fired or windows damaged.
What was known about the investigation?
KATU reported on February 19, with an update on February 20, that Salem Police’s investigation was ongoing and no arrests had been made as of that report. KATU said the FBI was assisting Salem Police with this case and an earlier incident at the dealership. That describes the status reported at the time; the reviewed local coverage does not establish a later arrest, charge, or final investigative outcome.

Investigators had not publicly established a political motive in the reviewed reports. Salem Reporter said authorities had not indicated whether they suspected one. The fact that Tesla CEO Elon Musk is controversial does not establish a motive for this shooting.
How this differs from the earlier dealership incident
A separate incident involving arson or vandalism occurred at the same dealership on January 20, 2025, according to both local reports. KATU said that case remained under investigation in its coverage. The reports do not establish that the January incident and the February gunfire were connected or shared a motive.

What a local Tesla owner said
KATU quoted local Tesla owner Sharon Monsivais, who said she bought her car despite disagreeing with Musk and objecting to his actions. She criticized shooting at a dealership, saying: “I think it’s sending the wrong message to shoot up a dealership that has nothing to do with presumably whatever their feelings are.” Her comment is a resident’s opinion, not an investigative finding.
