The company said the funding would support its existing order book, new research and development, and its product programmes, including work by Gordon Murray Special Vehicles. The public announcement did not disclose the investment’s ownership percentage, instrument or valuation.
Who invested in Gordon Murray Automotive?
The named investor was Halo Cars Group, founded and led by managing partners Tarik Ouass and JR Rahn, according to GMA’s announcement. Both men joined GMA’s board. The $120 million figure is the announced strategic investment; it should not be read as a purchase price for the company or as a disclosed equity stake.

Ouass is the reason the deal has been described as an investment by a “superfan.” GMA said he was its first customer, the first person to order a T.50, and had acquired every motorcar the company had created. That makes the description understandable shorthand for an unusually committed customer-investor relationship, rather than a formal role or transaction term.

What will the $120 million support?
GMA said the investment would help deliver its existing vehicle order book, advance Special Vehicles programmes and fund new research and development. It did not publish a breakdown of how the money would be allocated.

- Special Vehicles: GMA described the division as focused on ultra-rare, bespoke interpretations of Gordon Murray designs, and identified the S1 LM as its first creation.
- Research and development: The company said the funding would support new R&D programmes but did not specify projects, budgets or timelines.
At announcement, GMA said production activity in 2026 would continue for the T.50s Niki Lauda, T.33 range and Special Vehicles’ Le Mans GTR. This was the company’s plan at the time, not confirmation that the cars were subsequently delivered.
What changed in GMA’s leadership?
Professor Gordon Murray remained Chairman and Chief Designer. Darren Jukes, previously the company’s CFO, was appointed Interim CEO. Halo Cars Group managing partners Ouass and Rahn joined the board, adding the investor representatives to GMA’s governance while Murray retained his stated leadership roles.

Why the investors say scarcity matters
Ouass and Rahn described the investment as a bet on exclusivity rather than expansion for its own sake. In GMA’s release, the Halo Cars Group managing partners said: “This is not an investment in scale, but in further scarcity. Our investment mandate is the complete opposite of a conventional growth investment in automotive. We believe that further limiting allocations of an already very exclusive production is what allows Gordon Murray’s bespoke craftsmanship and engineering artistry to endure for generations.”

This is the investors’ stated philosophy. The announcement did not say that production allocations had actually been cut. Road & Track also reproduced the statement and offered its interpretation of the investors’ interest in GMA’s limited-production cars, but that coverage does not add disclosed transaction terms: Road & Track’s report.

GMA’s release, datelined Surrey, was published on 17 December 2025. On 23 December, transaction adviser Mills & Reeve confirmed it had advised GMA and its shareholders on the investment: Mills & Reeve’s notice. That corroborates the transaction but does not supply missing financial terms.

The announcement followed the November 2025 RM Sotheby’s Las Vegas sale of the S1 LM for $20.63 million. GMA called that the highest non-charity auction price ever achieved for a new car; that record characterization is the company’s claim in its release. The auction result is context, not evidence of the investment’s structure or a forecast of GMA’s finances.

These are company-stated figures, not a comprehensive set of independently verified financial or production metrics.
Neither GMA’s announcement nor Mills & Reeve’s notice states the ownership percentage, investment instrument or company valuation. They also do not document later delivery outcomes or whether production allocations changed. The $120 million is therefore best understood as a confirmed announced investment with stated strategic aims, not as a fully disclosed deal structure.
