Several familiar gas-powered cars were discontinued for the 2025 model year, including the Chevrolet Camaro, Ford Edge, Infiniti Q50, Jaguar E-Pace, Jaguar F-Type and Kia Forte. That does not mean every one disappeared from dealer lots on January 1: production end dates, final model years and leftover inventory are different. Lexus’s RC and RC F, for example, were scheduled to finish after the 2025 model year.
Which gas-powered cars were discontinued for 2025?
Cars.com’s January 10, 2025 roundup of vehicles discontinued for the 2025 model year named these gas-powered examples. The roundup also included electric vehicles, so it is not a gas-only list or a definitive catalog of every discontinued model.

What “discontinued for 2025” actually means
The phrase can describe different points in a model’s transition, not a single date when a car vanishes from sale.

- Production ended before 2025: Camaro production ended in January 2024. A car built earlier could still be sold later from dealer inventory.
- 2025 is the final model year: Nissan says the Kicks Play’s final U.S. model year is 2025. Lexus said the RC and RC F would end at the conclusion of that model year.
- Dealer stock may remain: New vehicles already built can remain available after production stops. Availability depends on location and changes as cars sell.
Model-year timing is not the same as the calendar year: a vehicle described as a 2025 model may have been built or sold before or during 2025. Check the manufacturer’s stated final model year and confirm the status of a specific car with a dealer.
Can you still buy one?
Possibly. A discontinued model may still be found as unsold new inventory, a used vehicle, or both. The Cars.com article reported listing counts and median prices based on listings aggregated in December 2024 and early January 2025. Those figures describe that historical snapshot, not today’s inventory or prices.

- Search the exact model and trim on dealer websites and vehicle marketplaces.
- Ask whether a listing is new, used, or a demonstrator, and confirm the vehicle identification number (VIN), model year and mileage.
- Contact the seller to verify that the car is still available and request the full price, including dealer-installed items and fees.
- For a used car, review its history and arrange an independent inspection before purchase.
A search result is not proof that a vehicle remains in stock. Confirm availability and terms directly with the seller before making a trip or deposit.
What replaces these cars?
A discontinued model does not always have a direct successor. Cars.com identified the Kia K4 as replacing the Forte and suggested the Ford Mustang or Chevrolet Corvette as alternatives for Camaro shoppers. Those are editorial suggestions, not claims that the models are equivalent. Compare seating, body style, performance, price and intended use before treating any replacement as a match.

Nissan’s Kicks Play page specifies a 1.6-liter four-cylinder engine and identifies 2025 as its final model year in the United States. That establishes its final-year status, but it does not by itself identify a successor in the cited information.

There is no single documented explanation that applies to this group. The available material establishes that manufacturers are changing lineups, but it does not prove that every model ended because of weak demand, electric-vehicle policy, regulation or one shared corporate strategy.

A congressional hearing document says GM canceled Malibu production beyond 2024 and reports Ford’s announced discontinuation of the Escape, Edge and Transit internal-combustion vehicles; its relevant footnotes cite secondary reporting. It is useful as a committee account, not as a direct automaker statement explaining each decision. Toyota’s 2024 U.S. sales release describes its multi-pathway powertrain approach and reports strong electrified sales, but that context does not establish why another manufacturer ended a particular model.
For the Lexus RC and RC F, Lexus said the pair had sold more than 90,000 units combined across 62 countries and regions over a decade. The company’s announcement establishes the planned end of the models, not a specific reason for the decision. Toyota Motor North America reported 2,332,623 U.S. vehicle sales in 2024 and 1,006,461 electrified Toyota and Lexus vehicles sold, up 53.1% and representing 43.1% of its volume; those figures provide company-wide context, not an explanation for any discontinuation in this list.

- Check whether the article is about a calendar year or a model year.
- Look for the actual production endpoint and whether the vehicle has a final model year ahead.
