Ferrari says it has full confidence in Vasseur and his team; Lewis Hamilton and Charles Leclerc have also publicly backed him. None of the cited reports confirms a decision to replace him, a Ferrari approach to a successor, or an active succession plan.
What prompted the latest Ferrari rumours?
The latest speculation followed remarks attributed to former Red Bull chief Christian Horner describing Ferrari as a “dream” destination. Formula 1 reported that Ferrari held a media briefing on September 29, 2026, after which Chief Communication Officer Maria Conti said Ferrari had “made its choices already” and had “full confidence” in Vasseur and his team. Ferrari also said it did not intend to fuel speculation. Formula 1 reported the statement.

The reports establish public comments and speculation, not private executive deliberations. Horner’s reported remark does not show that Ferrari offered him a role or that he accepted one.
What Vasseur said about unity
At a press conference reported on October 2, 2026, Vasseur said the volume of rumours was making it difficult for Ferrari to work calmly. The press conference took place in Malaysia during the event billed as the Bahrain Grand Prix in Malaysia, as Formula 1 described it.

“When you see the noise and all the rumours in the press all the week, I think as a team we need to work in serenity. And it was absolutely not the case.”
Vasseur said the team needed stability, calm and focus rather than constant questions about his position. His appeal was about how Ferrari should work together; it was not an announcement of an organisational change. Motorsport.com reported his remarks.

Ferrari’s public position and the drivers’ support
Ferrari’s reported statement was direct: “Ferrari has made its choices already. We have full confidence in Fred Vasseur and in his team and we continue to do so,” Conti said, according to Formula 1. That is the company’s stated position at the time of the report, not a guarantee of Vasseur’s employment indefinitely.
Hamilton and Leclerc also expressed support. Hamilton said, “Fred is the guy to lead us, he’s doing a fantastic job.” Leclerc said he trusted Vasseur’s capabilities and called him “exceptional at what he does.” ESPN reported the drivers’ comments.

Hamilton said there were changes he would make at Ferrari but did not specify them. Vasseur described continuous improvement and recruitment as part of the work; those comments do not establish that a particular structural change is planned.

- Confirmed public position: Ferrari said it continued to have full confidence in Vasseur and his team.
- Confirmed comments: Vasseur asked for calm, stability and focus; Hamilton and Leclerc publicly backed him.
- Reported speculation: Horner’s reported “dream” destination remark helped renew discussion of Vasseur’s future.
- Not confirmed in the cited reporting: a Ferrari decision to replace Vasseur, an offer to Horner, or an active succession plan.
Ferrari had previously announced on July 31, 2025, that Vasseur would continue as team principal “for the coming Formula 1 seasons.” The announcement did not give a specific public end date. Ferrari’s announcement is the clearest published indication of the earlier commitment, but it does not resolve what the team may decide later.

How to read the story in its 2026 context
Formula 1 reported on September 29, 2026, that Ferrari had gone five events without a podium and stood second in the Teams’ Championship at that reporting point. Those are a snapshot of the season at that date, not a current or season-long summary. Hamilton also gave an attributed estimate of Ferrari’s average power deficit as four tenths per weekend, sometimes six tenths; that was his estimate, not an independently verified measurement in the report.
Results and performance can help explain the backdrop to scrutiny, but they do not prove that a leadership change is coming. The available public evidence is Ferrari’s stated confidence, Vasseur’s call for unity, and support from both drivers, alongside unconfirmed speculation. Because team decisions and race standings can change quickly, later statements may alter that picture.
